Bad Customer Service! I am disabled and don't get out much so when I can treat my wife and I, I do. I only ordered 2 things. 1 family sized gizzard's and a 4 piece perch basket. But I didn't get my fries, coleslaw, & 2 rolls. I look at the receipt and the lady rung up 4 individual pieces of perch. They don't even have single pieces like that on their own menu except for 10 pieces. The lady could not admit that she simply got it wrong and wants to argue with me. We decided to give New York Fried Chicken a try after a long drive into Grand Rapids. We got to the restaurant at about 2:15am, but didn't end up leaving until almost 3am. I ordered the 6 piece chicken tender meal and Andrew got the popcorn chicken. They were quite busy for 2am, but options were limited at that time of night. We waited inside for our food, and headed back when it came. We were both pleased with the food! It was definitely hot and fresh, but Andrew thought the chicken was a little spicy. His spice tolerance is not very high though. We both thoroughly enjoyed the sauce! Although, we didn't know it came with any so I bought 4 sides of ranch lol. Overall, it was a good experience! The fried chicken is everything you'd want it to be--crispy on the outside without being dry on the inside. We usually order chicken only and prepare our own sides at home. I've tried the french fries and mac and cheese. Both are average. It's worth a trip for the chicken. NYFC is located next to a liquor store and not in the most upscale parts of town. We love this place. Best chicken so far in GR. It is made to order so it is HOT. The soft little buns are nice, the coleslaw is excellent and the fries are pretty tasty. Throw on some of their hot sauce on your chicken and it doesn't get any better. The owner has the breading/batter dialed in for the chicken. Really good flavor. There are a ton of other dishes to order but the chicken keeps getting us. It also is very reasonable, we like the 21 piece meal: a big bang for the dollar! Our search for fried chicken ends here. The Ten Inch Long Philly Cheese Steak is excellent. Get salt for the fries if it is to go. As for the comment from Jenny K., She does not know "ghetto" so disregard that reference. This place is a one minute drive from downtown. Granted this may not be the nicest neighborhood in GR, It is far from her description. I would call it depressed, not ghetto. I grew up in Chicago, I know ghetto. Obviously she never visited Cabrini-Green... I would feel safe walking here from Fulton. Division is a very busy street with several Art Galleries and I would not be fazed on this street. However, it is creepy walking by the Churches and the Goodwill. This place is so shady. We ordered at 2am because they closed and now they only deliver. So no big deal right? After an hour of waiting, they said they would call when the driver is here, no call. So I called them and they said they will be right here at my hotel. So I went and waited for 10 minutes outside the front door. Still nothing so I called them back and they said the driver said I denied my order. I didn't see anyone come by or even close to the hotel. So he called again and said the driver will be right here. Either they don't follow simple requests, (such as not calling or texting me once in front) and always being in a negative attitude. One of the workers asked me to write my name on the receipt with a pen, but since I didn't have one, he became hostile, instead asking me to write it down with my nails. Really? My nails? I can only attest for the fried chicken. It is magic. The Burger looks underwhelming, philly looks decadently cheesed. Decent array of sauces and spices at the counter. Normal fried stuffs menu. Chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, gizzards, etc. Stick with the fried chicken. I always eat in. The culture & such is 'enriching'.. and the chicken is the best right out of the fryer (also the fries). Delivery = excellent! on time and food was hot! Got the chicken, mashed potatoes, and slaw. It was okay. The chicken was moist, the skin crispy...but what it was missing was flavor. It was run of the mill fried chicken...with some good spices, it would be amazing. Husband got the philly cheesesteak and wasn't blown away either. It also came with tomato and lettuce which was odd. I am unsure how this place can be 5-starred. I have ordered from them twice within the last 6 months (because other folks were ordering from there and it sounded better than Jimmy John's.) Both times, my order was messed up and brought late. The burger is pathetic. I got the double burger and it was so sad, I almost didn't have the heart to eat the li'l fella - but I did. And then I was the one who was sad. The gyro is ok, the chicken is "meh". The fries have the same consistency of packing peanuts. I've heard that it's better if you eat in, but I can't imagine it's THAT much better...
