He prescribed me more CBT-I. It was in the goddamn referral that CBT-I had already failed. What a waste of my time and money. He also made a blanket statement "medication is never the answer." Not, "medication is a last resort", not "medication should not be used lightly," but "medication is never the answer." That's a religious statement, not a scientific one. When I mentioned my experience with CBT-I and how it made my sleep problems worse, he said he wasn't an expert on CBT-I. He literally claimed ignorance on a treatment he just tried to sell me. It would be as if an orthopedic surgeon had said "I'm not an expert on physical therapy." At that point you'd seek a different surgeon. I had to pry a sleep study out of him, he was resistant to even giving me a sleep study, saying I should retry CBT-I, a treatment that had already failed me once before. I ended up canceling the sleep study and saught treatment elsewhere with better results. I decided that given how poorly the doctor had listened during the session, I didn't trust him to actually interpret the results in good faith.

I was able to use techniques of sleep compression to readjust my body clock, and the results have been good. I should say something about my incredible sleep dentist, Dr. Gail Henry who made my mandibular advancement device. She is super-smart and competent but also warm and generous with her time and attention. Great Doctor. My CBT-therapist Dr. Scherer was helpful in introducing me to CBT-I and, as I said earlier, the overall benefit I received from him and this program was significant, and I'm grateful for that. Dr. Scherer himself I've found to be cold, a bit stiff, without a whole lot of relational or empathic ability.

I have health issues and diagnosed with sleep apnea. Sent by pulmonologist to check on mouth piece…read morefor sleep apnea, but was concerned about xrays. I was told minimal radiation. When i arrived I asked if I could speak with Dr to see if good candidate, as I was told by my Dr to minimize xrays she told me they needed the xrays first. Then they did a CT SCAN and dental xrays. They then did a scan of my teeth to measure for piece. Then the Dr came in, and wanted me to put a credit card on file so they could bill me and I was to file claim and be reimbursed by medicare. The appliance was $6,977.00. I refused and told them it all needed to be pre approved by Medicare. She took out a tiny ruler and measured my bite and told me I was not a good candidate. For-this they billed me my deductible and I received a bill for $217.00. The remainder of the $500 fee for xrays and exam. I received emails and voice mails, many. I contacted Medicare and they stated this was paid. I contacted Midwest Dental and they said I did not owe them and they were fighting with Medicare. (Good thing I had not qualified for the mouth appliance or that I had not put my credit card on file.) This was the Barrington location. Just check around and be your own advocate. I went through a CT Scan and xrays for naught! And with that said, and after speaking with my Dentist, I am not sure the mouth appliance was a $7000 value. It is made to change your bite and could cause dental issues.

Our experience with Dr. Zak was horrible! Our four year old has asthma and we made our appointment…read moreto see Dr. Zak months ago. I took the day off of work and took him out of school for the day to attend this appointment. The address for Lurie Children's Hospital is 225 E. Chicago Ave. We parked in the hospital garage on Chicago Ave and the elevators down were to St. Clair, Huron or Superior Streets. We took the St. Clair elevator down and had no idea where Chicago Avenue was (it was our first time visiting the pulmonology dept). My four year old and I got lost in the Northwestern maze and ended up in the Galter Pavilion where the person at the information desk told us to enter Lurie's on Superior Street. She added that many people get confused with the Chicago Ave address and the parking garage exits. Because of this confusion we arrived at our appointment with Dr. Zak 20 minutes late. The nurse came out to tell us that Dr. Zak has a strict late policy and refused to see us. I explained what had happened, and asked to talk to Dr. Zak or even write her a note, but Dr. Zak refused to see us. Through her nurse she offered to write a "note" to our preschool on why our four year old missed the day. For a hospital that is so well respected and supposed to be so family friendly, our experience with Dr. Zak was horrendous. There was no empathy for why we were 5 minutes past their late policy, that we had waited to get into this appointment for months, that I took off work and that my son missed school to see this asthma doctor. It was a terrible and upsetting experience and I'd strongly advise not to see this doctor. When I called Patient Relations to discuss my complaint they apologized and said most doctors will still see the patient if there is a valid excuse for being late. The Pulmonary department at Lurie got the complaint and was quick to call me back and reschedule us for the following week which was much appreciated. They said clinics have the 15 minute late policy but after that it is up to the provider if they will see the patient. Not Dr. Zak--big thumbs down!

James Wang is an incompetent facial plastics surgeon. Be forewarned. He and his team love to gaslight you too and make you feel like you're going crazy when you vocalize concerns. He is really good at acting "concerned" while brushing you off. I finally found a competent surgeon who confirmed that Wang did a botched job. As those procedures were not needed for my breathing, which was normal before this surgery, the procedures led to severe and disabling injuries from the amputations that Wang had forced on me. This physician does not understand rhinoplasty either, as he completely butchered my whole nasal anatomy, leading to disfigurement and concomitant functional injuries. James Wang MD PhD should be rated negative 10 stars, if the system allowed it, for his unethical behavior, disregard of the patient safety and abandonment of the postoperative patient care. Wang has obviously learned nothing from the years of his medical training that he finished only last year. One peculiar detail about my postop visit with James Wang MD PhD: he laughed into my face when he realized what damage he had done to my health with his rookie surgical skills and medically unnecessary interventions... That was quite a scene, very sad, disturbing and terrifying for a patient who had just undergone the harmful medical unnecessary procedures riddled with surgical mistakes of the rookie Wang.... All requests for subsequent follow-up appointments were declined without explanation... Do not recommend this incompetent joke. Beware of the dangers and risks Wang poses to your health or the health of your loved ones.
