A very well maintained place. Grass in between most of the sites no matter if it's back in or pull through. Restrooms at office are heated and very clean showers and toilet areas. Very kid friendly with a playground, bounce pads and a small putt-putt course. It has a small general store with necessities and a clean laundry room. Pads are all gravel but there is sites with a KOA patio. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Plenty of room to put up a canopy. My only bug a boo is lack of antenna channels. There's no cable and it's hard to get the local major networks besides NBC and WGN. Wi-Fi is great and so is the cell reception. They also have nice cabins and a very nice tent area. read more

Very peaceful. It's a bit of a drive from Chicago but the grounds are well kept and it's very quiet and peaceful. There is a grocery store not too far away. Also the worlds largest corn maze is not far either. And they have amazing cookies and caramel apples at the corn maze. I would stay here again. read more

Since Wisconsin got added to the Cook County travel quarantine list, this KOA seems like a reasonable option for a little weekend apple-picking camping getaway. We have mixed feelings about this campground, as detailed below. Pros: - Clean bathrooms - Well managed. You can text a number, and someone will come around in a golf cart to help you / deliver items. - Close to Chicago - Close to apple orchards - Pretty close to "civilization" Cons: - Some sites (including ours) are very close to a busy road, and it gets very LOUD at night - Sites are small and are not separated by trees, so there is very little privacy - Playgrounds are currently closed. Overall, this is a very well managed campground and a great option for an apple-picking camping trip just outside the city. We might consider going back if we can find a campsite that is located far away from the roads. read more

We are experienced campers. We've done camping hikes on the AT and in Manistee Forest. KOA is not camping and that's a good thing. We were looking for a quick getaway out of the city and it was perfect. The kids can runabout without fear due to the fenced in and secured area. Staff was amazing and attentive like at a hotel. Plenty of guided activities for kids as well as unguided at a pool, mini golf, and bouncing pad. There was a nearby town with grocery for anything you forgot to pack. My only issue was the area had many straightaways and is perfect for Saturday street racers without mufflers making the overnight a bit loud once every couple hours. If you're into staying in a tent for some S's and G's and letting your kids run wild then this is for you. read more

I'm personally not a fan of this place, or the owners! They make it very hard to move around corners with all their yellow rocks & poles! That they stick in the ground. The mini golf has weeds growing out of it. They don't maintain it! Every year the raise the prices on " activities " for the kids. Prices went up another $2.00. Which are normally "free" at other camp grounds! You can only use their firewood. read more

After reading other reviews I wasn't expecting too much but I have been pleasantly surprised! While we aren't staying in a busy weekend, there are still a good number of campers here. Lots of activities the kids enjoy like tetherball, Gaga ball, mini golf, swimming in the pool, gem mining, and disc golf. The bathrooms and showers are some of the cleanest we have ever seen at a campground. We like the water/electric sites that are on the ends of a row since they have more space and have a patio swing. Everything is an easy walk to get to and I even dont mind the sounds of the train from Wild West Town right next door. If my kids were younger they might enjoy walking over there. We also met some very nice people here just relaxing around the pool while our kids played. We did have an issue with our electric service however. At about 3:30am the electric went out at the post for my site and the one next to us (we are back to back and one post services both our sites). We brought it to the attention of the owner who sent one of the maintenance team over to take a look. They informed us they would have to bring in an electrician but offered to give us another site and not charge us for our second night. While inconvenient to have to move our hybrid to another site, when it is 95 degrees it is nice to get electricity and turn the A/C back on. Sylvia was very apologetic and I feel took care of us the best they could! This is our first KOA experience and if many are this good we will be staying at KOA's more often. read more

