The dining room was nice and cool on a hot day and seems clean. Since we came here at 4pm-ish, there were not a lot of diner, so everything we ordered came out quick and steaming hot. Of all the foods, we enjoyed the black bean noodles the most. It has the right amount of savory flavors and sauce has perfect thickness that coated the noodles well. Go here pretty often and would consider it the best place for Korean fried chicken! They have a variety of seating options which also comes with curtains that you can close if you want more privacy, which I thought was pretty cool. My party ordered the honey garlic chicken and soy garlic chicken that came with Jjajangmyeon (noodles in blackbean sauce) and we also ordered the bibimbap. The chicken servings were also pretty good! Thought it was a lot that was given. in terms of service, water was refilled without asking and napkins were given without asking either. I've always known this place to be called Song Cook's, but I guess over the years, they started focusing on korean fried chicken, hence the Chi-Mac name. My sister and I dropped by for lunch after a long morning of thrifting nearby. I quite like the seating here since it's a private booth with curtains, and there's a call bell for different options, which makes it very convenient. I went for the beef and tofu kimchi stew while my sister got a combo of half jajang noodles and honey garlic fried chicken. As soon as we placed the order, the waiter asked us if we were okay with a 15% service charge. I have heard of service charges for larger groups, but we were a group of 2, so we were quite taken aback. Other groups nearby were also confused at this service fee. I was fully expecting the service fee to automatically be on the receipt, but it is technically treated as a tip when you pay on the card machine. The staff member will direct you to select the 15% tip option. I would have tipped anyways, but to be forced before even receiving the service left a sour taste in my mouth. In terms of the food, the portion was quite small for the price. This is something I've noticed for a lot of restaurants, not only just this one. The prices are going up while portions are getting smaller (thank you very much inflation). My kimchi stew was quite good, but I felt like there could have been more meat. Large restaurant with private dining areas. Went on a weekend for a late lunch so it wasn't very busy. First time trying the place based off of a suggestion. It's KFC made the Korean way. Ordered half a portion of spicy candy chicken, which was flavourful compared with my dining companion's choices and came with tasty black bean noodles. Also ordered fries, which were yummy the second time around. Fries weren't served hot initially and we had a server's hand placed on them to check temperature so they were prepared again. We ordered delivery from here - I was craving bibimbap but wanted to try a new Korean place, and my boyfriend... well, he loves his fried chicken! And so, we settled on Chi-Mac. The delivery fee is by no means inexpensive from UberEats ($4!!) but the fried chicken was quite worth it. Chi-Mac's fried chicken is double fried and comes coated in an interesting coating, which reminded me of cornflakes. We got the original, and at $23, it was a sizeable portion (maybe half a chicken, deboned). It's marinated in five spice powder so has a light kick - I only wish it were slightly more flavourful. Some breading was soggy by the time it arrived, but still very crispy on the whole. My bibimbap was okay - what can you expect from a fried chicken place? It was quite lukewarm (everything was) but the egg was beautifully crispy and runny. We also got the mandu / dumplings - at $13, it was fairly overpriced. This place is very welcoming when you enter as the decor is on point. There's lots of booth for small to large groups. One of the things I'll definitely come and check out is the booth area/almost like a private room for large groups. This type of food is definitely catered to a large group. Because you have the ability to order multiple dishes and share amongst your group. Prices are high but pretty standard for a place like this as it is meant to be for large groups. The chicken dishes were great, the gyoza and the kalbi was amazing but the spring rolls were cold on the inside. Been on a hunt for Korean fried chicken lately and decided to stop by Chi-Mac. Unfortunately, after trying other places, Chi-Mac did not come out on top for me. Their fried chicken was too fried and their was not enough sauce to coat the chicken in my opinion, but if sauce isn't your thing then maybe you'll prefer this (which my boyfriend did). Their seafood pancake was definitely lacklustre, it didn't have a lot of flavour or any seafood in it at all but their tofu stew was very good and flavourful! First thing, this place is called Song Cook's on Google so it's hard