My husband and I went to Chicanas for lunch and it was SO good! I got the QuesaBirra and Horchata, my husband got the chicken flautas and everything was SO good! The horchata was the best I've had in this area! The Birra was tender and so flavorful. My husband loved his flautas! Leo, the owner, was there and he was super kind. He mentioned they have nightlife on Fridays, Saturday, and Sundays. They have R&B nights and nights where you can learn salsa, merengue, and cumbia. So definitely come check them out! read more

Friday night was our second visit to this restaurant. Our first visit, shortly after they opened, was disappointing, but we attributed many of the issues to a new restaurant working through growing pains. We decided to give them another chance, hoping for a much better experience. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. To begin on a positive note, our server was polite, and appeared to be very young and inexperienced. Ater all, everyone has to start somewhere. After being seated, we received water right away, but had to ask for chips and salsa. Two people ordered beer, yet only one arrived initially; the second came several minutes later. One member of our party ordered birria tacos but was told they were unavailable after ordering, so they had to choose something else. We were also informed there would be a 10-15 minute wait for our food, which was reasonable. Before our meals arrived, I noticed my fork still had food stuck to it. Our server apologized immediately and quickly replaced it. I ordered the pollo asado and substituted the rice for extra refried beans. Another person made the same substitution. When my meal arrived, the onions and refried beans were missing, and the "salad" consisted of only shredded lettuce. Our server explained the kitchen had misread the ticket and offered to remake the plate, but I simply requested the missing beans. Unfortunately, the food was only lukewarm, and our server checked on us just once during the meal. The biggest issue came after we finished. We presented gift certificates that don't expire until November, but were told the restaurant no longer accepts them. When we asked why valid certificates were being refused, we were told they had ended their relationship with the third-party company that sold them and would need to contact that company for a refund. We asked to speak with a manager. A woman approached our table but never identified herself. She insisted there was a notice on the front door explaining the policy and repeatedly accused us of trying to avoid paying our bill, which was completely false. We simply wanted to use gift certificates that were still within their stated validity period. We paid our bill in full but chose not to leave a tip based on the overall experience and the way management handled the situation. After leaving, we went back to look for the posted notice. There was nothing on the front door. We eventually found a small handwritten note on receipt paper taped to a plexiglass stand displaying weekly specials, hardly the prominent notice we had been told about. At that point, the same woman approached my friend and loudly said she should be ashamed for not tipping our young server, mentioning the server's mother worked there and had witnessed everything. She then repeatedly called my friend "a Karen" in front of other customers. Throughout the evening, we remained respectful, asked reasonable questions, and paid our bill in full. In return, we were met with raised voices, false accusations, and personal insults from someone representing the restaurant. We hoped this second visit would change our opinion after a disappointing first experience. Instead, it confirmed it. Between the repeated service issues, incorrect food, poor communication, refusal to honor still-valid gift certificates without clear notice, and unprofessional treatment from management, this is not a restaurant we will return to. read more

Contrary to some reviews on here, this has become myself and my fiancée's favorite Mexican restaurant in Columbia. The waitress was very kind to us and flustered from a group of angry people before us. She handled it very well and got our orders in pretty quickly, bless her for handling the situation well! As usual, our food came out pretty quickly and per usual, was phenomenal! Fiancee got a carnitas burrito and myself some chicken nachos. Everything was fresh and tasted great! Pricing is very reasonable and we enjoy dining on Fridays because it isn't terribly busy. Definitely a hole in the wall of sorts and would love for this place to get more business cause they definitely deserve it. Great staff, great atmosphere, even better food! Six of our ROMEO group went here today for lunch. We'd been once before, about a month or so after Chicanas originally opened and have been curious about how the restaurant was doing. Seems like everytime we've gone by at lunch there's not many cars. So we figured we'd try it out to see if there was a problem with the food, service, or something else. Well, we arrived about 11:10 and we were apparently the first customers of the day since the parking lot only had three cars in it, and one of them was one of our two. They quickly set up a table for six of us and the waitress took our drink orders. We mainly ordered soft drinks but I see they do have their liquor license. The restaurant was decorated for it looks like Halloween. We placed orders for two Chimichangas (chicken and beef), one beef quesadilla, one taco bowl with rice, beans, beef, an enchilada, and three tacos. While we waited they brought out chips and salsa. The chips were very good (a second batch came out warmed and that was even better). The salsa was very fine (not chunky) and had an excellent taste, not hot at all but mild. Everyone liked the salsa. The food was well plated and looked good. Nobody had any complaints on the food and thought it was very good. Nothing special about what we ordered...the owner said he was from California and out there they generally served authentic Mexican dishes and the Tex-Mex versions of food. I guess what we had today was the Tex-Mex version. Their menu did have a good selection...several types of Tortas, flautas, birria types...and looked good. Apparently the business is good on weekend nights. I don't see why more people aren't trying it for lunch! Give it a try...I've been hesitant on how good the food is, but today pretty much gave us a good feeling about the restaurant. Only negatives today was there wasn't any paper in the restrooms to wipe your hands. The floor had just been mopped so it was a bit sticky. Our overall rating was a 4.4. I'll go back. read more

