BREAKFAST FRITA
Erica M.

I had just completed my first 5K (fueled by a peanut butter cookie and a protein shake) and was looking for looking for a savory breakfast. I saw that this restaurant was nearby and wanted to give it a try. As soon as you pull into the parking lot, you smell the aroma of delicious food. I will say that every employee that I came across, smiled and said good morning so the customer service was great. I ordered the breakfast Frita which is basically a breakfast burger and some homemade fries. Those homemade fries were some of the best potatoes that I have ever had. Seasoning was perfect. They were crunchy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. I literally did not need ketchup salt pepper. Nothing just the potatoes. As far as the breakfast burger for me, it wasn't that great. The flavor was there however, my bread felt a bit stale, the fried egg was a bit overcooked so you didn't get that creamy yolk to help give moisture to the beef. Unfortunately, the beef needed that moisture because it was overcooked (they did not ask how I wanted it prepared nor did I tell them). Now, although my breakfast burger wasn't the best, I would still go to the restaurant and try some of their other foods because again the aroma was amazing. So I know other things are good.

Pollo A La Plancha

I love the food here! The arroz con pollo is so moist and delicious! Perfect filling meal as you get a salad, Maduros and an avocado. My wife's chicken on a plancha was too hard to eat. The black beans and rice were perfect. Service was great and place is very clean. This our go to spot in Deland!

El Viejito

Maravilloso! What a wonderful place to eat. The decor is wonderful and the staff is very friendly. But most importantly the food is authentic and fantastic. Having left Miami almost 10yrs ago I am also craving good Cuba cuisine and Chicas hits the bullseye. The cocktails are very well made as well. I highly recommend the El Viejito Old Fashioned

If you ask my husband, this should be 5 stars. I will say his chicken, Chica's Chicken dish, was amazing. I'm trying to eat healthier (big mistake) so I had the Tropical Salad. The avocado was not ripe, but the plantain chips were delicious. Maybe I was full from the empanadas we had as an appetizer, but I was under whelmed. Their flan was perfectly made. We got a Cuban sandwich to go. It tasted good but was incredibly salty. The restaurant itself is very beautiful inside. Quite a bit of lovely artwork. I think its a great place for a date night with cocktails. The mango mojito was sublime. My only complaint is the chair situation. In the room we sat in somehow the chairs hit me right in the hip bones. I wished we lived closer, I woukd definitely come back to try more items.

We came for brunch and really enjoyed our food choices. The churrasco was cooked to perfection and the mojo on top made it more perfect. I love that they have mimosa carafes available however wish it would be a bit more bubbly as the ones we got tasted more like straight juice. Service was excellent we will definitely be back.

Food was good, we were a party of 10 celebrating a birthday. Really liked the live music but waiter was nee and kept on messing up the orders.

We came as a group of five. All but two of the group have eaten here before. Only one Cuban born person in our party but she likes the food here so things are pretty authentic Cuban dishes

this was an enjoyable late lunch spot. For the price, i felt it was all very good. My chicken was amazing. Others at the table enjoyed their meals as well. Sat outfit and it was a good experience.

Chicas is my most favorite place. The food is so delicious and the prices are great. The service is slow but they say great things take time. Best place for a coffee, lunch or dinner

Cuban Eggrolls
Nirely C.

First of all as cuban I am very picky with my "cuban" food. The service was great. Zeke was super helpful and the food was very flavorful. My 3 stars is for the following the cuban egg rolls although super tasty $12 for 2 small egg rolls I found overpriced. The Moro black bean with rice was not good, and menu items have been changed but no updated menus available. Makes it hard to decide on something and the be told "sorry the items is now different, no longer served with ..." Everything else was very delicious. We don't live in the area but always enjoy trying new places when traveling through town. They do have music and a bar the ambiance was nice for a Sunday afternoon.

The staff was super friendly, great has small-town hospitality vibe. Since we stopped for breakfast let's start with the coffee, absolutely fantastic. Rich, fresh, and hot - and they never let your cup get below half full. I swear the waitress had a sixth sense for it because my mug was topped off with a smile before I even realized it was getting low. You don't see that here in Miami. The portions are wonderfully generous without being ridiculous. My vegetable omelette was loaded with fluffy eggs & veges, crispy bacon, and perfectly golden hash browns - and the biscuit! Love me a good southern style biscuit! Everything tasted homemade like someone's grandma was back in the kitchen looking out for you. Best of all? The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity you get. I left feeling so FULL that my next meal was dinner. If you're looking for a cozy spot with great food, excellent coffee, and people who actually care about making your visit special, stop by this little diner.

The ambiance was inviting, stylish, and felt like the perfect setting for a weekend experience with friends. The food overall was good. The shrimp and grits were definitely the highlight for me full of flavor and well done. The steak, however, wasn't my favorite and didn't quite hit the mark. The fruit bowl was exactly that fruit in a bowl nothing special but fresh. The banana pudding was delicious and a sweet way to end the meal. The service was a bit inconsistent, which I believe was due to the waitress being very busy. There were a few moments where we waited longer than expected for menus, straws, or even water. While noticeable, it didn't completely take away from the experience and felt more like a staffing issue than a lack of care. Overall, I would absolutely return for brunch with friends. The atmosphere alone makes it worth another visit, and with the right company, it's a great spot to enjoy a relaxed and beautiful brunch experience.

