We love that Chi-Town has indoor and outdoor space, something that doggie daycares we tried initially did not offer. Took my dog here once for daycare to try it out and wanted to see if she would like the place versus her other daycare that's out of our way. Right when we walked in, my dog became very anxious and scared. She never acted like this at the other place. The facility is quite small. When I picked my dog up, she couldn't stop barking in her carrier. Her voice was also very hoarse, which wasn't the case earlier that day. I have a 9 month old, highly energized Golden Retriever puppy who, I am unable to wear out especially in this frigid weather. I've been bringing him here on a regular basis for several months, now and don't have a single complaint. Nancy and all the staff are very kind and they love on my boy, like I do. I'll first say, this is only my second review on Yelp. I'm looking for dog boarding, and I just called to see if this kennel had any availability for the Christmas holiday. The lady I spoke to asked for my name and if I've been with them before, and I happily responded "No, I'm a first time applicant but have boarded my dogs before". She immediately responded "Wait, what's your name? We're getting pretty booked for that time..." without hesitation. I asked if it was because I was new, and she still went on to say "Yea, we're just getting really busy, but not booked yet." She then hung up without saying goodbye. This is the absolute best place for overnight dog boarding in Chicago!! Our dog had some serious stranger danger from frequent trips to the vets as a puppy, but Nancy and her team worked with him to make him feel comfortable and loved. He was nervous to go, but did not want to leave when we picked him up to go home! I also love that the dogs can play with one another outside all the time, so there's no need to pay silly fees for exercising on a treadmill like other dog boarding places. This place is a dog AND owner's paradise, and There is no where else I will take my dog from now on - we may even start daycare there because he loved it so much! PS. The love of my life sometimes needs to spend some time in the Dog House. Don't get me wrong, it's not punishment, it's just that we both need a little time apart. Usually it's because Kukla thinks I'm the most boring thing to ever happen to the world and if I try to kiss her one more time while she's sleeping she's going to kill me in my sleep. Or when I'm out of town. Let's be honest, if Kukla could schedule her own trips to Chi-Town Dog House she would be there a lot more often. I took a tour of the place and all the dogs seemed to be having a swell time. Kukla is always happy to see me and get back to her own home (I firmly believe this is only because I give her human food every time I eat). But she is all tuckered out and loves playing with her friends at the Dog House. The staff are always very nice and Kukes has never had anything bad to say about them. The only thing that makes me wonder about their sanity is that when I ask how she did during her stay they say "She did great! She's such a good dog!". Now, I know she is adorable beyond words, she has the best puppy breath in the world, and I can force her to waltz with me because I am literally 18 times her size; but we all know she's not a "good" dog. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt sine I assume they aren't waltzing with her. If your pup needs somewhere to hangout and have some play time, or needs a pup-hotel while you're out of town you can be assured the Dog House is the right place. read more

Working in IT means a lot of late-night work. It also means that when I have to pull an all-nighter at work, my pooch gets to spend the day, night, and following day here. I can drop my fuzzy beast off at 7am, not pick her up until 6pm the following day, and only pay for 1 night boarding. On top of that, she's so exhausted from 2 days of play with all the other dogs that she sleeps for about 18 hours straight. Seeing as though this was going to be the first time to board my dogs in Chicago, I was a little nervous. Chi-Town Dog House gave us a free consultation, or initial doggie day care visit to ensure that our spoiled pets would blend in well with the others. After an afternoon visit, our doggies were given the green light to come back for the weekend:) I must say, the staff at Chi-Town is amazing. Personally, I don't give a shit about other facilities offering "green" or "sustainable" floors, etc. Seriously, they're dogs, not Al Gore. They cannot tell the difference between recyclable floors, or cement floors. For all I care, my dogs can leave the biggest carbon paw print they wish. I judge a doggie day care, or boarding facility based on the staff. If the staff is caring, and they give my spoiled children the attention and love they desperately require, this is all that matters. Don't expect a brand spanking new facility here. Don't expect bamboo floors, and pictures of Ed Begley Jr. on the walls. What matters is that it's: SPACIOUS & CLEAN! Oh, and most importantly, the guys & gals treat your pets as if they were their own. Prices---Unbeatable. $55 overnight for 2 dogs. And, if you drop off in the morning, and pick up the next afternoon, there is no addt'l late pick up fee like most boarding facilities charge. When I need to get out of town without my pets, Chi-Town Dog House is the only place I'll take them! A+ read more

