Chickadee Hill Cakes did an amazing job making my son's 16th birthday cake, a rock climbing cake with a climber attached to the cake. I am not a touchy-feely person at all. I don't usually bother to leave reviews, but their service deserves 5 star rating and more. My son attends a boarding school far away from home, and his 16th birthday was coming up. I was searching for a bakery who would not mind delivering a cake to his school. Chickadee Hill Cakes was super nice to accommodate our needs as needed some coordination with a school dorm advisor. I appreciate not only their great service but also their CAKE... the CAKE was an amazing art piece. They went above and beyond creating this art piece -- The rock climbing cake was far better than what I captured/provided to them from Pinterest, and the climber shown in the photo has an exact t-shirt, shorts, tights, and shoes that my kid had on in the reference photo. All the details down to wrinkles on the pants... everything about this cake was just so impressive. And, further, this climber figure had such a vivid face expression with multi-colored eyes. Our family very much appreciate their creation! We also ordered cupcakes from them for dorm advisors - the cupcakes looked so beautiful as well. Thank you!

We recently hired Chickadee Hill Cakes for our October wedding and if there is a question about who you should go with - go with Chickadee Hill Cakes! No question! We live a distance from the store so we were unable to meet with the staff directly for a tasting and to come up with a design. The staff understood and had us pick out a few designs we liked. We forwarded our favorites, along with an image of our invitation and from there they whipped up an AMAZING design. We were able to have two kinds of cake with two kinds of frosting and we had literally the best wedding cake I have ever had! As the bride I am a little biased but we had over half of our wedding guests on the ride from the reception to the hotel tell us that it was absolutely the best cake they had ever had. We had some boxed up for the "after-party" but unfortunately it never made it since we descended on it during the bus ride back. The staff was also kind enough to accommodate a groom's cake that was done as a surprise for my husband as a memorial for his father who passed away a few years ago. Chickadee Hill Cakes did such an amazing job - people are still talking about how well it represented his father. I wholeheartedly recommend Chickadee Hill Cakes. Professional, delicious, well-priced, prompt in responding and did I mention, DELICIOUS!

I was very picky while hunting for a bakery to create cakes for our wedding in April of 2015. Since we decided to have several cakes (4, to be exact) and that they would be centerpieces, we really wanted them to be works of art. No offense to large bakeries, but they just pump out large volumes of baked goods and it shows in the craftsmanship. I found pictures of designs that we really liked on Pinterest, of course, and brought them to our tasting. They worked with us to make final decisions, provided suggestions, and even had us send them color swatches so that they could match the frosting exactly. The finished products were exactly what we'd asked for and they were just as delicious as they were beautiful. I would strongly encourage anyone who is planning a wedding or any other type of special occasion to hire Chickadee Hill Cakes to create you a masterpiece!

Chickadee Hill made our wedding cake and they did a phenomenal job. It was so beautiful and delicious! Highly recommend

A friend recommended Chickadee Hill to me, as I was looking for something special for my niece's 13th birthday. She and her family came to visit from out of town, on short notice, so I didn't know if I could get a cake in time that wasn't from a grocery store, as they usually like about four weeks lead time for specialty cakes. I took a chance and asked anyway; a small 6" with an equestrian theme. They said yes (yay!) and could fit it in between wedding cakes that weekend. We just went with a chocolate fudge cake (four layers of decadence!) with chocolate Italian buttercream icing between and vanilla outside. Left the decoration up to their artistic bent. Simple silhouette of a horsehead, with blue fondant polka dots all over and a lovely rope twist around the horsehead. It looked fabulous and tasted even better. I didn't think $45 to be excessive at all for their skill, creativity and customer service. Actually a shame to cut into it, but you can only deny yourself the pleasure for so long. Made a new teenager very happy! :))

Exactly what we wanted!

I included pictures of everything but as of writing the review have only (been there many times before) but have only eaten the PUC and that chocolate mousse "parfait". It's ALL SO GOOD. I wanna make this particular review about this pineapple upside down cake though. It's one of my favorite desserts and I've loved it for years. TCF's P.U.C is PHENOMENAL. It's got this delicious, dense cake that sort of crumbles under your fork, it has almost a biscuity character to it. I'm only trying to make it sound better with that description. It's moist, dense, perfect. I've had PUC where it is more of a sponge cake cake, but there's is on another level. The toppings of pineapple and cherries were equally good and the cake had an amazing caramely character to it. Also not sure if sweet/condensed milk is in the recipe, but I thought I tasted a little in the cake. It was subtle as if they poured a little on the bottom of the box before placing my cake into it. The bottom was perfectly cooked and I got a lot of caramel notes throughout the cake. It had been sitting in the box just long enough to soak up all that delicious moistness, but not so long it lost its crumble or edges. Totally bomb. Totally recommend it! I also want to mention the women that work there are our absolute favorites. We have met 3 or 4 and they are all just entirely pleasant, sweet ladies who always have an engaging story. Very nice people working hard here. I really love this place.

But now that I know they're in Salem, I'll be visiting very soon! The macarons were front and center in the booth, and I kept goggling at how beautiful they were. They are slightly larger macarons with generous fillings and bejeweled shells ($3.75 each). I asked the person manning the booth what her favorites were (sugar cookie and cookie dough), but I still had trouble deciding which to try, there were so many unique flavors. She was very helpful though. Macarons are generally gluten free, but some flavors had cookie or cake crumbs and were labeled as containing gluten (fyi all served in the same case). These macarons were certainly not dairy free, but I decided to try them anyways; they were way too tempting. The Tall Man and I ended up getting a guava and a gingerbread macaron. His dad got a pistachio and a cosmic brownie (typical brownie vs the peppermint version). If I had known he was going to get some, it would have made more sense to get a half dozen. Macarons aren't cheap cookies, but they were certainly worth it. The guava was the plainest in appearance and taste. It wasn't decorated, and only the shell was flavored not the cream; it was too subtle and could have used a jam. The gingerbread was my favorite of our choices, spicy and not overly sweet with a nice textural crunch with the mini gingerbread sprinkles. The cosmic brownie had fun chunky sprinkles and a very fudgy texture, which was more brownie than macaron like (probably intentionally), but the taste was like a typical brownie so I would get something different next time. I didn't get to try the pistachio, but my father in law enjoyed it, and he doesn't even like cookies. Everything on display was beautifully fun to look at. I was also intrigued by their hot chocolate bombs and cake jars, but more as eye candy since they were full of gluten and dairy (but would make for great gifts!).

This is the latest in a growing number of local businesses trying to capitalize on the cupcake…read morecraze. We were disappointed. The cupcakes met with mixed reviews in our group, with the general consensus being that they were nothing special. One taster described the frosting as "gritty." My biggest complaint is the price and value for money -- at $3.25 I expect a jumbo-sized cupcake; instead, they were pretty small, the same size you'd get if you made your own at home. As alternatives, I recommend Shabby Chic in Windham, and Queen City Cupcakes in Manchester.

Cupcakes 101 is our favorite and worth the extra rive time for us...make sure you try their rolo, or chocolate chocolate :) I really was hoping that we'd like the cupcakes since we live in the area and Derry Main st could have used the increased traffic a good cupcake place could bring.