For appetizers, we tried the coconut shrimp, Table tots, spinach dip, and charcuterie. Everything was fantastic except the shrimp, which were a bit overcooked. The rest of the starters were flavorful and well prepared. Most of our group ordered the NY strip since they were out of the filet, while others chose the meatloaf, mushroom pasta, and a few other dishes. Portions were generous and the food was tasty. While the strip wasn't the best I've had, it was cooked perfectly. Dessert was a bit hit or miss. We tried all the pies -- most were decent and nicely presented, though nothing stood out. The salted caramel cheesecake had a grainy texture rather than being smooth. Service was friendly, but a little rushed. Courses came out too quickly, making it hard to enjoy each one before the next arrived. The table became crowded with plates, and the pace felt chaotic at times. The server was kind and seemed possibly overwhelmed. Overall, a good meal with solid food, but pacing and a few execution details could use some attention.

Even though time and time again I wanted to go I just never pulled it for one reason or another. But the other day I went and I have to tell you. Wow , if you want a good southern meal with southern hospitality a country kitchen feel like your Mama's homemade cooking. Filled with love in flavor. This is a place to go. My sweet man had their meatloaf plate more food than you can shake a stick at. It was delicious full of flavor and perfectly ,perfectly balanced .Their mashed potatoes ,Remind me of my mom's. They are made the way mashed potatoes are supposed to taste. The meatloaf perfect ,the fried okra just absolutely amazing and the ranch dressing to dip the okra in better than bottled . Then I just had the simple soup ,simple soup my foot .I had their potato soup and the Angel ( I think I remember her saying her name was Chrissy ) who made it , well I have to tell you. I believe when you sit down to a meal, you begin to enjoy it by the aroma of the flavors in the dish this soup when it was placed in front of me teased my pallet just from the aroma with the first bite I knew I was tasting perfection. It wasn't over seasoned. It wasn't under seasoned it hit every point on the flavor scale simple but delicious and extremely satisfying. It filled my stomach and my heart with warmth ,flavor and satisfaction. Now let's talk about the service we were greeted with kindness and a smile each server that we spoke to did more with a smile and a kind word and making our experience worth coming to the restaurant. The prices are reasonable large amount of food you get .The staff is amazing.. The ambience is very country very homie. It just makes you smile. The only thing I have to warn you about is if you are handicap and you are in a wheelchair, the bathrooms not so easy to maneuver. I had to leave my walker outside the bathroom to go into the bathroom, but they make up for it with having handrails for you to support yourself which compensates for the size of the bathroom. so just be prepared for that if you're a handicapped. Coming to this restaurant the only thing I'm sorry about is that it took me 20 years to get here but trust me I will be a regular from now on. The cooking the ambience and the people reminded me of home and what I grew up with perfect experience all the way around.

Once you understand that this is a restaurant founded in 1959, housed in a former two story home originally built in 1951, you may come to appreciate the history and understand the vibe. It is truly amazing that this historic restaurant has survived in 2026. I happen to like the uniqueness and honestylye-feel, as if you're at someone's grandma's house. There is plenty of parking directly behind the restaurant and a small lot in ftont of the restaurant. There's parking along the side too. I enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers surrounding the restaurant. Honestly, they can make for a nice photo on a good day. Some things are self-serve and unlimited, like the old-fashioned salad bar and hot vegetables. A server will hand-carve your choice of meat for you. Just "know-before-you-go" by taking a quick glance at the website. Is it five star food? No. Is it just homey country style cooking? Yes. They serve lunch and dinner. They are supported by generations of locals. Lots of people like to celebrate their birthday here. If you bring at least 3 friends to help you celebrate, you'll dine for free. Contrary to many reviews, I've never experienced or seen rudeness. In fact, I've seen staff taking the time to be friendly to guests. When coming here, you can't be super picky about the food - it's not a five star restaurant. Yes, the green beans may be from a can. It's okay, you'll survive! Enjoy the unique experience!

This scratch kitchen spot has quickly become one of my favorite places in town, and after our recent visit, my guests and I were all blown away. The food was absolutely amazing, impressing everyone at the table so much that we're already planning our next trip back--definitely going to be regulars from here on out. Everything is made from scratch with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and you can taste the care and love that goes into each dish. Their menu is creative and diverse--think insanely good hand-crafted sandwiches, burgers that are huge and perfectly executed (juicy patties on toasted buns, cooked exactly to order with complex, flavorful toppings), hearty salads, quiches, sloppy joes, and daily specials that keep things exciting. We tried a mix of items, and nothing disappointed; flavors were bold, portions generous, and every bite was packed with that homemade goodness. The homemade desserts and rocking sweets are worth saving room for too--they're the perfect finish to an already stellar meal. The vibe is cozy and welcoming--cute little spot with indoor/outdoor seating, great service that's attentive and friendly (staff makes you feel like family right away), and it's in such a charming part of Artisan Alley next to the brewery, perfect for a casual lunch, dinner, or just hanging out. They even offer delivery and catering if you want to bring that magic home or to an event. BakeChop is the real deal--a local gem putting heart into food, family, friends, and good times. If you're in DeLand and haven't been yet, stop waiting and go try it. You won't be disappointed; we'll be back often for sure! The meat was very juicy and flavorful. I enjoyed all the onions. It made for a solid meal. The old bay potato chips were a good pairing for the burger. My mom ordered a more traditional burger and she liked it. I noticed the bakery item display and it had a good selection. I deducted 1 star for customer service.