My relationship started last night, when I called Chi Town Dog House to ask some questions about boarding/daycare for the boys. Whoever I talked too on the phone was awesome and super nice and helpful. She reassured me that they were used to dog behavior, and were used to the way our two pit bulls would probably play. That made me feel about 100X better. See, I was really worried that we would take them someplace for daycare that was staffed by people that are similar to the anti pit bull people we occasionally come into contact with in the world. And then get a phonecall about how my dogs are horrible etc. The boys have only been at the facility since 9:30, so the day isnt even over, but I feel really great about this place- weather my dogs get to stay or not. They have separate groups for big and small dogs to play, which is also awesome, so you don't have to be worried about your small dog being bullied or trampled by larger dogs, or your large dog being bullied by that obnoxious shitzu? :) They have an indoor area, as well as an out door area, and a sleep/crate area. They feed the dogs in crates, which I am really into. I'll review this place again after a couple day care days here- assuming they get to come back for behaving :) As I said, I would add, or re review when we found out how the first day went with out boys. They got to stay, and they even said we could bring them back! Of course they came back a little dirty, but they were with dogs all day. Dogs are dirty. This is the first part of the day after we got them back, and they are still tired. I'm in love with this place. read more

I have been coming here since December of 2005, even before it became Chi-Town Dog House. My pooch, Cocoa -- lovingly nicknamed "Cocoa Channel" by the Chi-Town Dog House staff -- has been treated very well right from the start. I bring two dogs here now, and they are both ecstatic about it. As I get closer to the gate, both dogs are ready to jump out of the car with excitement. After a day of this excitement, which presumably involves running around both in the indoor and outdoor play areas, they come back completely exhausted. The prices are fair, and the staff is great. The owner of Chi-Town Dog House loves my dog as much as I do and I LOVE THAT. My 1- 1/2 year old puggle is genuinely excited when we pull up in the parking lot. The staff here showers her with love and the other dogs there are just great. I've brought my little girl Stella here to the play for the day, and she's also stayed overnight for up to 3 days. My favorite part about Chi-Town Dog House is that they separate the big dogs from the smaller dogs. This is so reassuring when I leave Stella here all day. It's nice knowing she won't be overpowered by a larger dog and can play freely and safely with pups her own size! Pricing here is phenomenal. I love that I don't have to break the bank in order to provide a fun and safe environment for Stella to socialize and release some of her energy! They remember all the dogs by their name too. I am biased because i have never left my pit at another doggie day care, but since chi town dog house is so great, i am lucky enough to have never had to search around! This business seems to be all about making you and your pup happy rather than raking in the bucks. They have a modest sized spot with nothing too fancy but are sure to include what's important (outside play area, inside housing, adequate staff, etc). They also temperament test dogs before they're allowed to stay which gives me ease of mind. People are so ready to point fingers at pit bulls as the "bad dogs" but since chi town dog house makes sure all pets are dog friendly, i dont have to worry about another owner blaming my dog for starting a fight. As mentioned in earlier reviews, the staff at chi town REALLY do remember your dog by name (and if they dont they sure are tricking me!) I would be willing to pay even MORE because i know my dog is in the right hands and will stay happy and safe while i'm out of town. I believe their rates are going up with the new year ($40/night) but every time I have given them a call they are great about explaining things and making sure i am comfortable putting my little one in their hands :) **Remember they are closed from 12-2pm every day which is fairly inconvenient but you cant be mad at them for trying to get the dogs to be quiet and eat some lunch for only 2 hours out of the whole day. read more

When we moved to the Roscoe Village area, we looked at several places to leave our active beagle, Darwin, for day care when we worked long hours. We decided to try Chi-town Dog House because of the proximity to our house and the resonable rates. Darwin absolutely loves it there! He runs around and plays all day, and is completely worn out and ready for a nap that evening. Whenever he hears the word "day care" he jumps around and runs for the door. I love that they have an indoor and outdoor area for the dogs, and they seem to go back and forth quite often. They even have a child's pool outside in the summer to help the dogs to cool off. The staff is friendly and seems to really love working with the dogs. They always give me an "update" at the end of the day on how Darwin was and what he did. I would highly recommend taking your dog here for day care. read more