to find this name online. It's almost entirely halal, which is awesome for visiting families who want to eat Korean and are dietary restricted. Not all their items are consistent in quality, but they're all prepared well. My personal favorite was their spicy crispy fried chicken. I could have had 3 orders of just that and left happy. I wasn't sure if I could have done more spice so I opted for the egg broth and dumplings but it wasn't something I'd order again when I'm at a restaurant. A party member ordered the beef rib soup which was delicious. The japchae was ok. There weren't a lot of side dishes, but the servers were quick to replace them and refill your water. A little store front in a little strip mall but once you go in it's actually quite spacious. Went on a Tuesday so it wasn't too busy. I don't know if the service button on the table actually works because after we pressed it, we still saw the server standing there staring into blank space so we ended up waving him down anyway. Prices are normal/comparable to Yonge and finch (I'm not familiar with this area at all). I like that all their chicken comes boneless by default instead of paying extra like at The Fry to get boneless. Also liked the fact that it's Asahi on tap instead of Sapporo. The chicken was pretty tender and had a good batter that wasn't too thick, so I would say the food is pretty good quality. I was sad to hear that Song Cook was gone! :( but when we got there, their sign was just moved above Chi-mac's so I was like, okay well that's good! I enjoyed eating at Song Cook's after church at times. We actually came here to try the KFC which I originally thought it was the same Chimac one I went to in Markham but it's.. not lol. Interior of the place didn't change, looks exactly the same as before so it was spacious. We got a large booth (5 people). KFC prices weren't that bad so we ordered a lotttt more food. If you look at the menu, they have pictures and clearly the photos have bones in them but there was a disclaimer at the very top that states it was ALL boneless. Keep in mind there. I'm a fan of just boneless so it was good for me. Not great for the ones in my party that wanted bone-in. Whatever, they dealt with it. We ordered a green onion fried chicken, half/half, bbq. Green onion was probably the best (sauce was given on the side which I poured in myself after). Half half was just okay. BBQ was a turn off for me. The bbq smell was SO heavy - just wasn't a fan, neither the ppl in my party. We also ordered a side of cheese corn - not similar to the one's i'm used to eating at k-pocha or the fry. Not that good here. Lastly ordered rice cakes but they didn't have an option to add cheese. At the other korean places we've been to, they have the option so we asked anyways cuz we wanted cheese. Location/Service This place is along Dundas, within a series of plazas. The sign is not too big, so a little tricky to spot. Plenty of parking around the plaza - though it might get busy during peak hours. From the entrance, the restaurant looks small - but it expands pretty big once you're inside. Definitely can accommodate large groups (we had a group of 12). It had private rooms and public open space where available. Atmosphere was a little weird - they had a huge speaker by the entrance blasting music outside, but it doesn't travel into the restaurant - so it becomes quiet at certain spots, which is a little awkward. In terms of service, I will cover in the end. Food Because we had a huge group, we order multiple items and share - which include the Korean Fried Chicken, seafood pancake, army soup. All of them were pretty decent - like what you expect at other Korean restaurants. I like the chicken, the sauce was pretty good - regardless or spicy or non-spicy. Portion size was big as well - and was enough for all of us to share and be full. The banchan (appetizers) were also nice as well - everything complimented well for a hearty typical Korean meal. Back to the service, I feel this can be trained a bit more with their staff. First of all, when the dishes come, the waiter didn't even try to adjust some plating around to put it in the centre or ask where to place it so it can be shared. He just place it by the corner and left. The food wasn't even extremely hot or too difficult to handle or anything - but all of us were just a little puzzled. We even instructed him next time where to put it, but obviously he didn't even bother to listen or pay attention. We also came here to celebrate a birthday with a surprise cake. We told the staff ahead of time, gave them the cake and will let them know when we want to serve it. But the waitress had to blur it out in front of everyone and spoil the surprise - she bluntly just ask 'shall we serve the cake'? I mean, we weren't ready to get the cake out yet - way to kill the mood. And then she brings the cake, with no knife/plates/fork to supplement us eating the cake afterwards. As a restaurant, I mean isn't this a little bit of basic info that the staff should know how to action or at least be trained on it? Why give us a cake if we have nothing to eat it with? We had to ask multiple times to get what we wanted - and all that could've been avoided if she bought everything at the beginning. Overall the experience was a little so-so. I mean coming for a quick meal is totally fine and nice if you're around the area. But for celebrations, I think that needs to be worked upon. read more

