To my surprise, this rink appears to have been recently renovated with new ice and all! My son has skated here for practice recently and said the boards are a little soft, but I am sure that this rink is a work in progress. He's got more practices and soon, there will hopefully be a game we can attend. You should definitely stop by when you can!

This place has it all: skate rental, lockers, skate aids, food, seats to spectate, the whole nine yards! And, like I said, it's all well taken care of; and clean too! Not to mention the staff, which is ample and friendly. We had a blast skating for about 1.5 hours and even grabbed a snack at the on-site bar/restaurant (that has full view of the rink! Cool!). Prospect library. There is plenty of parking there even if they have karate classes, roller hockey and kids birthday parties going on simultaneously. The rink for roller hockey is solid. I've played here on Sunday leagues and Wednesday nights. The leagues are run fairly efficiently. They are competitive and each division is as equal is you can get for men's leagues teams. The floor does get very dusty though during the weekends and they should spend more time spacing out the games and cleaning it every so often. It's hard to make tight turns as it is on roller blades, the extra dust doesn't make it any easier. The people at the front desk are very pleasant and helpful should you need information. Overall a nice place to play hockey.

For us, this has been a frequent birthday party destination, as both of my kids as well as their friends have had their parties here. Biggest attraction at the place is their indoor roller rink. Other than the very crowded Orbit in Palatine, where else can you go have a skating party indoors? The party is affordable, even for non-residents of Mt. Prospect. They let you provide your own music or they can assemble your musical wish list for your party. There is a large area where you put on your skates. It is located next to a basketball court/gymnasium. Nice thing about a party here is that if the kids don't want to skate, they can play basketball in the gym right next to the rink, or do a little of each. The roller rink floor is in good condition and provides good traction for the wheels. It is big enough for the experienced skaters to zip around the large oval, even if the newbies are walking along the walls holding on. Need skates? They got rental equipment here or you can bring your own. There is a separate party room with tables and chairs down the hall from the roller rink. No wonder this place is so popular with kids for having parties. In my experience, the staff has been helpful in setting up and supervising the skating parties.

Its tucked into the woods about a mile inside homes and forest. The facility is pretty big for both an ice rink and a gymnastics facility. The ice rink also has a smaller rink designated for lessons. We came today for the Winter Fest and the staff was amazing and helpful. With children who did not know how to skate the ladies on the ice came immediately over to help get them on the ice and even skate around with them a little. The gymnastics area also has a window and sitting area for parents. The teachers in there as well were helpful with the kids. What a great unknown facility in Highland Park.

When it comes to kid classes I don't like to drive more than 10 minutes and Centennial Gymnastics is exactly 17 minutes away from my house (on a no traffic Sat morning), but I was looking for a gymnastics program that my daughter and I could do together. I've heard incredible things about Wilmette Gymnastics,* but their 3 year old class is without the parents. Typically I'm a fan of sending her to activities on her own, but was a bit nervous about sending her off to the balance beams, bars, etc without my supervision. I also used to teach gymnastics back in high school so selfishly wanted to revisit those days vicariously thru my daughter. Overall, I like the setup of this class. The gym is small so there's only one class at a time (at least on Saturday mornings). While small, they have it all: balance beam, bars, trampoline, etc. Since it's parent-tot it's setup as a series of obstacle courses so ti's a bit of a free-for-all for the kids, but I think that's perfect for this age. And while there's not a ton of instruction going on my daughter has learned how to do a forward roll and backward roll in just the few weeks we've been there. Perhaps cartwheels are next week? We spend quite a bit of time driving our kiddos back and forth to various skate parks in the area. My son had been begging us to take him to the new Vernon Hills Skate Park, so we headed out on a beautiful sunny day. Getting to the park was a little tricky. For some reason we missed the turn. Aspen Drive is a little hidden if you don't look out for it. When in doubt, just turn around in the Vernon Hills Police Department parking lot ;-) The skate park is new and on the smaller side. For our kids, this was a little more on the beginner level. I don't recommend it for advanced riders. The rails and ledges are limited and it's pretty flat. But, it's so nice and new. The park district did a fantastic job. I have no doubt it will get used quite a bit. It's a great place to gather with friends! Take note: There is only a little shade with a couple of covered areas Tons of parking, and there is a Walgreens nearby for those wanting a snack. The nearby Sullivan Center is actually really nice. It was closed the day they went due to Covid19. Highly recommend for those starting out. Open dawn to dusk.