So we decided the dog needs friends. We took her here last weekend to get a lay of the land and to get her "temperament test" We walked in, and it is clean with open spaces, but not super fancy. Which, in my mind, works. The dog is a dog and just needs love, attention, a warm place to sleep food, water and a place to run. All those needs are met here. We got a tour of the facility and it all seemed quite nice. I am glad that they close from 12-2pm every day to let the puppies rest. We had our dog meet another dog staying there and she did really well so we decided to drop her off this week. I guess when she first went it, she went in with gusto and then realized her dad was not behind her anymore and was like "uh wait. you guys. are you coming back? you are coming back, right. um. oh boy." When we picked her up, the guy behind the counter was really sweet and nice and told us all about her day. He said that one of the bigger dogs had gotten attached to her and was following her around and annoying her so he separated her to the littler dogs (she is about 25 lbs) I am glad that he saw that and changed where she was. The thing is this: I want to watch her all day run and play. She gets so funny and hops like a bunny and can run so fast. But I am glad that they don't have cameras for two reasons. 1) I would spend all my time at work watching my dog, end up fired and then not have the funds to take her there and 2) I would be like "oh man. is that big dog going to eat my dog?! ahhh. She was super excited to see us and conked out in the car immediately, even for a 5 minute drive home. I feel that she has fun and is safe and happy there. That is the most important thing for a dog, clean fun and safe spaces to just do doggie things. They offer you your first visit free (good deal!) and then I would recommend doing a package since that lowers the cost. I cant wait to take her back and do some covert spying on her when she joins the other dogs and see her having fun. read more

I can't even begin to describe the kindness and love the staff provides for my big dumb dog, and the peace I get working from home when he gets to scamper around outside with his doggy friends. My German Shepard has some health problems that require daily treatment, and I have no hesitation at all to leave him here as we head out on spring break vacation. I'm with most of the other reviews: it's my first choice for my "best friend" and has been for four years. First and foremost, my dog loves going here: he knows where he's going as soon as he sees his name tag and collar outside of the drawer where it stays. He whines until he gets here and doesn't want to leave when I pick him up. That pretty much says it all. He gets a ton of exercise. The staff is great: they know my dog by name. They accommodate my requests for boarding on long trips and holidays. They made special arrangements for my dog when he was in a cone following a procedure. They actually treat my dog like family, as hokey as that sounds. He's treated well, and it's a load off my mind when he's here. I'd recommend Chi Town Dog House in a heartbeat: they're trustworthy professionals. read more

This place is great! My Irsihdoodle loved her boarding time here. Whenever I take her someplace new I'm a little like a mom dropping her kid off at school. But the staff assured me she would quickly become used to it and that they would keep her in the staff area during "nap time" when the other dogs were kenneled so Red wouldn't be so scared. When I picked Red up two days later she didn't leave! She slept the entire night and next day! I love that they allow the dogs to play all day except for nap time and bed time. Its great!! read more

The staff here is so friendly. Every time I pull up to the "dog house" my dog Zeus knows exactly where he is. I can barely say good bye to him before he is jumping on Nancy to let him in the gate. The place is always clean and organized, and I don't even have to think twice about whether Zeus is okay. I have left him there up to 3 nights when I travel, and he always comes back home super tired. Most of the time he doesn't even want to get in the car to go home! I've been taking my dog Zoe here for the past two years. Every time we've taken her in to play during the day she's always so excited that she pulls on the leash and can't wait to get inside. When we drop her off to board for longer periods of time she always comes home well cared for. if you have special food instructions or medication instructions it's not a problem for them to take care of it. What a great place! i am not going to lie , I decided to go to Chi town dog house in the first place only because it was the cheapest that i could find and they offered a free day of day care. and i am cheap so... sold! With that be said, it is the excellent service that has kept me coming back. All of the people who work there are super friendly and they know EVERY dogs name, which is super impressive. Whenever i call to see if there is room for my dog to stay overnight they says, "oh there is always room for marcellus". Just a great place. it is resonably priced not to mention your dog will come home and sleep like a baby. even if he is a terror :) oh and the lady at the front desk wore a dog costume once for like 2 weeks. and it wasnt halloween. extra points! read more

I love this place and the staff. Super laid back, very friendly, and huge dog lovers, and that's obvious. My boyfriend takes the two big dogs over there, and one day he wanted me to come with to pick them up. Little did I know, this was a ploy to see a dog that they were fostering. A little 6 pound scruffy mutt named "Pat" Obviously, it was love at first sight. We went into action very quickly to see what it would take for us to bring this munchkin home, and it was great because you could tell the staff was so excited for us and happy he was going home with us as well. My favorite part about this place is their no-nonsense attitude. They get dogs. They get that dogs are dogs, not people. And I totally dig that. I definitely recommend this place to people I know with larger dogs, because I know if they can handle my crazy bigs, they can handle anything. read more

We love Chi-town. We have a lab with lots of energy (I mean lots) and she is always exhausted when we pick her up. It's true that they have a big room and a rather smaller yard and no toys. This is a great setup for our dog though, who is toy possessive. She runs around for hours with the other dogs and is perfectly happy. She has gotten a scratch or two here or there, but the issues have been minimal. The price is right and the people are caring. LOVE IT! UPDATE: four years later, it still rocks! read more

Best doggie day care, grooming and boarding in the city!

