Hubby made reservations midweek for Friday. He said even then there was not a lot of choice. This place is always busy. Well, it is tiny. Having been there before I thought the owner seemed a little "off" upon arrival. Not the kind, caring, friendly gent I remembered. The main dining room was packed. We were seated in the "walk through" room -- all traffic from kitchen, arrivals and bar passes through here. But we could not be seated until the owner pulled the table out of the corner, away from the wall. Thank god I'm small as even I could barely squeeze in. A kid (young boy) delivered the crackers and cheese dip. Really good. But he tried to take it away before we were finished. He confided in me he'd been working there 3 weeks. Our waitress feigned friendliness. (I overheard her complaining to the barmaid) Nor was she happy when I inquired about the "cracker crusted" shrimp. I was torn between that entree and grilled shrimp. She pushed in that direction however. Then I asked if anything was included with the entrées as the menu doesn't say so and neither did she. She did, however, offer us tabouli and cabbage rolls left over from the night before. Leftovers? Ah, no. Since we'd read reviews while driving we knew we wanted the blue cheese salad. Everything about it was wonderful. The almond slivers on the cucumber, the abundance of blue cheese. (Debra K. mentioned the toasted almonds. Ours were not) But here came the waitress and busser with our entrées before I could finish it. I hate that more than anything! They call this fine dining? I surrendered my salad. Their whole fried potatoes are unique and tasty. Hubby enjoyed his ribeye. And the rolls, until the kid, again, tried to take them away. "Quit taking our food," I teased. They tuck a packet of roasted garlic in every 2 roll basket which is nice. I had to flag the waitress down to order a second glasss of wine. Love the art on the walls and actually recognized a couple local artists. I'd had enough blue cheese, I wasn't allowed a second to rest between courses and only ate a couple Ritz coated shrimp. And that yummy potato. FYI: the cocktail sauce is better w/ the fried shrimp than the tartar. Toward the end, the wife owner was waiting 2 tables beside us. I know because I heard her say "I cooked for you". She seemed sweet and made all the dishes sound delicious. I think some of us feel let down by The Artichoke because we remember the hype from back when. And it was better when patronized before. And they call it fine dining which it isn't. It has so much going for it -- the setting, the quaintness, chef owned, a controlled menu, herbs and produce nearby I recall from before --I'd love to see it better. And it could be. Just a tip. The Farmers Market is open (as of this past Saturday). We were able to buy some Artichoke hummus (FANTASTIC) and some spicy green chile tamales from another vendor. Open every Saturday morning. Worth stopping---especially for lake supplies. read more

One of the most outstanding meals we ever had which includes the finest restaurants in Tulsa! From the exquisite appetizers, the salads, the entrees and dessert, I found no fault! Attended the reopening Friday night and the food and service were very good. All ladies received a red rose upon being seated. Menu had few new additions, but the mushrooms were missing. Overall a positive experience after the Fathers Day storm that damaged the roof. read more

We were staying at a cabin near by and saw this place open. We stopped in to grab some dinner and didn't know it was more of a " reservation" place. But the hostess and Jim were so kind and was able to some move things around and find us seat for dinner. Crab cakes were thick and perfectly cooked, the sauce they put on top I wish I could bottle that. It had the perfect flavor and heat to it. The fish was cooked great and not over done. Loved the setting of the place and how friendly everyone was. Next time we are in town we will have dinner here again, but will make sure to call in the reservation ahead of time. read more

Dined with four for our anniversary. The Artichoke never disappoints and Jim is always around overseeing everything and answers the most obscure questions like where do you get your beef. The salmon and steaks were heavenly. They had a neat green cocktail which was Midori and Champagne with a sugar rimmed glass. The wine selection is good, too. **************** Six of us dined at this restaurant. Our reservation was at 7 pm. We were offered drinks quickly and our crackers and herb spread were on the table when we arrived. Service was slower than normal and picked up at the end. We ordered an artichoke appetizer and much to my dismay they did not have any available. My hubby and I shared our meal. We had Caesar salad, steak with crab on it. What a great dining experience!!! Every aspect of the meal was excellent. From the friendly greeting at the door, to the outstanding waitress Dianna, also the bartender Rebecca recommend my new favorite bourbon, Weller 12 year old. We shared the grilled artichoke, it was amazing, the lemon and butter added the perfect compliment. We also split the Boston salad, blue cheese dressing was excellent. For dinner we split the cracker crusted shrimp with grilled asparagus. My wife raved about the home made cocktail sauce. A nice surprise when headed to Ketchum for a high school sporting event. Crab cake appetizer was good - the homemade blue cheese dressing delicious. The steak oscar was cooked a perfect medium! I live in South Texas, but my husband and I visit family in the Grand Lake area at least twice a year. We truly CRAVE this place and greatly look forward to coming when we are in town. This is one of my most favorite restaurants of all time. From its quaint and beautiful old home building to the impeccable paintings that line the walls, the atmosphere of The Artichoke is elegant and comfortable. The staff is always excellent and kind. Because this place is so good and the area it's in is somewhat remote compared to Tulsa and other big urban cities, it gets busy quick. I strongly recommend making reservations to be sure you get in. They have a variety of specials that change often and a soup of the day that also changes. I've gotten seafood entree specials and beef entree specials and they have always been amazing! Their soup is awesome too- my favorite that I've had is their fisherman's stew. It has the perfect kick and does not have a overwhelming fish taste, but it's just right. Their steak soup is to die for and is always available. It's creamy and savory and I promise you have never tasted something like it before. It's a must! They serve bread and butter before the meal and it comes out with butter and roasted garlic that you can spread on your bread. Both are always a yummy combo to start off the meal. They also have house made dip that is somewhat like a spinach artichoke dip and is served cold with crackers. Also quite delicious! My go-to is the ribeye, cooked medium rare. Their steak butter is delicious and their seasonal veggies are homegrown and always fresh. Seriously amazing! You won't find a restaurant in the area like this and it is flawless. This place is fantastic! We try to eat here when ever we come to the lake. It is in a older farm house with pictures from local artists in each room. The food is absolutely wonderful with the steaks cooked to order and cooked perfectly. My wife ordered the shrimp stuffed with crab meat and it was great. We have never had a bad meal here and the wait staff is friendly and will help you with the menu. We love this place and will definitely be back. read more