Opted to give this place a shot and unfortunately it was mid. I'll breakdown the ratings below: Service : 5/5 - our waitress was friendly and came to the table the right amount of times. Food came out quickly and the checkout process was smooth. Food : 3/5 - although the food didn't come out the way i was expecting it to, the flavor profiles were good. Nothing that wowed or stood out. Value : 1/5 - the price points, even on their lunch options were on the steep side. I don't mind paying higher prices for great food or experiences (check my other reviews) but I felt they missed the mark on this. Atmosphere : 2/5 - it was Friday at lunch time which I would expect to be busier than what it was. The decor is nice but the place just felt empty. It was physically empty as we were the only table seated for half of our time there but it just felt like the place had no soul or character. OMG do not go to this place. We stopped by for dinner on. Friday night. We were one of very few people in there. Music was so loud it was hard to carry on a conversation. Waitress was very young but nice. After ordering drinks, we asked if they supplied chips. This is supposed to be a Mexican restaurant. Where's our chips? Finally got chips and salsa, it was ok. One of our party has dirty silverware so we asked for clean silverware. Ordered food. Tried to order the Birrio because that was what they are supposedly known for. They were out of birrio. So we ordered the pollo assado. Supposed to come with chicken, onions, rice,beans, and salad. Two in our party wanted all beans and no rice. Food took a while to come (unlike typical Mexican restaurants). They brought rice and no beans. Brought out beans for those two after pointing this out. Nobody had onions. Portions are very small. The "salad" was a handful of shredded lettuce. The small portions of the food tasted alright, we didn't eat the "salad". We didn't complain or point out any of these things. After eating we were ready to pay and leave. We had a gift certificate we had purchased for that restaurant. Waitress informs us they will not accept it. What do you mean? We purchased the gc to try that restaurant. Asked for a manager. They continued to refuse to honor the gc. The lady manager accused us of not trying to pay the bill. Of course we were paying, we just want to use the gc we bought for that restaurant. They inform us they no longer do business with the people we bought it from. They said there was a sign on the door. How is that our fault? So now we have to pay for the meal on top of what we paid for the gc. Not only that, it wasn't a great dining experience. We pay and leave. My wife then looks for the sign at the door. Don't see it. She's goes back inside and asks where the sign is so she can take a picture of it to try and get our money back from the gc. The lady manager starts yelling at her, calling her a Karen, and says we should be ashamed because we didn't leave a tip. Why would we? We just got screwed over by them. Very unprofessional. Stopped in for lunch on a Friday and was surprised it wasn't very busy. I ordered the nachos, and honestly, they were underwhelming -- not much flavor, and several toppings you'd typically expect (like sour cream, guacamole, and jalapeños) were charged a la carte. Ambiance was nice. What really stood out was that the prices didn't match the quality or quantity of the food. For what I paid, I expected something a bit more filling and flavorful. First red flag was you can clearly tell they pay for their reviews, which are the only positive ones (fake) Second red flag is the owner responding back to the actual real reviews with excuses like "we've only been open for 2 weeks" Instead of holding themselves accountable. This is the same management from "Chicanos" in Elgin that closed due to lack of customers & old food, they just changed the name. So, NO you have not been open for "only 2 weeks".
