The chicken was very good. The prices were not. Highest price chicken I've ever seen.

It didn't start well, my visit to this branch of SCNB, as the person taking my order wanted to argue with me about what the dish was called. I literally read the name of my selection off the menu board several times, and at least twice pointed out to them what I wanted on the menu board directly behind them, yet twice the guy insisted they had no such selection. Only after he confirmed with his fellow employees what I wanted would he accept my order. Jerk. What I picked: jumbo tender and barbecue plate (wish I'd taken a photo of the menu board). The order was slow to arrive, though I found out that's because the tenders were being freshly made. And the plate contained an impressive amount of food when it arrived. The barbecue wasn't bad, the chicken was indeed hot, and the slaw and potato salads were nice additions. I didn't care much for the hush puppies as they didn't seem very flavorful and were too dry. One of the other staff members was kind enough to fill my drink cup several times as I worked my way through the plate. That evening, and during the following morning, my stomach did not handle the meal well at all. I hadn't noticed any off-putting flavors in the food, but clearly something did not sit well with my digestive tract. So between the early issues with the service and the frequent bathroom visits I made in the hours following my trip to Smithfield's, I'm afraid I've gotta suggest that you look elsewhere if you are in search of a good experience in the Aberdeen/Southern Pines area. Smithfield's feels like a trip back in time. We arrived mid-day on a rainy Thursday - the day after Christmas. The front walkway had clearly just been scrubbed with a sudsy broom. Nice touch. Inside they were mopping down the kitchen - in the middle of the day! You're not gonna find that at almost any other quick service place. Employees were so friendly. The Brunswick stew is just the best. Nobody does it better. Chicken tenders are huge! One snack meal is really enough for 2/3 meals. Delicious. read more

Never had before & been wanting to try (family just relocated). Restaurant had plenty of parking, inside was clean and I appreciated the decor. Plenty of areas to wash or sanitize your hands. Customer service was good, the young man mixed our 1/2 Sweet Tea perfectly. They were out of dark meat which we found out after we ordered & sat down (kind of disappointed) - the meal itself seemed slightly pricey for what you got. One piece of chicken, with a small side-kick of a chicken part? The actual sides were decent, fries & hush-puppies were good & hot. The Potato salad & Coleslaw were pretty tasty. Lunch for 2 was over $21 and really not what we were hoping for. Be okay with not trying again except for the Tea & Pups. read more

White breast of chicken 4 stars. I love the batter. The pork bbq was very vinegary. I couldnt eat much of it. Hush puppies are horrible 1 star. Cole slaw and potato salad are 2 star at best. Cant believe no drink refills. This place has a drive thru. They also serve shrimp and fries and pecan pie. Go elsewhere unless you just want chicken. read more

Worst customer service in Moore County. What the heck is there a shortage of cocktail sauce for shrimp? People at the drive thru are real a holes. Need to not quit their other job because they obviously can't handle working a drive thru counter. And the food was the worst from a Smithfield place of any Ive ever ate at. I don't give many 1 star reviews but this place deserves it. read more

Great chain restaurant. 50's music, decent BBQ sandwich and got my hush puppy fix. Staff were so sweet and had displayed balloons and gave one to my daughter and made her day. the food was delicious and interesting but the customer service was the worst ive ever seen. the workers acted rude and annoyed with us. we asked the lady that gave us our food if we could have straws, and she scoffed and walked away. then we went through our bag and found out we needed salt and honey mustard and an extra fry that we were missing so we parked and went inside, and they gave us an attitude. we felt like an annoyance rather than a customer. We always get our fried chicken fix at Smithfields. Since there is not one near our house, any time we travel and there is one near us, we always stop in. Friendly counter service. Chatted with the guy at the register to find out he was from Charlotte NC and was headed back this fall to go to school. Also found out both he and I both fish at Lake Norman. Wife and I get the same thing each time. Her 2 pc dark with baked beans and I the 2 pc white with brunswick stew. We both love the fried chicken here. Crispy, flavorful non greasy skin with moist tender chicken inside. The eastern NC vinegar dip on the table compliments both the chicken and the stew. The sweet tea was spot on, being just sweet enough with out being so sweet as to put you in a diabetic coma. We tried the banana pudding for dessert and this is the only time Smithfields has ever failed us. This was not even close to true southern banana pudding. Just banana flavored pudding with no bananas and very, very mushy vanilla wafers. Won't ever order that again. But as far as the fried chicken goes, like I said we always stop to eat anytime we see a Smithfields in our travels. read more

I've never had the chicken - only the BBQ. And I haven't had the sandwich - only the platter. This is about the best NC (vinegar based) BBQ I've ever had. It is moist but not fatty. It is a LITTLE (not a lot) spicy, which is perfect for me but may not be for others. (Some BBQ places give you plain Q and let you make it as spicy as you want. But I like it the way Smithfield's does it, with the spice already mixed in.) This is vinegar based, not smoked. If you want smoked, go someplace else instead of giving Smithfield's a bad review because it isn't what it isn't. Also, the hushpuppies are about the best I've had - flavorful but not too dry. And the slaw is also excellent. I want to add that the one guy who left a bad review of one star, apparently because he felt it wasn't "police friendly" - what the heck is his problem? Didn't they give him enough free food, or what? read more

From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a pleasant young lady (blonde). We had tons of questions about the menu, and she was very patient. She even offered a sample. We ended up ordering the shrimp and barbecue and some chicken tenders. I added the Barbeque because she mentioned the shrimp was small, but it came with two sides and fries, so the barbecue was boxed for later. The shrimp was great. Seasoned and crispy. My husband said the tenders were so tender and juicy. The young lady checked on us a few times and offered refills. Loved the music in the lobby. Lobby and restrooms were very clean!! read more

Stopped in at a Smithfield's while on a trip, I guess this is a chain. This is fast food style service. The guy taking the order was great, even though I could only understand half of what he said. I thought I was in New Orleans for a minute instead of North Carolina. I ordered a fried chicken/pulled pork bbq combo. The fried chicken was very good. The pork was good, but the sauce was a little too heavy on the vinegar for me. I believe that's the specialty though and it's just my lame northern taste-buds. I've gotten dinner before 5 and after 8 at this location and it's always been really good. Tonight we had to wait less than 3 minutes in the drive thru and received a choice of a complimentary desert or drink. Great service, food, & friendly staff. Restaurant appears new and clean.