We decided to do a camping weekend in Union with our two boys (3.5 years and 1.5 year). We have a Value Kard membership and got an email that there was a buy a Friday night, get a Saturday night for free. That on top of discount tickets to the Wild West Town and the Illinois Railway Museum meant we had a perfect family weekend planned. We reserved a Kabin. It has one double bed and twin bunks plus enough room for us to set up our toddler's Pack n Play. The Kabins have a window unit for the summer but since it was a chilly September weekend, they gave us an electric heater. When we arrived, it was 7:45pm, pouring rain and about 45 degrees. BRRRRR! We were given Kabin #3 and it was a 1 minute walk or less to the bathrooms/showers. Not bad but not a lot of fun in the rain and cold. As we were putting sheets on our bed, we discovered a pair of dirty underwear stuffed into the side of the bed. EWWWWWW! There was also a couple of empty water bottles left by previous occupants. Here's to hoping they usually do a better job of cleaning the Kabins and we just caught them on a bad day. I almost subtracted a star just because of that but, like I said, here's to hoping it was just a bad day. In the fall there wasn't much to do but I hear in the summer they have a lot of activities. There was a mini golf course directly behind our Kabin but we never really checked it out. The bathrooms and showers were surprisingly nice and clean. The showers had hot water too which was much appreciated. Every staff member we came into contact with was very friendly. The wifi is spotty and comes and goes. But we were there for family time. If something had come up with my husband's work I don't know that he would have been able to stay connected long enough to get anything done though. The Wild West Town is steps away from the KOA and that was super convenient. It was nice to be able to hit the WWT in the morning, come back for naps then go back later. Overall, a very enjoyable weekend! read more

this was our first experience at a KOA campground. My four-year-old grandson participated in all of the activities planned and had a ball. The trick-or-treating and campsite decorating contest was a big hit. All of the staff were very friendly. bathrooms were clean. This campground, and perhaps all KOA Campgrounds, are more than double the price for a Florida state park for camping. However, all of the activities planned on Saturday made up for the price difference. We will definitely be back, and perhaps in time for the Halloween activities. So fun! read more

I have a hard time believing this is a KOA at all, the standards must have been lowered. They should definitely be only a Journey KOA if at all, definitely not a Holiday in our opinion. This place is dirty, old and worn out. The spots are extremely small and uneven. They offer dog runs that make no sense and the fences just take up room and would only fit a mini dog. The jump pad looks like a bounce house base without the safety of sides on it, it's maybe a 10x10 and not like any I have seen at any KOA we've stayed at. This location caters to tent campers. They have several run down old rv's that they rent out, circa 1982. The water stained our towels and clothes permanently. The store is completely closed due to Covid, even though they are allowed to be open by the state. The office is not even open, they post a number to call. They blame Covid for minimal services and amenities. The mini golf looks like it has not been updated since the 70's. I would never stay here again. read more

This campground was clean and staff was nice. We rented an RV park trailer which was first time camping at KOA for some family members and they really enjoyed it. We had three granddaughters in the group, it was nice to see them run at the nearby playground. We went to Wild West town which was conveniently right next to the campground. Absolutely do NOT recommend this campground. My family and I stayed here on vacation for three days, and it was anything but relaxing. The whole time an old man who worked there followed my cousins and I on his golf cart yelling at us for the most ridiculous things like sitting at the wrong picnic table & playing our music around our campfire (even though it was BEFORE quite time). This year not everyone in the family could make it up to camp the whole time so a few just came up for the day and oh boy was that a mess. We were told different information from every employee about what time they could come and where they should park. On top of all that, the owner Sylvia is extremely rude to her guests. Did an impromptu visit and this place is great. It was very clean and well maintained. The pool was sparkling clear - a little cool for this old body - but refreshing nonetheless. Flys are everywhere. There is a garbage dump and junk yard next door to this campsite. Also the swimming pool is ice cold. The people who work here are nice but there are too many silly rules. Also the staff constantly drive around on golf carts looking for violations. We are a one and done here. read more

I checked in today at site 116. I was told this site was a premium site with a concrete pad. The site does not have a concrete pad. I went into the office and let them know and I was told there is no concrete pads on any site. Woman was not willing to listen to what I had to say or willing to except that I was told that the site had a concrete pad. Very disappointed, will never make this our destination again. read more

