I don't know about you, but I tend to take the more current reviews more seriously than older reviews. For that reason, I want to update reviews whenever it is possible. So, today it is possible for me to update this review for Dr. Hubert Mei. I had an appointment today. My right upper arm and shoulder have been bothering me along with my low back. Dr. Hubert's storefront office adjoins Harmony Natural Health (469 W. 31st St.) . His parents operate Harmony. His mom, Dr. Mei Ling is a acupuncturist and naprapath. See his dad about the various herbs and remedies at the front of the Harmony storefront. I mention Harmony, because on the days that Harmony is open, you enter that storefront to access Dr. Hubert's office. When Harmony is closed - - usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays - - you enter thru Dr. Hubert's storefront door. Today, I happened to enter thru the Harmony side and I signed in at the little stand that is to the left as you enter. The entrance to Dr. Hubert's is just a bit past the sign-in stand - -again to your left. Well, my last review still stands--this office is still 5 Stars! I was pleasantly greeted by Phyllis, who showed me to one of the rooms. Dr. Hubert came in and after assessing my situation, turned the appropriate spots on my body into a pin cushion with the acupuncture needles. About 20 minutes later, Phyllis removed the needles, attached the pads of the machine that stimulates the muscles and put some heat pads on my shoulders and back. 15 minutes later, I was ready for Dr. Hubert to put his great chiropractic skills to work. And shortly after that, I was on my merry way and feeling much better! Although it is no fun being in pain, I actually enjoy coming here. Dr. Hubert is not only a skilled acupuncturist and chiropractor but also just a really great guy. If you decide to come here, don't waste any time being anxious about meeting with a new doctor. Believe me, you will feel very comfortable with Dr. Hubert Mei. Although they were not here today, his other assistants Amelia and Vicki are also very nice and helpful. As I mentioned in my first review, you can also make an appointment with Phyllis on certain days. She is a massage therapists and has healing skills of her own to offer. Street parking is usually pretty convenient. During White Sox games, you can come in and pick up a permit if you need to park in a spot that requires one. This review is for the receptionist Phyllis. This person is rude and unprofessional. She has a condescending tone and sounded exasperated the entire time on the phone. I didn't expect such an attitude problem from the receptionist especially after reading all these amazing reviews about this doctor. Dr Hubert, if you're reading these reviews, please be aware that a receptionist can either deter new patients or welcome new patients. They're the first person we come in contact with and if it isn't pleasant, it's probably going to make us want to find another place. read more

I started seeing Dr Mei 4 years ago for sciatica pain after seeing 3 other chiropractors who did not help. My wife drove while I laid in the back seat in pain. Words can not describe how grateful I am to have met Dr. Mei. I had a very bad car accident about 10 years ago that resulted in me having very bad back pain and just recently I've been suffering from vertigo. If anyone has ever experienced vertigo it is not fun and very scary. A friend recommended Dr. Mei to me and after seeing many failed chiropractors I would do anything to make this go away. Dr. Mei is simply the best. He is knowledgable, personable, reasonable and professional. Dr. Mei treats your recovery, not your injury. "Doctor Hubert" has married eastern and western medicine in his chiropractic practice. He used acupuncture, electro stimulation of the muscles and deep tissue massage and at the end of the 1 hour session, the typical spinal manipulation. Don't expect a "miracle cure" as acupuncture actually takes time to work (I went once/week for 6 visits) and it was only after the third visit where I got the total pain relief from my back and neck. I am back to normal and "Doctor Hubert" encouraged me to go less frequently as time went on and then said I didn't need him anymore except when I felt I needed an adjustment. This is exactly the type of chiro you want to go to: one that weens you off instead of making you a lifelong patient. Don't be put off by the storefront appearance. It's the real deal inside. Also, expect to wait 15-20 minutes as Dr. Hubert give each patient individual attention and he also takes walk-ins which I think slows things down a little. read more

The best chiro in the world. He combines acupuncture, electrotherapy, massage, and chiropractic manipulation. Coming out of his office is like a miracle, it makes you fly-- tremendous relief from pain and strain, together with a surge of energy. Dr. Hubert is both an acupuncturist and a chiropractor, but I feel his special strength is in acupuncture. I have gone to him on several occasions over a period of years for help with relief of pain. Usually this involved a pulled muscle or some other sports injury, often a problem that had persisted for a week or more before I made an appointment. I was amazed that a single acupuncture treatment got rid of the pain altogether. I made an appointment for my sister who lives out of state. She suffers from upper back pain and found no help from many different doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, etc. on the west coast where they abound. She felt that Dr. Mei's acupuncture treatment really helped her, and said she wished she lived in Chicago so that she could go to him more regularly for help. Dr. Mei also helped me overcome insomnia, but was unable to provide much relief for my allergy problem. He referred me to his mother, also in the office, but her advice did not help me. I think Dr. Mei is a wonderful acupuncturist and I highly recommend him. If you go to see him, ask for "Dr. Hubert," the name his Western patients use (since his Chinese name is unpronounceable by us, I guess.) His father is also around the office and was trained in China. I know Dr. Hubert periodically goes to China for further training. Some practical notes: I think the office/ business name is Harmony. Some people show up without appointments, but you can book a time. Be sure to sign your name in the book in the waiting room or you may have a long wait before the office realizes that you had an appointment. read more

A few years ago, I developed multiple disc herniations and severe low back pain. I saw specialist doctors, had gone thru a few months of physical therapy, oral steroids routine, steroid injections twice, but nothing relieved my severe pain which radiated down till my feet. When I came to Dr. Hubert and showed him my history and MRI reports, he told me straight up, "if you don't feel better in 3 visits, don't come back". I did feel pain relief in 3 visits, and Dr. Hubert gradually kept decreasing my visits from 3/week to 1/week. After a few months he advised me to come only when you need it, since the pain was almost gone. He also advised me to do some exercises on my own to avoid the pain in future.
