Our second time coming to Sikgaek. Coming in, this place was cozy and offered privacy which was nice. We were greeted warmly by the servers. We got their donkatsu spicy buldak alfredo omurice, the boneless Joseph chicken and dakjeon. The boneless Joseph chicken (4/5) was crunchy, cheesy and a slightly sweet nutty flavour. The donkatsu spicy buldak alfredo omurice (4/5) was delicious. The spicy buldak rice was balanced well with the creaminess of the alfredo sauce. The egg was cooked well and the donkatsu was crispy and tender. I wish there was more of the omelette because towards the end we were left with a lot more rice and no omelette. The dakjeon (3.5/5) was crispy on the outside with a slight chewiness on the inside. This savoury pancake had cubed chicken throughout but we found the chicken itself was rather dry. The green onion was a good addition to this dish as it enhances the flavour. The dipping sauce had a mixture of saltiness from the soy sauce, a hint of sweetness and some tanginess as well. The side dishes consisted of pickled cabbage, pickled radishes and kimchi. The kimchi was a bit salty for my liking. Although it was crunchy, I was hoping it would be more tangy. read more

Okay so parking in this tiny plaza is extremely limited which started the experience shaky. There s parking to the rear of the plaza but it also fills up. The individual rooms are fun but are even louder than sitting outside n the main dining area so keep that in mind. servers were good and attentive and there are bells in the rooms to get their attention as needed. The menu is quite diverse, so something for everyone. Banchan was okay. Only 3 served, traditional kimchi, picked daikon and pickled white cabbage. We ordered a pancake which was on the greasy aide but delicious and maybe a a little undergone in the middle. Their omirice was new to me and looked very pretty. house brown sauce was super sweet but grew on me. Fried rice was ok and the egg cover was super pretty. Not sure if the price tagr matched the value here. The Beef Jap Chae was delicious, not a lot of noodles for $20 but a ton of veggies for sure. Very flavourful. The fish cake souo was just disappointing. Literally fishcakes and one each of a lobster fish ball squid fish ball and a shrimp ball. Yes it was only $14 but no veggies other than a sprinkling of green onion, and did not come with a bowl of rice. Really solid Korean restaurant and they stay open pretty late which is make them a great spot for late night dinner or snack! We got their soft tofu seafood soup and the boneless chicken in Joseph flavor. The Joseph flavor is like a creamy nut cheesy sauce. The chicken was crispy but the sauce was very rich and cheesy. We stopped by Sikgaek for a late dinner this past Saturday and fortunately, it wasn't too busy. Several tables are tucked inside these wall dividers which was aesthetic and unique. It also gave us more privacy. We enjoyed this dining experience! There's also call buttons for each table you can press to get a server's attention. The banchan here was pretty standard. There was kimchi (sour, but I liked it!!), radish, and something else that I forgot, haha. We were able to get some refills, too. MOOL NAENGMYEON - 17 This was OK. The broth wasn't very sweet and it was on the blander side, so I just added extra vinegar and mustard. The toppings included pickled radish, cucumber and half of a hard-boiled egg. It didn't even have a piece of meat. It's nothing special and I've definitely had better at restaurants. CHEESE PLATE FOR 2: DAKGALBI - 42 This was the perfect sharable for the four of us since we also got our own entrees. There's plenty of marinated (sweet and spicy) chicken, cabbage, onions, and some dukkbokki and fish cakes. Of course, there was a ring of shredded mozzarella cheese on the side. Make sure the cheese doesn't "overcook", otherwise there's isn't much of a satisfying cheese pull and it just becomes a block of hot cheese. This was tasty and full of flavor since you get a mix of sweet, spicy and savory. It also made my naengmyeon more enjoyable when eating it all in one bite. Overall, decent experience here. There is no doubt in my mind why this restaurant is highly rated. The available seating is limited given COVID restrictions but you feel extremely safe. Pretty much everyone gets their own enclosed booth. You ring a bell for service which on the most part was prompt and friendly. We definitely over ordered a bit because everything was sooo good. We had the classic chicken cheese plate - chicken was tender and flavourful. It went amazingly well with the Makgulri (rice wine). Worst experience ever. The food was terrible and we left everything and didn't touch anything. We got the bibimbap which was just full of rice and very little veggies. The sauce was also way too salty to eat. The marinated grilled pork belly was also way too salty, meat was way too thin and we could not eat at all. The pork bulgogi was also terrible. Because we couldn't touch the food at all, we tried to explain our discontent with the manager but he was super rude. We left very angry and hungry and everything was a waste of money. Decent option for Korean food in Mississauga! Let's start with the food... The Ginseng chicken soup (Samgyetong) deserves the hype among other Yelpers. The soup is made with a whole Cornish hen, so it's full in flavour and consistency. The sticky rice helps make it feel less soupy and more substantial. The Ginseng isn't as strong as what you'd get in Korea but I find it more suitable for North American tastebuds (such as my own). The japtang was decent. The flavor of the hot sauce / soup was spot on and the texture of the rice cake good, I'd order it again. The Ttokgook (rice cake in soup) had perfectly cooked rice cakes and milky white bone broth - left a great first impression on everyone. The Korean fried chicken in Yangyum sauce was as good as others say. The