We stayed at the Chicago KOA in the Deluxe cabin over the weekend with our 14 month old and our 2 year old. It was a great way to introduce camping without getting too into the great outdoor. The cabin was really nice. It had a little room with a sliding door with a built in full-sized bunk bed. Perfect for sleeping with a child. If you can find something to wedge into the opening area, it makes for a great makeshift crib too. There is a queen bed in the main area with a table for 4. The mini-fridge was a decent size. It fit a half gallon of milk with plenty of room for other things. It came with all of the utensils, towels and dishes that you will need. They even provided dish soap and a sponge. Outside, there is a small deck with a gas grill and a picnic table. The cabin is located at the back of the RV area, so there isn't that much open space and grass near. That was the biggest draw-back for us. We enjoyed the pool and the flashlight candy hunt. The Wild West Town is right next door and I would highly recommend it. It was so surprised by how much they had there, all included in the price. The kids LOVED it. Overall it was a great stay and the staff was very friendly. read more

The campground was good and clean. We didn't use the restrooms so I cannot comment on those. The staff was friendly and nice with ONE EXCEPTION. The guy on the golf cart that parked us was very rude and hateful. He yelled at me to move my car when we first arrived. Then he yelled at me to pull behind the motor home before following him to the site (I had planned to pull behind our coach when my husband started moving but he made me do it HIS way and was very rude about it) then he yelled at my husband when we were parking. I would have given 4.5 stars had it not been for that rude employee. Consistent KOA standards with the exception of rude guy. read more

I would give this place an average score. Employees: Every male we came across was rude. The females were alot mote polite. Bathrooms/showers: Very clean and maintained. Which is a great thing! Water: Do NOT drink! It smells and tastes funny. Stop by the store and bring your own. Quiet time: Only 1 loud group of drunk adults and no one from the staff is helping with this problem. Which sucks. Other than that, people around here were respectful. Kids: Tons of stuff for children to do. Very kid oriented. Pool: Clean. Would I stay here again? Probably not, because employee behavior is a huge thing for me when I go places. That alone can turn me off from even going into a restaurant. Maybe they are just all having a bad day. We were impressed by this campground. The sites are clean and well maintained. The showers and bathrooms are immaculate. No loud music a night. Abundance of things to do. A nice little pool that was unfortunately closed for the season. Good firewood. Well stocked camp store. Near Illinois Railway Museum and Wild West. Great playground and staff that was wonderfully polite... at least until we were getting ready to leave. Understand that we are clean campers. We work hard to keep up our site, and to leave it cleaner than we found it. Was hard to do with this one... the only trash we found on the site was a single bottle cap! We were loading the last little bit into our camper getting ready to leave. I was in the midst of folding and matching and hitching when I heard a voice shout from the road "trash goes in the dumpster!" It wasn't a tone of a polite reminder. It wasn't the tone of customer service. It was the tone of a raw and untempered demand for obedience. The trash was neatly neatly gathered and bagged. It was the last thing to be loaded and disposed of at the dump station, and this person ( who I assume to be the owner based on the pictures at their website) sat on his golf cart and shouted his command from the road. Ina voice loud enough to turn every head to look at us. He stared, scowling until we collected the trash, then without so much as a thank you, sped away. It is a great pity that such a nice campground must resort to such tactics, leaving me filled with resentment at the end of what had been a very nice weekend. We had been planning to return in the spring, perhaps renting both a cabin and a site so my parents could join us. Now I'm not so sure. Normally a poor customer service experience will reduce my review to two stars, but this campground is so nice, I'll deserves three. Just be aware that if you stay here you may experience rude treatment at the hands of a staff that feels the need to obsess over their rules to maintain their award winning status. If you can let such things pass you should have a very nice time. read more