Although the spring rolls wrapped in seaweed with jap chae were good, they're from the freezer aisle at your Asian grocery store. Coleslaw banchan was very mediocre. Nothing worth noting. We got the following items: -Pork bone soup (I believe $11-$12) -Korean Fried Chicken (mixed of original & special sauce) Small portion cost $15.99 FYI: unlike The Fry & Sikgaek, Chi-mac in fact serves their KFC boneless which I surprisingly prefer now. Love the batter and the crispiness of it, too! Pork bone soup tastes the same compared to other Korean restaurant, but I find that they put more meat in it. The reason why they lost a point from me was because I was expecting more hot stone bowl dishes. In here, they only have the traditional bibimbap. As well, banchans are now provided once only with additional refills requiring additional costs for each. In terms of service, it was jarring to be asked for a minimum of 10-15% tip right off the bat before even being served. Throughout the meal I would say the service was average, they were polite but it was more or less the minimum expected. Ambiance was average. Enjoyed the private spaces with curtain divisions but there was a bit of yelling from the staff at one point. I had a craving for Korean Food and was super impressed with their JiJangMyeon (black bean noodles), great filling portion and exactly the authentic flavours I was looking for! My boyfriend had the Dolsot Bibimbap (with ground beef) the portion size for the beef was not was he expecting but he still enjoyed the variety of fresh veg. Really great! I got combo 4C - which is the Jajangmeon and Soy Garlic Fried Chicken combo and my partner ordered the tofu Bibimbap. We ordered takeout at the restaurant and waited about 10 mins for our food. The very nice lady brought the food out to our car, which was a very appreciated touch +1. The fried chicken was crispy and delicious. The soy garlic chicken had pieces of fried garlic on it which was an awesome component of the dish. Jajangmeon was great. The tofu bibimbap was also very good, although in an aluminum foil container, you miss out on the crispy bottom stone bowl experience. Went here on a Sunday afternoon. There weren't many customers or staff. There seemed to be only one server so we were mindful not to get too fussy about the wait to get served. We ordered the half original and seasoned chicken, jjajangymeon (black beans noodles), and chicken fried rice. The food was mediocre, I've had better Korean fried chicken in Mississauga. The best dish to me was the chicken fried rice, which was surprising. Our server seemed very rushed throughout the whole meal and when I asked for extra banchan (sides), he said he won't give us extra until we finished our first plate. Our first plate of sides was almost finished, hence why I was asking for more? Overall, the food is decent and service is okay. Definitely think it's a bit over-hyped and overpriced. The BBQ was a little too sweet and gochujangy for me, it would be better with some garlic too imo. A small order of chicken would be enough for 2 i feel. Takoyaki was decent with good portion of octopus on the inside. What stood out for me was the banchan. I finished both the coleslaw and the pickled radish. Was so hungry I didn't get any photos lol! I ordered a large Green mountain and the fried calamari to go. Service was very friendly and I saw many uber/skip the dishes orders, many customers ordering during this covid season and I understand why. Although the Calamari was a let down (was just straight up batter, very crispy, but just batter), the "Green Mountain" fried chicken was delicious. Loved that all the KFC is boneless, allows you to get your money's worth. The fried chicken was super crispy, the green onions and sauce are the star of the meal. Also came with sides like Kimchi, Pickled Radish and Daikon. Chicken came with the toppings on the side so it wouldn't be soggy but putting it together allows control over how much sauce or onions you want. Reading other reviews and from past experiences with KFC, we wanted some thing that was not too sweet and soggy, super glad eith our decision. Trust the reviews when the portions are HUGE. We were worried the small wouldn't fill us and opted for the Large, we had over half left over. Large defiantly serves at least 4+ people, great for a group.
