Fun little bar with a nice little music venue. Drove down from Indianapolis to see a favorite indie band play there. The bartender and gentleman at the front door were both super friendly. Prices were reasonable. Bathrooms were clean. Lexington's lucky to have this place. read more

An outcast bar that makes you feel like you don't belong... very rude staff that seems like they don't like people that are different

We went on a Tuesday night. Its kinda divey but the drinks and beers are cheap enough. The crowd is an electic mix of people which made it really interesting to people watch . They have a taco truck parked outside and by the looks of it the food is pretty good. There's also a small patio where you can sit and smoke if you choose. I'm guessing one of the regulars had their dog in the bar and how well behaved she was! It's truly the definition of neighborhood bar. They do have a small stage for live music as well. read more

The Green Lantern is an iconic bar in Lexington. The owners put a lot of love into this space and it shows! There's a tiki bar run daily on one side with coffees and, of course, boozy coffees. They post their schedule monthly on their Facebook page and have plenty of nights that are open if you're just looking for somewhere to grab a quick drink or get away with friends to chat. The staff is friendly and well versed at the bar. Definitely recommend! read more

The place stinks, literally. It's been how many years since Lexington became smoke free? Why does this place still smell like smoke?! Dust, smoke, whatever exactly it messed with my allergies for hours. This place has fans though, almost to the point that I felt like an outsider crashing someone's party. I just didn't get it. Maybe I came on a wrong day. The female bar tender had a bit of an attitude, one of the taps wasn't working but she made a mean Dixie moonshine concoction though... For the size, I'm not sure that it was worth $8 though. The free pool on Wednesdays and Sundays gains at least an extra star. Even though there's only one table, the Sunday that we were there it was dead, so the table was open. read more

I've tried this bar a few times and just don't feel it. I never end up staying past one drink. I know tons of people who love this bar and know it has many regulars, so there must be something to it. I just have felt not-so welcomed when I've been. Drinks are a little pricey for what you get, and both the patrons and employees don't seem happy - I saw this comment in another review for this place too. If this bar seems your style, maybe try it out if you're out downtown and don't mind a walk, but if you're passing through I'd just stay more downtown. read more

This place is amazing if you let it surprise you! I came in by accident looking for a shaded place to get a beer and boy was I in for a surprise. There's a lot of character, drinks are cheap, staff friendly, and the music can't be beat. I have been there a few times and they surprise me every time with an up-and-coming band I love. Worst bartender in the USA by a mile!!!!. If John Taffer ever set foot on this property, he would plead for them to close. Female bartender was whining and openly complaining about the amount of the tip before we even had a chance to finish our stay. We had paid once for some drinks, and had decided to have one more and give more of a tip after. The thing is I have never seen such a display by a service worker who had just received $32.00 tip on a very easy, slow night in my life. Almost comical. If she only would have waited, she would have been rewarded much more. I spent $100.00 only to get yelled at because 40 percent isn't good enough for this spoiled person. P.S. the drunk old regulars will challenge you to a fight if you protest. Really pathetic environment. read more

Great dive bar with a selection of music not always seen in a mainstream locale. The place keeps improving now that it's under new ownership. The sound system has improved and Taco Tuesdays are a fine night out. I haven't checked out their new Tiki coffee house during the day, but I'm eager to check that out soon. read more

We stayed in Lexington about a week ago while traveling. Called local cab to take us to a few places. After the first two stops we asked the driver to take us somewhere with some music since it was a Sunday, this is where he took us. There was live music, wasn't necessarily our type but we were happy with it. We paid our $5 and went to the bar area. The bartender was very nice and attentive. She made suggestions on drinks and made a new type of white russian for us with rum chatta. Yum! That was a great suggestion. She made great jagerbombs too. Beer was also good and cold. She definitely helped our night end on a good note. read more

Okay, let's be honest...they could just change their name to hipster bar if they wanted to be obvious and self evident; but that wouldn't be ironic and that's the first commandment in the hipster bible now isn't it? The interesting thing is that this used to be a nitty gritty biker bar back in the day, and you can kinda still smell that when your here. They usually have good bands play here but it's not REALLY the best venue. It gets super packed and sweaty and the sound system is well, average. Don't get me wrong, it's a blast and you're sure to have some interesting conversational encounters. But just understand that it's really designed for punk shows, yes; go see a punk show here and soak up the stench. Oh, and they usually charge a cover when there's music, which I hope means that the bands are getting paid well. PBR anyone? read more

Live music tonight. Seems like a punk scene kind of bar to help clarify on the whole "hipster" accusation. Sure, they might not seem friendly to everyone but from my experience in Lexington, a lot of people don't seem like they'd be overly friendly to a lot of the people that I've seen here tonight. I will start with saying I like and enjoy this bar. I am a former UK student and Lexington resident for 6 years. I have come to the green Lantern hoping to get a good local vibe. What I got was a anger bitter bitch of a women named Erin working the bar. I asked to see what was on tap and she said "look I have all theses other people to serve" (6 people at bar total) She was beyond rude and hostile to me ordering drinking on a Thursday at 10:30 at night as if I was a dick head for waning to drink at her bar. I can't actually describe how rude and mean this women was. ERIN A larger white women with curly brown hair is the worst excuse for a bartender the world has ever seen. She is not only a shit bar bartender but a bad person and makes me feel bar for a good bar I use to like. Fire ERIN your business will be better off. read more

Great Live music bar with a minumum of pretension. Everyone is down to earth and supercool. I'v been there several times and have always had a blast. Great fun staff. Afternoons are locals and old timers in for cheap beers. Great jukebox too! read more
