3.5 stars. A group of 6 of us came in for Sunday lunch. The restaurant is large, so it's good for big or small groups. There were lots of servers, so we were well taken care of, but I felt rushed through the meal. We had not been in before, so it took some time to decide what we wanted. The menu is a little hard to follow with some things listed on a menu board on the wall (that no one pointed out to us). The waitress came back like every two minutes asking if we were ready, so we just felt a little rushed through that process. The food itself was hit and miss. My son did not enjoy the chicken fried steak sandwich, but my other son loved his Monterey chicken. Some of our chicken strips were good and some were really tough. The fried chicken and grilled chicken sandwich were both pretty good. Overall, it was ok, but not our best meal of the trip. read more

I am discovering some excellent mom and pop cafés / restaurants around the Grand Lake area. This is one! Chicken is their name, but the menu covers everything you would expect in a small-town diner. Breakfast was our meal of choice today. They lay a plate of breakfast goodness on the table here! My usual again today, check the pictures. Everything cooked perfectly as ordered. The honorable mention awards on the plate go to the bacon and the gravy. The bacon cooked crisp, the way I like it. Not for everyone's taste; it works for me. This was crisp bacon, country smoke house thick cut. Sturdy and crisp enough that I could use it as a knife cut the eggs up. Or maybe even use it to butter toast. Yeah, I liked it. The gravy appears to be real, homemade. If it was a mix, then the cook gave it some extra love with sausage drippings. It was good. A big clean restaurant, Excellent friendly service. Easy access. Today's Café table top advertisement winner is Larry's Body Works. Not an especially creative or catchy ad, but I liked the picture of Larry's Rat Rod! read more

Absolutely terrible service, waited almost an hour for our food with the place half empty. Never once had a waitress refill our drinks or come to check on us. We heard the waitress ask the table behind us not to leave that their food would be out soon; they were waiting longer than us. That same waitress as heard cussing a lot about customers. I kept searching Yelp, thinking these reviews can't be for the place we had breakfast. Let me cut to the chase: I ordered "an egg" pointing to the menu. Pretty sure the owner was our waitress. I rec'd 2. The gravy was wallpaper paste w/ ungodly chunks of sausage in it. Biscuit was cold, certainly not fluffy, more compressed, heavy. Sausages were hockey pucks, tomatoes (requested) not ripe (hard). Waitress explained they cannot baste eggs, but she'd ordered them cooked whites, runny yolk. That's all I ever want and, actually they did a fairly decent job of it. Let me address complaints in other reviews and what I surmised from our visit. I'm pretty sure the guy who complained about the "older" waitress was the owner. She was lovely. Probably no one ever orders 1 egg as I did or the kitchen got it wrong. All the waitresses were busy, pleasant. The wait: yea, ours reflected the others. BUT we were there at the end of breakfast, lunch was ramping up. I'll cut them some slack & when the food was delivered and we said thanks, the waitress said, laughing, "Well you waited long enough for it!" So maybe the food would've been better if we'd been there earlier. The waitress warning of upcoming crowds: I know this was viewed as an excuse, but she knows of whence she speaks. When they're hit, they're hit! We witnessed it with jaws dropped. Church let out and in this vast dining room, they were scrambling for seats, literally pulling chairs to table ends. And they were there for fried chicken. Will we go back? Heck yea. I want some of that fried chicken. read more

Dining at the Chicken Coop is always a test of patience. They have good food but it takes a long time to get it. The waitress told us and the tables around us during our meal "give me your order and I will get it in before the big group". I'm not sure if this was being helpful because it took the four of us 30 minutes to get our food and I never identified a big group. The Chicken Coop Restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside. Peeling paint, faded sign, you get the picture, but it is a very popular place and breakfast and lunch. Had a group go there today and we ordered off both the breakfast and lunch menu. Omelets were decent size and everyone seemed to enjoy them. Sandwiches were also decent, but not necessarily anything to go out of the way for. Several comments about how good the beans and rice were. Excellent comfort food at very reasonable prices. Three pieces of fried chicken with three sides was less than $7.00. My husband said the chicken was the best fried chicken he has had in a long time. I had an open-faced roast beef sandwich that was very good. I will definitely stop here again if I come through Langley again. Note: signs say they are moving to a new location soon. This is a delicious place to have some good comfort food. We usually go for Sunday lunch and have the fried chicken special for $6.75. It comes with 2 pieces and 3 sides and a roll. The breading is crispy but light and the chicken is very juicy. Friday night is prime rib night. It's $19 but comes with a large salad and a choice of potato and a roll. They also have a horseradish cream. It is delicious! Lots of flavor. Picture is cooked medium. Don't leave without dessert. Homemade pies and cakes are yummy! 4 stars because its very dated. This place is surprisingly good! They are open for breakfast and lunch daily, and dinner on Friday night only. We went for dinner and I ordered Country Fried Steak. It was really good! Definitely hand-battered, real mashed potatoes, and very good gravy. I also got a house salad, and was surprised to learn that they make their own blue cheese & ranch dressing. My husband and I stopped in here for breakfast the Thursday before Memorial Day. We had eaten at the original Coop during the years of being boaters and enjoyed the food but it was very loud inside. They have moved to a new location so we thought we'd visit. We both ordered eggs over medium, sausage and a singe biscuit and gravy. I never thought you could ruin breakfast but this was the worst we had ever had. When the waitress delivered the food she put the plates down, we said thank you. She did not asked if we needed anything walked away and never came back to check on us. There were about 6-8 tables of people. Bland eggs, bland sausage and gravy that was like thick greasy brown flour. Will never go back and will not tell people to. read more

This was recommended to us after our Pensacola Dam tour, and OMG! These other reviews on here aren't lying!! It's a small Mom & Pop restaurant, and we had gotten there before the lunch rush. The place was packed, but service wasn't slow at all. The prices are so reasonable, that it puts some other places we've been to-to shame! The servings are very large, and I loved every bite, but probably should have gotten a smaller plate. I looked the menu over to see prices, and also watched what others were getting. Nothing there was sparce on the plates. I had the chicken dinner, and that chicken is the best fried I have had in a very long time. It's not dried out, freshly fried, and everything was hot. I had the 3 piece white meat chicken dinner, fries, cottage cheese (instead of the salad), and a dinner roll. $8.25. I guess my eyes were bigger than my belly.