fried chicken itself is nothing to write home about but the sauce really was flavourful (I found it to have a slightly fermented aroma - like the stinky tofu mentioned in my other review, without the foulness). The ambiance and decor is above average for Korean restaurants. I really liked that half of the restaurant was allocated for private stalls / booth seating. I took away one star because as friendly as the waitresses were, they were not very efficient (perhaps understaffed?). The interior decor feels really cozy, we were seated in one of the many private dining rooms along the side which feel really nice and intimate. Despite being hidden away in there, service was friendly and attentive. We ordered the spicy chicken with cheese (cheese dakgalbi) for 2 and the honey chicken wings as a side. Didn't end up finishing the latter because the portions for the former were more than enough along with the included ban chan. Finally made it here today! My friends and I had planned to come try this place back in December but due to poor weather condition we had to cancel. My rating is 4.5. I'm rounding up. My manager seems to be in needy mode. Normally, on Fridays, a bunch of us go out for lunch. For a number of months, he has been unavailable on Fridays. So, we dropped asking him. A couple of months ago, three of us did a pot luck at work. When we met him in a lunch room, he asked us three times where we went for lunch. We were at work. He insisted that we invite him to wherever we were going. Um, okay. Anyway, he asked where we were going on Thursday. I have been so busy that I never thought about it. He invited himself and wanted Korean. Okay, cool. He mentioned one place in Mississauga. I did a search and it was permanently closed. That's why my friend and I tend to organize these lunches. We do research. I have had Sikgaek flagged for eons. I suggested that we go. Yes! I drove my intern and our manager over. I realize why we don't like having lunch with him. He has a weird control issue. "Google maps says to go down the road that we were on," he mentioned, being a backseat driver while I drove us. "I'm not using Google maps. We are taking a different route," I replied. I got us safely to this restaurant. I backed into a spot practically in front of the restaurant. I took a photo of the storefront and my manager's head was in the shot. I have never said, "Get out of my shot!" to anyone. Perhaps I had grown tired of his backseat driving. He got out of it. I have his huge head in a photo that I can use to my advantage down the road, if need be... haha! We got a quiet, intimate booth. Our server was nice. It's gorgeous inside. I love the teapots dangling from the ceiling. I also liked the cute menu artwork everywhere. When I see ramen on the menu, I am sold. We decided to go family-style with our food options. We each chose an item and decided to split the bil. I ordered the shrimp ramen with cheese. My former intern, who is a friend, told me to add cheese to my ramen. She told me to trust her. I did and do. I also wanted to try the Korean fried chicken. We all decided to do half fried and half with yangnyum sauce. My intern always likes an appetizer. We are similar in that we enjoy trying something new. He wanted a pancake. We looked and went with the veggie version, yachae jeon, which is a traditional pancake with onions, green onions, egg, and assorted veggies. I liked that we decided together and ditched consensus from our manager. I saw on the wall a graphic of strawberry soju. I asked what it tasted like. She said it's kind of like vodka, but with "low alcohol." We found out that it has 13% alcohol. I wonder what a high amount of alcohol is to this woman! My manager panicked, as he can't handle alcohol. The rest of us were fine. The strawberry soju was yummy. We had it in tiny shot glasses. I liked the strawberry flavour and it wasn't strong. The food came out fast. Our shrimp cheese ramen came out first. It was so good. That spicy broth is amazing! The cheese is yummy with the ramen. I loved the full shrimp. It comes with the shell and head on, so there's a bit of effort required to eat it. It was perfectly cooked. We got the yachae jeon pancake next. I did the honours of using the scissors to cut it into six wedges. Yummy! My manager does not like green onions. Give me green onions and onions with some crispy parts, and I am hooked. It was bland if you eat it alone. It came with this kicked-up sauce, which was great. My intern and I actually dipped the pancake into the ramen broth. So good! We got a free dish. I appreciated that gesture. It was steamed egg with green onions on top. Yummy! I used to not love steamed egg. However, with the dipping sauce that we had and the soju, it was delicious! The fried chicken came last. It was my first time having Korean fried chicken. It won't be the last. Both the fried and yangnyum chicken was juicy and crispy where it should be. The fried tends to be bland compared to the flavourful, saucy yangnyum. The latter had a bit of smoky flavour and a slight hint of spicy heat. We all liked it more, although the fried chicken is great with the spicy sauce that we got with our pancake. Everything is! I originally wanted to try the hot pot. However, my manager didn't want all of us to dip into the same pot. Fair enough. I don't want what he may have, either. I will need to come here without him to give the hot pot a try. I also felt like I needed my own bowl of cheese ramen with shrimp. I felt incomplete and wanted more of that yummy goodness. The reason for an almost perfect rating? It's pricy. Price: 2/5 I think that it is kinda pricey for the amount of food. Or maybe it's the inflation kicking in. Flavour of food: I asked the server a non-spicy soup and she recommended the Tookbaegi Bulgogi l, I would rate the taste as a 3/5 as I prefer more sour taste for soups. Later on in the evening, they filled up the