We had an amazing dinner at Shiki. The restaurant is tucked away and slightly hard to find (Google Maps sent us into a nearby neighborhood) but so worth it. The small, intimate space was the perfect getaway from the cold, rainy London night. We started with some hot green tea and miso soups. Both were yummy and warmed me from within. Then we each had an unagi (eel) nigiri and their fire-roasted scallops nigiri. The scallop nigiri was definitely the highlight for me. We also split the A Platter Deluxe. It came with salmon, albacore, shrimp and tuna nigiri and several rolls. It was SUPER filling and delicious. The fish all tasted so fresh and buttery (especially the nigiri). It was a ton of food but we managed to finish everything. This spot is a must if you are a true sushi fan and want a ball out sushi night. read more

Shiki is our go-to spot in London for great Sushi. The dining room leaves a little to be desired and could probably use some updating, but otherwise it's a nice spot with great food. We ordered: Sashimi, spider roll, black dragon roll, two salmon avocado hand rolls and spicey tuna hand roll. The food is always delicious and in my opinion, the best in London. I tried a new Japanese beer called: Asahi and I loved it. Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a nice, sit down sushi experience. read more

So how is it that one of London's top restaurants has ZERO photos? I was shocked! So I knew then and there, I had to send this spot some Yelp love. Like many markets out there, I decided to start a Yelp Supper Club where we enjoy a different ethnic restaurant each month. So why not choose Shiki as the first spot? Making reservations for 11 was easy. Which I was surprised because this place is much smaller than I expected. It's a bit narrow and awkward in spots but there was plenty of room for all of us. I noticed that they hadn't set up all the place settings for all the people in my group. This left some people without napkins or utensils. When we were given menu's it was kind of a mess. Drink menus, plus food menus, plus the sushi picture book, plus the different signs on the table in front of us. Not everyone got a menu so we had to pass them around as well. This was really the only downside to my night here. I felt like I had to organize things that should have been easy, or already taken care of. Once we ordered, it went up from there! The sushi platters do not come with soup or salad which was a bit of a let down for my boyfriend and I who wanted to share. Instead, I ordered the Ume Dinner. I think I may have made my boyfriend jealous because wow did I get a ton of great food for little cost ($24)! Everyone got a little pre-meal snack which consisted of lotus, edamame, and potato(?). It was drizzled in a wonderful savory sauce. I loved it! I rarely go to restaurants that offer this. The Ume Dinner consisted of sushi and tempura. In total, it included: -Miso soup (SO flavourful, it was fantastic) -A salad (their in house dressing is really yummy) -An appetizer plate (gyoza, shrimp, and a big maki roll) -The dinner (great tasting fish an the tempura was warm and not greasy at all) And ice cream! Holy Cow! I have to say, this is probably the most legit Japanese food I've ever had. They had a ton of options for those who may not like sushi as much. The sashimi I saw come out was thick and colourful. I would definitely recommend this to someone who really wants a true Japanese meal. The service is a bit slow but the food definitely makes up for it. In terms of the big group, the ONE waiter we had, had no issues churning out the plates like a pro for all 11 of us. I moved to London in 2000 and at the time I believe this was one of the few sushi places in London. I went once years ago and remember being pretty impressed. When a restaurant in London starts with an amuse bouche, its a good thing. A little edamame with some lotus root goes a long way. For the most part, I went with sushi and rolls as opposed to some of the entrees. The gyoza were quite good. I enjoyed the variety of the tempura although the batter was a little under seasoned although the soy sauce helped. The sushi rolls were great. I ordered the spicy and kamikaze tuna rolls as well as the their version of the green dragon and the ebi una-q. The highlight of the night was the aburi combo which had the salmon volcano, salmon, hamachi, and scallop. The taste, presentation and portion size were all perfect. Price wise, it was very reasonable and falls well within the acceptable limits of an a la carte sushi joint. Regarding service, it's always nice to get one of the owners taking care of things and he was quite vigilant. In the end, it's between a 4 and a 5 but let's give it a 5 for longevity, value, service and a surprise amuse bouche! read more

Was driving back to Toronto from the 401 and decided to stop by London for dinner, so I looked up yelp to find a Japanese restaurant. When we got there, they were about to close in 30 minutes and advised us that we would need to order right away. They have changed their hours! We ordered a sashimi platter, and a couple of rolls. The platter came pretty quickly, and came with 4 bowls of rice. We ordered a medium sashimi, they had the regular fish you would find in an ayce, along with some squid, hamachi and tuna. The quality was pretty fresh, but for a medium sashimi platter, was looking for more variety. For salmon, was hoping for some salmon belly, but did not get any. We tried a couple of rolls, spicy salmon and an eel roll. Didn't find them to be spectacular. We did get free small appetizer for each of us which was a nice touch. Overall, it was okay, but with the bill at $100.00 for 4 ppl, I expected a little more variety. read more

We are doing our part to support struggling local restos during these most trying of times. I was initially reluctant to order Japanese because some of it is uncooked, but I read two articles by two medical professionals who advised that it is safe as long as the food is removed from the containers immediately and the containers thrown away. We ordered the saikyo yaki, the tempura veggie appetizer, the tuna tataki and a few rolls. The first time that we ordered we received a surprising amount of food, all of which was delicious. The second time we ordered substantially the same items, but received smaller portions. No matter, it was very tasty, and travelled well. One suggestion: that they cease using styrofoam for take-out containers. Prices were quite reasonable. Looking forward to next order! read more

