Sometimes you don't know what you are going to get - you order things and sometimes half of it doesn't arrive - no word or anything from the staff. My fiancé and I have been coming to Chiba since we moved to the area. We've tried many other places around, London, Kitchener. Nothing compares to the taste. I'm more of a cucumber and avocado, miso soup and edamame, tempura. My fiancé is more of the meat teriyaki guy. We both do not eat fish. The service is amazing, the girls are always right on par and so kind. The guys in the kitchen always make great portions and everything is neat. The restaurant is always clean and a perfect setting for days and evenings. I hope one day they can change the booth seats. Super comfy just a little old looking which may scare people away. OK! We decided to go along with our daughter's suggestion of a sushi meal, just because she suggestsed it for the 2nd time. If she's eating there, it MUST be good! And we were not disappointed! I have to admit that I am now a sushi convert... and cannot believe I just said that! It was $13.00 for lunch, and you order as you go, getting more as you need it. Yes this was all you can eat! Walk into this establishment and you will definitely see about 6-8 staff members slumped over in the booths directly behind the cash register, they're usually eating their own food that they have made in the back and brought out to the front to eat in front of their dining customers. This place is not good on many levels. The staff aren't friendly and the food is unacceptable. Too much low-quality rice, low-quality and FROZEN ingredients. I came with a group of 7 friends and we all left feeling ill and had only had a few rolls and apps: not normal! They use waaaaaay too much rice because they don't want you to continue ordering more and more things if you purchased the all-you-can-eat option. They're trying to fill you up with rice so that you don't keep ordering any of the expensive ingredients like the salmon, tuna, crab, avocado, etc. A note to the staff at Chiba: Eat your own food in the staff room or in the kitchen away from the food intended for customers, we don't want to see you eating your food 2 booths away from us. I love sushi and I have to say I'm consistently disappointed with the quality of the food here. The rolls are sub-par and don't taste amazing by any means; the short ribs are usually burnt or overcooked and don't have the usual sauce you get at sushi places; the menu is fairly large but a lot of it tastes similar. It's certainly not my favourite in terms of the food, but we always get great service there and have even had a large group that the dealt with very well. Spicy tuna roll was filled with tempura crumbs, and sushi came with too high of rice to fish ratio, in both case trying to volumize the food with cheap ingredients to maximize their profit. Just had an incredibly bad experience here. In the past, we have loved Chiba. We were so excited to visit again. I do not eat sushi, but my family loves it. This has never been an issue in the past, as there are a lot of non sushi options available. So on our first order, I ordered my non sushi items. My family ordered their second order and I still had not gotten my items from the first order. Finally after 45 minutes I asked about them and was told they would be out soon. At this point my family was done eating and I did not want to wait any longer for my food. So I left hungry. We told them we were very unhappy and the server did nothing about it and was angry that I would not eat the item they brought out 50 minutes after ordering it. Came here for lunch since I was in the area for work. Opted for the AYCE. I thought the sushi and maki was pretty good. Service was fairly good, as the food came very quickly, and tasted like many other places I've been to in larger cities. The only downside is that they have two pick lists for ordering. The lunch menu is $14.99, with standard options. The dinner option (can also choose at lunch) is roughly $22.99 If I recall, and that's where you can order the specialty rolls and more delicious options. Having said that, I was content with the cheaper lunch menu even without my specialty rolls and a couple of my other favourites like cheese wontons etc. All in all, I enjoyed it and will be back again. read more

Have only been there one time and the service was not great. There were only 2 other tables at the time so you shouldn't have to hunt down a waiter for some water. I WOULD go again as I'm a fan of AYCE restaurants and their food didn't make me vomit. read more

Came here a half hour from closing on a Friday night. The sushi wasn't so fresh, but that was probably my fault for coming in so late. I think the food deserves 3 stars but I'm going to give 4 because of the exceptional service. I ordered way too much and didn't finish half of it. Summary: DO NOT EVER GO TO CHIBA! My husband and I went for sushi on a Friday night. We decided to go back and give Chiba another try as we found out our favourite sushi place in town had closed down. Chiba was not busy, and there were 2 servers on, as well as 2-3 guys making the sushi. We waited almost 30 minutes for the first of our sushi to come out, and it was disappointing to say the least. The rest of our order sat on the counter for another 30 minutes while the server continuously walked by it. The server never came back to refill drinks or to ask if we wanted another round of sushi. When we finally got fed up and decided to leave we were told that they were 'busy'... they were not... and that the best they could do is give us 10% off (which is what they give people that pay cash anyway). The service was horrific, and the food matched the service. I left hungry, and very disappointed. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone... even if you do have a sushi craving, you will be very disappointed. read more

We have eaten at Chiba in the past and over the last 5 years there has been a steady decline in the quality of the food and the service. The last two visits have sealed my decision to never eat hear again. The handrolls were nothing but rice rolls. You will find it hard to find the ingredients that you actually ordered. The Sashimi was a quarter of what you receive at and reputable Sushi restaurant. Also when you order the Sashimi you can expect them to give you have of what you order if you purchase the "All you can eat"! Seems they think they know what you can eat. I left tired of trying to get what I had requested. The wait staff is also very slow and inattentive. I was tempted to go and get my own water refills as they were almost hesitant to refill your glass, it is not like it cost them for this beverage! My advice is cross the street and get some fantastic sushi at Sushi Cove. It may not be open on Sunday or have AYCE but you will not be forced into eating at a sub-standard restaurant with poor service. read more

Chiba's is a wonderful all you-can-eat sushi restaurant. Their staff is wonderful and the food is even better. All food is cooked to order and the menu selection is fantastic. This is also a great place for kids, very welcoming. They have a tonne of other selections besides sushi, such as chicken, salmon, beef teryaki, as well ass rice, vegetables etc. Highly recommended. read more
