I had the three piece tenders combo with french fries and a beverage. The tenders were huge and so many fries I had leftovers. I could only eat one tender. I ordered a side of coleslaw which was tasty. My husband ordered a two piece dark fried chicken meal and chicken livers. He loved it all!! They have fish also and several other sides. A cheat meal for me usually looks like.... Fried chicken. I heard Cousins was the best around so we knew we had to try them out. We ordered online on our drive over from Ionia and our food was hot and ready when we pulled up. Their online ordering system makes for a fast and convenient experience. We ordered a 9 piece mixed chicken meal and a chicken tenders meal. Sides includes hush puppies, cheese curds and French fries. The chicken tenders were a little dry which is why I take 1 star away but other than that the food was on point. Well seasoned. 30 + year customer past two visits were not what Cousins Tasty Chicken kept us coming back for. Both times pollock has been over cooked and batter seems to be heavier. On the previous take out order the pollock wasn't edible it was cooked so hard. Last night fries were not fresh, they were warm but they were tough like they had been sitting for a long time. They have pretty good food here! We often get lunch takeout here for work! The best thing they have here is the SPICY chicken tenders. It is very spicy, but it is also very juicy and tender. This is that classic fried chicken joint you see in movies and TV shows. The shop itself isn't anything special, except the fact you'll be able to smell the fried food from the parking lot. There's a few seats inside, but it's not comfortable nor welcoming, more just something they have. The service however, is extremely welcoming. They'll take care of you, get your order right, and get it out as quickly as possible. They're also quick to help you out with the menu if you're not sure what you want. But you're not here for either of those things: you're here for the chicken. And it is stellar. The fried chicken is great, the chicken tenders are phenomenal, and the sandwhich is the best fried chicken sandwhich I've ever had. Be warned that the sandwhich is just two chicken tenders between buns, so a little different than other offerings, but it is damn delicious. I haven't tried their fish offerings yet but I've heard good things. Their sides are average in taste but abundant in quantity. Some unique items are available, like their deep fried Oreo. We love finding fish fries on Fridays in Lent and we've had Cousins twice this season already! Their take out is fast and delicious...but make sure you order online early! I ordered online the first time and when I came to pick up, there was a line out the door! There really is no space to hang out - it's built for counter service but it was a cold day so everyone was (masked and) inside. They had a separate counter for order aheads which made it a little more organized, but I don't know how they keep track of everything! We ordered the scallop and perch meal. They were bay scallops with not so much scallop flavor but breading was good. Perch was not so fishy either - could be a good or a bad thing. Tartar sauce was yum. We also got the fish and shrimp family meal - that was entirely too much food for 2 people :) We got 2 plastic containers of cold baked beans. We got a Little Caesars' breadsticks size bag of fries. We got tons of perch and popcorn shrimp... lots of it ended up in the leftover bin because we could not finish it all! When I ordered this, there was an option for seasoning salt and I requested it thinking it'd be in the breading or fried in the fish, but it came in a Jell-O shot cup. To be sprinkled on top? We ended up putting those in our spice rack. Overall, tons of food for the price! The fish wasn't overly fishy. Fast service. A little too much breading for me on the fish. Fries were just fries and roll was a plain roll. Coleslaw was really good, exactly what cole slaw should taste like. Chicken was underwhelming. Breading was crispy, but seasoning was very mild on some pieces, almost non existent on others. Fast paced but good customer service, online ordering was easy, clean restroom. Okay let's start at the main attraction.... the chicken. I'm all in. Very tender. Great flavor. All around deliciousness. Mashed potatoes... eh... I'd say maybe a 3 with the gravy. Not much flavor but gravy was tasty. Corn was okay - not much flavor - another 3. Cole slaw was what I've been looking for with the creaminess and taste - 4.5. So good. Loved the potato salad - mustard based - 4. Macaroni salad was good but nothing special - 3.5. Look bottom line we will be back for the chicken hands down.. good prices, friendly service, and tasty. This is an impressive place! As I was entering the restaurant/takeout, it was a multicultural fest of fried food lovers.
