I literally read the name of my selection off the menu board several times, and at least twice pointed out to them what I wanted on the menu board directly behind them, yet twice the guy insisted they had no such selection. Only after he confirmed with his fellow employees what I wanted would he accept my order. Jerk. What I picked: jumbo tender and barbecue plate (wish I'd taken a photo of the menu board). The order was slow to arrive, though I found out that's because the tenders were being freshly made. And the plate contained an impressive amount of food when it arrived. The barbecue wasn't bad, the chicken was indeed hot, and the slaw and potato salads were nice additions. I didn't care much for the hush puppies as they didn't seem very flavorful and were too dry. One of the other staff members was kind enough to fill my drink cup several times as I worked my way through the plate. That evening, and during the following morning, my stomach did not handle the meal well at all. I hadn't noticed any off-putting flavors in the food, but clearly something did not sit well with my digestive tract. So between the early issues with the service and the frequent bathroom visits I made in the hours following my trip to Smithfield's, I'm afraid I've gotta suggest that you look elsewhere if you are in search of a good experience in the Aberdeen/Southern Pines area. If you decide to take a chance here, I hope your fortunes are better than mine were!

The kiddo preferred the fries (which last week she didn't eat fries so her reviews are pretty all over the place). She got a lemonade which we all tried and it was delicious! Like ordering a cake for my wife's birthday. So the day before I wind up at the mercy of the bakery as she wanted a strawberry blossom cake only made at Lowe's. Of course, there weren't any made at the time and after calling two other locations, I thought all was lost. Theresa stepped in and said she would make me one and I could even pick it up after 4 that day as we would be out of town the next. I got there just after 4 and she had a beautiful cake waiting for me. Saved my hide and did so with professionalism and kindness. So thank you, Theresa, for making my wife's birthday a bit better and keeping this disabled vet from panicking.

The chicken was moist and flavorful, still very hot from the fryer. Hot enough that I had to start with a knife and fork to tear it up before I could dig in. My sides were okay. The potato salad was a mush. Pleasant flavor but no texture that leaned into mashed territory. The mac and cheese was good but overdone noodles and no "tang" from the cheese. I'd try other sides next time. Slappy's is consistently rated as a top fried chicken place in a state of great fried chicken places. The concept is top-notch and the chicken was great. When home I add a bit of diced celery, a touch of chopped onion, a bit of dill relish, some parsley, a some of my home made curry powder - damn, that rocks! This is good food, good people, and I hope folks will continue to support their efforts.
