Have ordered beef lo mein for years, it used to be fantastic, hasn't been worth a damn the last several times I have been there.

We decided to give this restaurant a try with a takeout order, but unfortunately the food just wasn't what we hoped for. The fried rice tasted like plain brown rice with no seasoning, and my curry chicken didn't have any curry flavor -- the texture of the chicken was very odd, almost like overcooked eggs. I pushed to side & forced myself to eat the plain brown rice. My husband ordered a dish with brown sauce and also wasn't impressed. Neither of us finished our meals and ended up throwing them away. We didn't dine in, but when we went in to pick up our food, the inside of the restaurant was really beautiful -- clean and nicely decorated. Hopefully they can improve on the food, because the inside space is nice. read more

The worst Chinese food ever seriously ever! And the most expensive Chinese food in central Illinois! $38 for 2 dinner choices and 6 crab Rangoon, which I think is about $10 higher than most places. But these were bland and tasteless and not even appetizing to the eye! Had to douse with salty soy sauce to make it palatable! They don't use foil or plastic containers for takeout they use the cardboard bucket like they used for the rice and it leaked all over the bag! One of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten at. Nice large space with very friendly and good service. We got the pu pu platter for 2; in all my years I have never seen a pu pu platter for two! Everything was good; the crab Rangoon and shrimp toast stood out for me. I ordered my normal comal chicken.Our fantastic waitress allowed me to add more vegetable and make it extra spicy. This was the best/tied Kung Pow chicken I've ever had. My dad had curry beef, which he enjoyed very much. This place does not have a liquor license so they allow people to bring in their own beer/wine/liquor!. read more

My review is based on personal taste. Hot n Sour soup - fine for how they make it but it is neither hot nor sour. If you want more authentic go to Chinese buffet by McDonald's. That is the closest I have had to great hot n Sour and I've tried quite a few in area. Beef with green peppers and onion pretty good. Do love how they cut up the peppers into bite size pieces whereas most everywhere else they don't. Wish the brown sauce had flavor but that is hard to find anywhere. Supreme buffet, when they first opened (now closed) had best Hot n Sour soup and beef with peppers and it had a slighty weet brown sauce. Service was fantastic. read more

Stopped here on our drive back to St.Louis from Madison. We were surprised by how nicely decorated the interior was and how kind the service was! Micheal, our server, was extremely nice and helpful. Before the food came out, we were served with what seemed like fried crab ragoon skins. These were completely free and was very nice. We came for lunch and we got the hot and sour soup and the wonton soup. The wonton soup was extremely fresh with the wontons tasting like they were homemade! Micheal informed us that these were indeed homemade which is terrific! Both of our dishes were cooked and seasoned well with plentiful serving sizes. If you are passing thru this area, I would highly recommend you check out this hidden gem! read more

Bland and I ordered pepper shrimp. Bad service. We were the only ones there and the waitress never came by except to take our order, drop off food and drop off the check. after we got the food and i tried the eggroll, I knew immediately I needed either spicy mustard or soy or Sriracha or something. i waited and gave up. i guess you're supposed to drop your fork and walk around the restaurant until you find somebody. i found our waiter leaning on the counter by the cash register on the way out. She was making small talk with a boy that was running the cash register. nobody was checking out, it was just social hour. explained why we never saw her while eating. read more

The food is incredible for Chinese food. The service can be hit or miss but the food makes up for that.

I'm not sure what happened but the food here is terrible now. Absolutely no flavor . What was supposed to be beef was a weird consistency. 3 shrimp and some chicken in the Happy Family order , the food was slimy . It used to be great , now it's higher priced and not even edible . I won't go back there again . No wonder there was not one customer in the dining room and no other take out orders on the counter at 7:3o on a Saturday night . I ordered sesame chicken a few weeks ago for take out. It was very bland. The chicken pieces were soggy and dry. The egg roll was very good as usual. I thought this just be an off day for them. I ordered again today for takeout the same dish. It was exactly like my previous order, bland, soggy, dried out chicken. I always loved going there in the past, but I don't think I will from now on. The prices have gone up a great deal for the lunch combo and I would gladly pay more if the food if the quality was still there. They also quit giving you the crispy won tons on take out orders. I loved those. This used to be the best Chinese restaurant that I had ever dined at. I can't say that anymore. From now on Springfield or Bloomington China Star. You get more and pay less. read more