Driving back from Michigan to Toronto and from this Japanese restaurant as I was refueling in London so I thought of giving it a shot. First impression it was a small restaurant that was a little oddly parition. Getting service and seated took a little longer then after getting seating finding a wait staff seemed a little difficult. Food wise, ordered the Ume dinner which comes with salad, soup, app, main dish and ice cream . I found the soup and salad dressing to be on the salty side, not used tonit being so salty. The main dish and app was ok but it was strange that it did not come with wasabi on the side. Didn't bother asking for it since it was hard to find the wait staff and I was trying to rush home. Ice cream wish there were a few selections and it comes with two scoops. Price was average to a little expensive. Would I come back? Not so sure if that would be my first choice if I was looking for dinner on my route back. read more

Just few tips: 1- Do not order the dishes, like dragon sushi, volcano sushi or whatever... the rolls are smaller and the quality is different, probably they are pre-made. 2- I am a fan of traditional sushi not westernized sushi with mayo on it!!! Apparently they are good in making modern sushi but so so in traditional ones. 3- The waitress is awesome. 4- Do not expect to get what you see in the menu, the pictures seem far more tasty and generous than the actual meal. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem! If you're looking for Authentic Japanese cuisine, you've definitely come to the right place. I was very excited to come here tonight and meet a wonderful group of people in the Yelp! community. The restaurant itself is tucked away in the back of the plaza itself, but still easy to find! I came for the fresh fish and that's exactly what I got. I went over their menu, and had made a decision, but discovered their Tokyo Combo special, and immediately went with that, and the Salmon Volcano. The combo came with a salad, and their delicious house dressing. The sashimi was fresh, and full of flavour. I tried the different fishes that this plate had to offer, and my favourite is still the salmon. To end it all, I did have to get the obligatory green tea ice. My favourite flavour coming to a Japanese restaurant. Definitely will come back here again and bring some friends, I had a wonderful dining experience, the restaurant was quiet and relaxing and I was able to enjoy the company with others. read more

The best Asian restaurant in London, definitely in the top 10 best restaurants in London. This is the only place to get real authentic Japanese food in London Ontario. The sushi here is fantastic and everything is prepared very well here- especially the tempura. I would say that this is definitely the best tempura I have had in North America. I almost always order the Shiki special and it consists of: 1) an Appetizer (miso soup or Garden Salad) 2) A variety of assorted sashimi 3) A Variety of tempura 4) Sushi 5) Terriyaki Chicken 6) Breaded Fish 7) Rice 8) Dessert- usually ice cream. I usually don't ever care about salad, but.. the dressing here is amazing. I could almost drink it. The sashimi is very good and the sushi is well prepared. I've already talked about the tempura. Another thing that is great about the restaurant is that the rice tastes great. I eat this rice plain, it is fantastic. To me, this is the only truly great authentic Japanese restaurant in London. I find it quite sad that people gravitate more towards the AYCE places. AYCE places which make boat loads of cash throwing out an inferior product for people to stuff their faces. Hands down the best sushi restaurant in London ON. I've done a lot of travelling and still find the sashimi boat here to be the freshest and thickest cuts of salmon, tuna, and hamachi. The interior is kind of shabby but the food makes up for it. This place consistently delivers great fresh fish and is quite affordable for sushi standards. In terms of quality, Shiki is probably the best Japanese restaurant in London. They definitely have EXTREMELY fresh fish. Obviously this comes rather pricy than other sushi restaurants. Portions are rather small, because this is a quality over quantity place, not somewhere you can fill up easily on just an entree. That being said, I did discover a reasonably priced, filling, and tasty creation at Shiki - their donburis. Their katsudon (pork cutlet with egg on top of rice) is a popular favourite among my friends. I personally tried their ten don (tempura shrimp on top of rice) and found that to be quite tasty. They definitely do a good job with their tempura - not too fried, but a perfect light batter that just melts in your mouth. read more

Wow. Been coming here for the last few years and the quality keeps getting better. They serve fresh Uni (sea urchin) and Toro (fatty tuna belly) when its in season. Also the only place that serves aburi salmon and scallop and is as good as the ones I had in Toronto. All a la carte but the portions are very big. Favorite is the fresh beef tataki, again something you wouldnt expect in London. The sushi chef and their sushi rice chef are both from Japan and do this out of passion. I love sushi and have tried many restaurants during my travels and this place is frigging amazing. We came to London for the weekend and decided to try this place because of the reviews. I had the charashi, my wife had the rainbow roll and Shiki roll, and we shared the assorted tempura. There was a lot of variety in the tempura, and the diverse fish in the charashi was a surprised. We also like the addition of edible kelp, and fresh seaweed mixed in. This place is better than any Sushi place in Toronto. It costs $70 but was worth the money. We will have to come back to London just for the sushi. read more

Great Japanese place not far off the highway in London. Don't let the outside fool you--inside is quiet and nice with Japanese decor. This is the second time I've tried to visit shiki but they were closed AGAIN even though the hours say otherwise.

Been here once before for work and decided to come back for dinner. Ordered rolls and sashimi. Staff are very friendly, the decor is very subtle and quiet. Not my favourite in town, felt the food was underwhelming in portion size and taste. The fish was bland and for two adults we had three rolls and sashimi. Might have been my appetite or mood that night, but I decided to go somewhere after just to make dinner feel complete. read more

When it comes to Japanese food in London, this place is as good as you're going to get when it comes to the quality of the food. Everything is extremely fresh and flavourful. Highlights on the menu for me are kaiso salad, beef teriyaki, the sakura dinner, matsu dinner (delicious lobster tail), ebi una q, and their tempura in general (perfectly crispy). Their noodle soup broth is also first rate, although the portion could be a bit more generous. Also incredible is their ginger dressing for their salad. I do find the prices to be kind of high and occasionally the service to be somewhat inconsistent (they are either extremely nice and friendly or indifferent - but even if they're indifferent, the service is still efficient). But nevertheless, they serve excellent food. read more
