Chicago Whole Health Center is new to the area as they opened in 2012. I'm so happy they decided to start their business in the South Loop! I have had some medical issues that I have not been able to resolve for the past few years. Having tried Western medicine and holistic methods, I decided to try out acupuncture. I was not sure where to find a good acupuncturist (other than Chinatown). I really wanted someone I could communicate my problems to and who could communicate with me so that I could understand everything. Dr. Zhao was the answer to my problems. She speaks English and some Mandarin! I had told Dr. Zhao that it was my first time to acupuncture and told her my problems. She explained everything thoroughly to me and put me at ease by answering all my questions without any judgment. She was very soft spoken, calm, and friendly. During the procedure, I was worried about pain with the needles, but I barely felt a thing! It was very relaxing! Dr. Zhao was able to pinpoint all the tender areas on my body (that I did not even know were tender to the touch)! She is that good! Dr. Zhao was able to relate my tender areas to my medical problem. There are many rooms at this center, and everything looked very clean. While I was resting w/the needles in me, Dr. Zhao put on a heater to warm me up and also some spa music to relax me. I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep! Chicago Whole Health Center accepts insurance. Before I made my appointment, I spoke with the other doctor, Dr. Graham Pommerehn, who called my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) for me to see if acupuncture was covered under my insurance plan. He called me back to let me know what my insurance allowed under my plan. Super nice!!! The only thing I needed to pay was a co-payment. Awesome! Best of all, they are open late until 7pm! My experience with both Dr. Pommerhn and Dr. Zhao has been nothing short of excellent. After months of PT (17 sessions) at Rush Hospital, my nagging shoulder issues had improved, but only marginally. I went here for some severe neck pain. Dr. Pommerehen was able to diagnose it as a herniated disc without giving me an MRI. The medicine he gave me was all natural herbs and I was able to recover without surgery. I like his non-invasive approach to healing. He gave me a mixture of chiro, massage and physical therapy. It took a long time to heal, but I like that I was able to do it through exercise and changing my habits - many, many doctors prefer much more invasive treatments, or they keep you coming back over an extended period of time so them can keep billing you. I was talking to a coworker of mine who has a herniated disc in his neck also. Fortunately for me, our experiences were much different. I had a full rupture of my right Achilles tendon in late march of 2014. I did not find out about the graston technique until around Nov/Dec of 2014 and truly wish I would have know about it sooner and visited Dr. Graham Pommerehn earlier in my rehabilitation process. The office is very clean, professional and Dr. Pommerehn is a master in his field. We were scheduled for 12-15 sessions but stopped at around 9 because of the positive response my body was having to the technique. I had broken my tailbone a few years ago and recently was having more pain around it. I thought surgery may be my only option, but decided to try chiropractic care for the injury and I'm so glad I found this place! Dr. Pommerehn is amazing! He was very upfront and honest during our initial exam and thoroughly explained every part of the treatment plan. Given the extent of my I injury we weren't sure treatment would help, but his patience and treatment paid off! After a few weeks of intense treatment (three times a week) I have been able to manage the pain of this injury. Let me first start by saying that I was totally against any type of chiropractic care until I hurt my back earlier this year. After some nudging from a coworker, I decided it was time to get help. I've been seeing both Dr Graham and Dr Iris for over a year now and wish I can put more than 5 stars for the review! I tried many chiropractors before and so glad I found Dr Graham for my chronic back and neck pain. I regularly visit Dr Graham every one or two weeks for adjustment and physical therapy and it really improves my pain and mobility level! For Dr Iris, I would have regular acupuncture sessions every few months for overall wellness and always feel much better and refreshed afterwards. Dr. Pommerehen is amazing and has given me my life back...I had both of my big toe joints replaced due to arthritis and thought I'd be back to normal after the initial healing. Unfortunately, the scar tissue that developed and subsequent issues of plantar fasciitis, shin splints, knee and hip pain were a nightmare. I wasn't sure if I would ever walk normally again. I didn't get help at all from traditional physical therapy, my podiatrist, or other self help recommendations. I had never heard of Graston or ART but now feel like the poster child for what these techniques can do for you. I have my normal gait back and have learned things to do at home to restrengthen myself after a year of decline. Initially I found this place on Groupon. Three acupuncture sessions for $79. I have severe knots in my right shoulder blade from cutting hair for 27 years. I have tried massage, yoga and even had steroid shots. I've wanted to try acupuncture and I also live in the south loop. Doctor Iris Zhao did the treatment and it gave me about 4 weeks of relief. Went back for my second treatment and this time she added the Grafton treatment and I got 8 weeks of relief. I have been in such terrible lower back pain for a few days, to the point where I was walking crooked and barely making gains.