two empty sections. Was seated in one of the private rooms which was nicely decorated. Ordered the hot stone bulgogi bowl which was not that tasty, lacked meat and had a lot of onions. The rice was not crisp to the bowl $13. I wouldn't order again. Also ordered the pedal, fried chicken with onions. Tasted faintly of sesame oil. The skin was crisp. Small half portion for $20 and while for $30. Not a good deal, you can't mix and match the flavours. I would not recommend. You can get better and cheaper elsewhere. However, I highly recommend the pork bone soup with glass noodles and spicy broth. Broth was a bit thyicker than water, which I like!!! It comes with rice and costs only $20. I have fond memories for Sikgaek, as I had a very pleasant experience at here before. Unfortunately, this time simply did not compare. The food was decent, but the service was pretty poor. I absolutely love their banchan, particularly their pickled radishes and seasoned bean sprouts. In the past, they were very kind and perfectly fine with us requesting seconds; however, this time, the waitress had quite a bad attitude when we did so. She was also fairly slow at providing essential items (e.g., napkins). Food wise, the quality had remained mostly the same. Their fried chicken is still very crisp and not greasy by any means, and is a very generous portion. We ordered a whole fried chicken with the spicy sauce on the side, and the chicken was very juicy with a crisp batter. I also tried their soybean soup, which arrived with a delicious fragrant smell of seafood. There were many tiny pieces of octopus in the broth, but I was sad to see only one shrimp in the soup. My dad got the gamjatang or pork bone soup, and his main complaint was that there were many bones, but not much meat at all. We may still return, but I'm beginning to prefer Song Cooks, as it has more variety and service appears to be more consistent there. read more

Husband and I wanted to try out a new Korean place in Toronto, and it was a success! The moment you walk in, you see a case on the right that displays old Korean toys, books, and snacks. The inside of this place is like an old Korean jumak with separate "closed" booth seating and open table seating options. We ordered dontaksu and japtang ddukbokki. The donkatsu was very tender but crispy on the outside. The japtang ddukbokki comes in a pot with a small burner so it can boil as you eat. The japtang ddukbokki was good, but honestly it was a bit overpriced for what the portion and the ddukbokki ingredients. It was still good! Another down side(?) of this place is the lack of banchan. They only gave us three banchan (kimchi, bean sprouts, and pickled cabbage). :( Other than that, the place was satisfactory with great service and good Korean food. Had a family dinner at Sikgaek. This was my first time. The restaurant inside has a lot of cute decor and menu. Each table is inside a little private room. Orders can be made by pressing a button. Grilled Galbi was dry and wayyy over cooked..The only reason I keep coming back is because their kimchi is to die for! Whenever I'm craving kimchi I would purposely drive 40 minutes to come here and also buy some to take home with me. Sikgaek makes kimchi fresh and sell it to consumers! Staff here are also very nice. The washroom facility is kept nice and clean. It's definitely worth the mission for Kimchi lovers, just don't expect food to be great. read more

If you're looking for a good and authentic Korean place, Sikgaek is the best option. The foods and service never fails me once. I've tried different foods every time I come and they were always good. Today, I ordered Korean Pancake, Pork bone soup and Spicy Squid on Hot Plate. The Pancake wasn't oily like other place, the sauce was going well with the pancake. The spicy squid was pretty good, squid was fresh, the spicy sauce was mild ( bc we asked for it) wasn't oily and salty like other places. And the pork bone soup came with huge bones which have a lot of meat. The broth was absolutely tasty. You got the right amount of foods from what you paid for. A friend of my sister's recommended for the group of us to try out one of her favourite Korean places in Mississauga. We were skeptical at first since we've never heard of this place and we didn't trust her taste in food LOL. We arrived on a snowy Saturday evening for dinner and were able to snag a private booth. The booth has a doorbell so it's easy to call a server over if we needed something. We started off with the sweet and spicy fried chicken as our appetizer. As for the main, we ordered the pork bone hot pot with glass noodles, sausage, spam, enoki mushrooms, and pork bones to share with extra ramen noodles on the side. While we waited for our food to arrive we shared their complimentary little dishes of bean sprouts, kim chi, and pickled radishes. Food came out pretty quick and tasted great! Service was pleasant and attentive throughout. The only thing to note on weekends is they do not split the bill. We will definitely be returning in the near future. read more

Sikgaek is the place to be for Korean good in Suaga. It was busy and buzzing. Waited for 30 mins to be seated. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Decor is great and love the hand drawing like decor/menus on the wall throughtout the resturant. The Gam ja Tang was great the soup was thicker than most place which I liked. Came with 3 bones which is decent size. The bibimbap was decent size but was quite bland this was our least fave dish. The KFC was great got the half and half. The green onion was a hit, it was different from other places as the chicken was breaded. Gave a good crunch and crispiness I liked. The other sauce one was a little too sweet for me but it was decent. The seafood pancake was great as well and flavorable. Overall was quite surpisee by Sikgaek and would love to come back when I am in the area. read more