Our dog has been going to Chi-Town for daycare since he was a puppy. They love him like he is their own, and he loves going there every day. It's not the fanciest place around (no aromatherapy candles or spa services), but he is a dog; a dog who gets to go to daycare every day rather than sit at home alone. We like to sneak up to the fence when we pick him up in the evening to see what's going on. He's usually running around with a group of dogs, smiling and panting, having the time of his life. He typically falls asleep in the car during the seven minute ride home, which is a sign that we're getting our money's worth. When we are stuck in traffic or running late, they will drive him home and let him in the house for us for a small fee (I think it's $7). We love the staff, and we obviously trust them with a key to our home. read more

If I was a dog, I would want to stay at Chi-Town Dog House. But then I wouldn't have thumbs. It would almost be worth it. My dogs came back from boarding and slept for three days straight. I know whenever that happens to me, it means I had a pretty good time, so I'm really just applying simple logic here. The staff is friendly and laid-back, and the rates are delightfully reasonable. I've been using Chi-Town Dog House for the last 2 years as the place to board my dog when I'm out of town. I can't even begin to explain how excited my dog gets when we pull into the parking lot, she jumps out and into the building without even looking back at me. The longest I've had her boarded here was 4 days, and she was fast asleep within 10 minutes of being picked up...apparently she wore herself out playing with the other dogs! I've never had an problem with my pup getting sick after being here, they check vet records of every dog that stays there to be sure all of them are up to date with vaccines. I'll continue to use them as the place I board my pup and for the occasional day care! read more

Chi Town is the whoop! Any time we are go out of town we take Samson (Goldendoodle) and he loves it! He whines from excitement in the car when we pull into the parking lot. He wasn't always this way though.....Nancy really worked with Samson to bring him out of his shell as he was shy initially, now he's just one of the pack. The entire staff is great, they spend individual time with each dog to make them comfortable. We've tried another place for boarding but Chi Town is the best, we love that they get their own crates for a mid-day nap and sleeping at night. I brought my family dog here for 2 weeks during the weekday while I was at work. There were a lot of positive reviews on yelp but I was weary since our dog, Leo is an older dog (10 years old) and can be a bit timid with different surroundings. When I picked him up the first day he was scared and didn't venture around but it was so sweet that the staff was comforting him and trying to get him to calm down. After a few days Leo became more active and was starting to get excited about doing to doggie day care. I knew the staff had a lot to do with him being comfortable going to day care and I will definitely bring him back. read more

This is a great place! Great staff and service. I started taking my pup there last year since I adopted him from Chicago Canine Rescue next door for him to start being comfortable socializing with other dogs. Well ever since then, my dog loves this place! Once I get him out the car to drop him off he is off running to the door to get in. So that tells me a lot that he loves it. I am glad he has dogs that is his size as well (he's a Japanese Chin) there but from what I saw he was great with the big dogs as well. I have boarded him twice here when I went out of town and no complaints there. I just had to take him a good bath when i took him home. read more

We love Chi-Town!!! I have been taking my Yorkie, JD there for almost 2 years now. At first I choose Chi-Town because of the proximity to my apartment in Boystown. I have recently moved Downtown to the Loop and still make the 40 minute track (1 El ride & 1 bus ride) up to Roscoe Village to take JD there. They are SO amazing, words cannot even describe. The staff always greets me and JD by name when we arrive. I never have to worry about JD when I am traveling, which is a relief. JD is always excited to come to Chi-Town, and always comes home tired. Which is great for me because I get an extra day or two of a "tired pup." They also don't care when I call in and check on him. Another thing I love about Chi-Town is that they do not nickel and dime you. I have looked into daycare/boarding places that charge for "cuddle time!!" Come on?? Chi-Town has set prices so it is never a surprise when I come and pick JD up. I now mainly use Chi-town for overnight boarding; however JD was a frequent visitor for daycare when I was closer.The have great hours as well, they open early and have a 7:30 PM pick up so I don't have to feel rush to get over there to pick him up. This is a wonderful place for your pup, I have never once worried about JD while in there care. Don't be afraid if you have a little guy, JD is only 8lbs and he does WONDERFUL.