I didn't realize that I didn't update my Yelp review for so long. The new owners are great - The first year was probably a rough one but a few years later and all is well. The campground is clean (really clean). It's in a nice location. Personally, I wouldn't take a place in the RV area (kind of behind the KOA building), it's ok but you don't get any of the benefits of the park, it's just an RV city. If you get a place in front of the camp store you will enjoy it. The owners are friendly and we were pleasantly surprised they remembered us and where we liked to camp (not from a computer, just walking around and saying hello). Wifi is still 1994 era, hope they can fix that. We ended up in the RV area because of overfill and the Wifi there was better than it is up front, hopefully they extend it to go everywhere. We've been back every year and it's a great place. read more

This place is the definition of average. Don't get me wrong, the camping itself can be pretty fun, but it's the other people that can ruin it. I'm not some antisocial freak, but the people here are generally ones to be avoided. Lots of them are way too friendly, acting like they've known you since kindergarten. If you're like this, this is the place for you. The other people to avoid are the employees. I've been there twice, and both times the employees have been grouchy and extremely irritable. When I stayed here a few days ago, the lady at the desk seemed like she had better things to do when we checked in. In addition, the same employee was in a campsite near us, breaking nearly every rule in the book. There was yelling and screaming late at night and there must have been half a dozen vehicles driving 20 mph (despite the 5 mph speed limit) leaving and returning throughout the day. Otherwise, it's not a terrible place but it needs more strictly enforced rules and their employees need to get it together. read more

It is a generally very fun place for the family. We rented a "Kabin" and it was nice in there. The water smelled really bad however, and it stunk up the whole place. Outside it was pretty nice. A great place to camp in a tent as well. The pool always has a lot of bugs and leaves in it, and it makes it somewhat hard to enjoy. We've now been there twice. The first time (we stayed in the same cabin) was really nice. The bathroom toilet was broken, but the bathroom itself wasn't bad. This time it was fixed, but there was 2 major issues that took away these stars. The employees are constantly driving around in their golf carts looking for violations. They also frequently break their own speed limit rules. Also during this visit, we had an employee camping right near us, but late at night there was screaming, shouting, and loud slamming noises coming from her trailer. It sounded like an abusive couple was throwing chairs at each other. It was kind of funny, but broke their "loud noises" rule (which can only take place between 7-10 pm). Their rules are stupid, if you're outside you have no privacy, and that's what caused me to give this 3 start review. read more

I don't even believe this camp ground deserves 1 star, worst camp ground I have ever been too. There was flooding in my rented trailer bathtub and sink around 9:30/10 at night and my trailer smelled like sewage and we called the owner asking if they had an emergency number to come help fix it and they told us we were going to have to sleep in this disgusting trailer and they'd fix it in the morning. Plus once check out came around we wanted a discount for having to endure all this and they refused to give any type of discount and then told us they did everything they could do. WORST SET OF EMPLOYEES EVER, DO NOT RECOMMEND WHAT SO EVER!!! read more

One star is too much to give this campground. We went on a family camping trip and rented a trailer so we would have a bathroom & running water, etc. On the 2nd night of our stay the sinks & bathtub backed up with black water that smelled so bad you could not stand to be inside. We called the after hours number and were told there was nothing they could do until morning. We had no use of our rental trailer for the night and thought we would have to find somewhere else to sleep for the night because they would do nothing to help us. By chance, our very nice neighbor, Bill, came outside and was able to help us at least drain the nasty water out for the night so we could go back into our trailer. His girlfriend also came over and cleaned and deodorized the bathroom. Thanks to them, we were able to sleep that night, but had to use the bathhouse for water & toilet. I could have paid half the price & rented a cabin if I had wanted to use the public bathrooms. We talked to the manager, Sylvia Weber, about the situation at checkout, expecting some type of compensation or discount for the extreme inconvenience, and instead she was very RUDE and basically tried to blame me for the problem and said we should be glad to get our cleaning fee back ( which everyone gets back, it's just a deposit in case you do any damage). She never apologized for the situation, was very argumentative and told me she would do nothing for us. We will not go back to this campground and would not recommend it to anyone. When a manager/owner is this rude to her campground guests, it is a reflection on how bad your stay will be at this campground. read more