Went and picked some take out for lunch, and hadn't been here yet in Lincoln. Lunch menu comes with meal, fried rice and crab Rangoon/ egg roll. I got an "Amazing" which was very good. The egg roll was solid, not the best one I've ever ate but I'd eat it again. Fried rice was fine, didn't compliment the meal really well but I ate it. Very good value for lunch- would eat again. I had the Black Pepper chicken dinner with my gf drop soup, egg roll, and crab Rangoon. It also came with fried rice. The chicken was delicious and had copious amounts of black pepper which I liked. If you're not a big pepper fan do not order this dish. The egg drop soup was good, but the rest I could've done without. I always used to go to First Wok when I was in Lincoln. I loved the food there, and it was easy for me to find vegetarian/vegan options. When they closed due to the owner's retirement a few months ago, I was incredibly sad. I missed the food, and there just wasn't anything to compare in Lincoln. While in town this past week, I was delighted to discover that the chef from First Wok decided to open his own restaurant! Just a few blocks away on Woodlawn, Chi's opened on March 18, 2015. It is the same staff as First Wok, so the food is almost exactly the same. They were so friendly and eager to make whatever we wanted. Plus, open only two days, it was already packed when I went! The word is out, and people are so excited to have good Chinese in town again. This place is the fanciest restaurant I've found in Lincoln (though would be considered not fancy in Chicago). The food is fantastic. My meat eater friends all loved it, too. The prices are slightly more than before, but still absolutely reasonable. I can't wait to come back! read more

I must say we were quite skeptic getting off the Highway with no town in site and only farms to view. But my whole family (that's 6 of us!) are SO glad we kept going. Hands down the best Mongolian Beef we've ever had. The beef was so tender and flavorful. My husband, who ordered it is still talking about it. The tangerine chicken was delicious. I ordered the Moo Goo Gia Pan and it was by far the best I have ever had. I had almost given up hope of finding a flavorful Moo Goo again, especially since they don't serve it on the west coast. Chi you certainly know what you're doing! All our courses were flavorful Service was fast, friendly and our waiter Michael was top notch. They did a super job with decorating the inside with modern appeal. If I was going to make any suggestion, it would be to have brown rice as an option. But that's just a personal preference. I've been eating this Chinese food since I was a little kid, but still this is legit and I'm not being bias. Chi's is for real the best Chinese food I've ever had and I've gotten Chinese food all over the US, both coasts and yet I've never found a place better. Yeah the decor and ambience isn't PF Chang's or some high class place, but its killer food and every dish is on point every time. Same thing on second visit...food is just not HOT when it arrives at the table. I dont know how that could be since it arrives pretty quickly. Look at the pictures...no steam coming from any of the plates...luke warm. The hot and sour soup is very spicy which I like but IS NOT sour enough...needs vinegar. The heat comes from red chili paste rather than white pepper so its different than traditional soup and not quite right. Tried the chicken wings but they were more like pigeon wings they were so small. This is a nice place and we will go back but HOPE they address these issues and quick! Chips and sauce were left out on every single table, there were flies, some tables were not cleaned off, service was very slow, food was not hot for being freshly cooked.. We'd eaten at the former First Wok several times and were excited that Chi was going to carry on serving the same great food. I was a huge fan of the former FW's hot and sour soup. Chi's? Meh, not so much. It's really bland with little "hot" or "sour" going on. I also ordered the beef with garlic sauce. It was pretty decent. The only problem I had with it was the fact that well over half the order was comprised of green peppers. Green peppers aren't my thing, so I wasn't so enthused about it. Luckily, the chunks were huge enough that they were easy to pick out, I just wasn't left with much after that, though. My hubs ordered their chicken with curry sauce and he really liked it. He's a sucker for anything curry, though, so take his opinion with a grain of salt. Will we go back? Sure. We're willing to try a few more dishes to see if our first visit was just a fluke. read more

The outside is a bit unappealing and took a moment to locate the entrance, but beyond that point, the experience was splendid. The service was nice, polite and even refilled my water after I was finished eating. The tea, wontons and soup were a nice 'appetizer' before my meal. Personally, I thought the lunch portion sizes were perfect. All my food was steaming hot and I had one of the best egg rolls ever. A friend of mine has mention to try this place the next time we were in Lincoln. Well, my husband and I decided to go for lunch today. The outside of the building does take away from it as it's in a supermarket plaza. Once you walk in, however, it's very sleek and cozy, with white linens and black tables. We were greeted and seated quickly. Upon arrival to our table, we notice a bowl of crispy wonton chips and homemade sweet and sour dipping sauce which was nice, and very tasty. Then water and complimentary hot tea was provided. The tea was very flavorful and complimented the meal. We ordered steamed dumplings for an appetizer and had a hard time sharing as we both wanted to take the whole dish. You could definitely tell these were made fresh. My husband had the Sesame chicken and I tried the Bon Bon shrimp which was delicious. I was also quite impressed with Sesame chicken I tasted. Normally when you get Sesame chicken, the sauce is so sickenly sweet that it ruins the taste. This chicken was lightly breaded, crispy and the sauce was warm and flavorful. The egg rolls they serve also were not greasy as they normally can be. Overall, a wonderful experience! We will definitely be back! read more
