I'm in town teaching a 2-day class and stopped by here for a quick lunch. It's spring break on campus so not only is it not busy with students there is a definite lack of student workers. That said, the food was prepared promptly. The hot sauce was just enough spice to make my nose run but not overwhelming the chicken flavor. I had bbq sauce instead of the white sauce. This is such a coincidence, because I know this amazing chick from Mexico, in fact you've probably seen her wearing stilettos in some of my Yelp pictures. Unfortunately I've never taken her to Chick Mex because she - like many - sees Buffalo as this place which is permanently under 7 feet of snow. Even in July. Which is basically true. What people don't realize about Buffalo (unless you already know), is that even though it's in New York, it's an 8-hour drive (cough 6 hours if I'm driving endcough) from New York City (and a very expensive one if you're foolish enough to take the Thruway the whole way). So with that in mind, perhaps it is no surprise to those in the know, that it's impossible to get a "Halal Cart" meal in these parts of the world. New Yorkers know it well: Chicken or Lamb or a Combo over rice, with a little nondescript salad, slathered in white sauce that tastes more like mayo than your Uncle's secret white sauce that he let you try in his basement that one time (and it still haunts you), and a little red sauce that tastes more like "omg my tastebuds just got shot in 1980s Brooklyn" rather than Buffalo hot sauce. Impossible, that is... until now. Yes, it's true. To my amazement, this little Tex-Mex spot is now serving up Halal food to the masses. Ask for the NY-style chicken over rice, or whatever it's called (there's a poster on the wall). I've had it 3 times now, and I'm a big fan. Really good New York style halal cart food that taste succulent and delicious and has improved a lot over the last 2 years. The owner is a pretty awesome guy and I consider him a friend of mine because he's been so nice to me when I've seen him in and around this place. He's ambitious as well and is thinking of opening more of these and some other cool stuff here and there. It's not bad at all. And if you're in love with NY Halal type food, you should try this. And there's even better versions to be had in NYC itself, so make sure you try those too. During the summer their menu is reduced, but they are open for business. It's pretty standard for fast food ambiance-wise. Plastic tables with spartan decor. I had two beef tacos. The ground beef filling was spiced perfectly. The meat was fresh and tasty. The toppings were also fresh and delectable. For dessert, I ordered a third taco. Yum. I wish they had hard shell tacos, but they offer only soft-shell. Still yummy, though. read more

I used to go here a lot. One time they fucked up my order and I tasted the issue when I put it in my mouth. I told them hey you messed up my order. Didn't know it's their policy to not redo your order if THEY messed up. They refused to redo my order because I took one bite out of the food. How would I know there's an issue with the food without tasting it? Wont go back there again and honestly wouldn't advise anyone else to go either. Walked in the restaurant with a craving for tacos. Recently I have been avoiding eating meat so I was not sure which protein choice to choose. The pescatarian lifestyle limits a lot of food options. Delightfully, Chick Mex Grill offers the fish option. Not only was I able to get the tacos that I was craving, the customer service was extraordinary! Jacob was friendly and extremely attentive to taking my order! He also recommended the fish and told me it was pretty good. I'm glad I took his advice because, the fish was impeccable. Ari also was able to provide great customer service by chopping up the fish and making the actual order. She listened to all of the condiments I wanted for my order and served it with a smile. Well. I ordered the chicken philly and was told it would be about 5 minutes. 22 minutes later my lunch date already finished her burrito bowl and no sign of a chicken philly anywhere. If it's going to take a half an hour, next time let me know. Well 45 minutes after ordering I got my sub and it was just as disappointing as the wait time. The bread was dry and hard as a rock as if they forgot about it in the toaster just as they forgot about making it in the first place. This failure to take the sub out of the toaster in a timely fashion left the cheese a little crisp. The opposite of what you would expect with a philly cheese. The fries were alright. I asked for ketchup on the side but the man behind the counter looked baffled as to why I would want "squeeze ketchup". packets are fine... I guess. They say you can't fix a bad first impression. The steak burrito bowl is a no go. The person before me got so much more meat then I did because the manager came over and told him to give less so he did and give me very little based on that. I do believe he gave too much to the person before but it doesn't mean you cut off mine that much that it was a a few pieces! It's okay, I wasn't able to finish it because I really didn't like it at all and I always finish my food. However, People said the fried chicken was good and other items. I've been a long time customer since this resturant newly opened four years ago. The food quality used to be really good I love the subs, burgers and the bowls. And I was wondering why not much ppl are visiting this restaurant more often. But Ever since this store gain its popularity fro its chicken over rice dish. Their quality of food drop significantly. They're no longer grill the halal chicken right from the grill instead store the chicken in the container for easy serve. With the popularity of the dish I somewhat understand their decision. But here comes the more negative part. For their Mexican bowl they start charging extra 50cent just for cheese add on. This is the first time I ever seen a Mexican style bowl charge extra for just cheese. Second they take down they subs and burgers from their menu, and today the only crispy chicken sandwich I like were no longer fried right before served instead were fried and stored to be ready to serve. This is the first yelp post I ever made I really hope if the owner saw this could took some consideration on improving the way they prepared their food. If you did not notice, your restaurant are slowing losing customers. I know becoming a mor if fast food style restaurant is unavoidable for a campus stall, but food quality do matters at the same time. Thanks. It was a good restaurant, when one Asian lady was working. But now the service is getting poor. Food I receive becoming less and less especially when they tried to shake the food out from the spoon while still at the same price. Their NYC gyro is as NYC as Buffalo can get and definetely beats Rachel's gyro bowl. The staff is SUPER friendly and constantly joke around with us while making their food. I have not had a bad experience with their food yet and feel I probably won't since they are pretty respectful and friendly people. Again, they are catered to students and have a bigger variety of things than Moe's on campus and a more Middle Eastern taste than Rachel's. Do not order the fish as it will take over 20 min to make also DO NOT order the sides or at least during lunch hours because the workers might accuse you that you never ordered them. If I learned anything today never give up your recipient to these workers no matter what because today I was accused of not ordering fries when I did but since they took my receipt I had to ask them to check their register for my past order. So my only advice to you is if you are going to order the sides be very careful and alert. And always remember if you are in my position tell them check the register I do not want to see anyone end up like me. I highly suggest that you take your money and go somewhere else. read more

Place is terrible. Owner is rude, the older lady that works there is rude. Charged me twice on my card because the owner swiped my card multiple times. Service was fast. Burrito was HUGE. I went during down time so there was no line. But the food still taste really fresh! Esp the chicken i would expect it to be kind of dry but it was actually really moist! They run promos everyday of the week so check that out. Horrible!!! My friend orders "Loaded Nachos" they look great in the picture - not so in real life. Worker ask if she wants cheese and puts on cold shredded mozzarella (changes her extra at the register) and a bunch of condiments. Friend has to ask, isn't there melted cheese??...... Yes, puts on 2 small scoops :( So I'm up, I first asked for a taco - no tacos available because they only have large burrito shells....