This was our first and last time at the Artichoke since Jim and Dianna left. It was my wife's 70th birthday. We had a 7:30 reservation for 06-16-23. We arrived right at 7:30, walked in, gave them our name and told them we had a 7:30 reservation. They said it would be just a minute, go ahead and take a seat. A little later, another couple walked in and gave their names and said they had a 7:45 reservation. The girl picked up two menu's and said okay, follow me. A tall man that had been up front previously asked if we had been helped. I replied yes, but I am a little confused. We had 7:30 reservations and you seated a couple with 7:45 reservations. His response: "I will check in to it". No sorry, no apology, nothing. He was gone for quite a while and never came back. We got up and left--never to return again. It appeared that what once was a quiet, enjoyable, and relaxing place to eat has turned into utter chaos. The staff was running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Definitely poor management. To top it off, when we got home, we had a "reservation canceled" notice on my computer. Today is the 22nd and I have not heard anything from anyone. SO GOOD! We are staying at an Airbnb, so the host recommended it to us! So glad we were able to go for a date night! All of the food from the crackers/dip, to the artichoke and the main entrees, were all delicious! Our server was very sweet, and the owners also came by to check on us! We will definitely be back! I live nearby and have been wanting to try this place for a while. I was just waiting for the right people to go with me--my darling husband-to-be is not as pumped about trying new or interesting restaurants as I am. I invited my foodie uncle and his foodie wife to drive over from Tulsa for the afternoon, and we are glad we ended our fun day together with a lovely meal at The Artichoke. We got there at about 5:30 on Tuesday (they open at 5) and were immediately seated in the dining room. The decor and atmosphere are not atypical for the area--wall art, curtains, floor, and tables are geared more towards the 50+ crowd, but I'm not saying that in a bad way at all. After all, they do keep a pair of reading glasses on each table so clearly they know their typical demographic. ;-) The server was helpful and efficient throughout our meal. I liked her. I liked her, and the way she handled my slightly nutty Greek family. :-) We started with a bottle of wine and the artichoke. The artichoke comes with yummy garlic butter and a lemon wedge, and we also asked for a side of mayo, which may sound absolutely disgusting, but it's the way our family has been doing artichokes for years and it is indeed delicious. The complimentary spinach artichoke dip that comes with tiny toasts was very good as well. Perfect size for sharing a couple bites. We each started out with Caesar salads ($7-ish). They seemed very fresh and had the perfect number of croutons. I don't like it when there are too many croutons! The dressing was very good but a little heavy handed on the amount for my uncle and me. My aunt loved it, though. Practically licked her plate clean. My aunt and uncle each had the crab legs special. They each ate the heck out of it and said it was very good. Come to think of it, they didn't offer me a bite so it must have been good enough not to want to share. They did share their side of mushrooms, though, which were buttery and pretty good. The asparagus side was classic and cooked just right. I ordered the artichoke (!!!) ravioli appetizer for my entree. It was pretty good. The creamy sauce was a bit too rich for me, but it had a very nice flavor. If I didn't have to squeeze into a wedding dress next month, I probably would have used the bread (very good--comes before the meal), smeared some of their yummy roasted garlic on it, and dipped it in the sauce. The number of raviolis was perfect for a main course. Not too much, and at $7-ish, I felt like I got a good deal. I really want to go back and try the salmon (if it's wild-caught--I didn't ask) when I have some extra going-out money. I think it was $17 which really I don't mind paying if it's good salmon. Like I said, I live on the south side of the lake, so I'm pretty pumped that this place is only a couple miles from me and has good food and service. I'll happily add it to my list of places to take friends and family when they visit. read more

Went to Grand lake for a weekend fishing trip with my husband. While on the phone with a guy that lives there he recommend my husband take me there and after a long day of fishing I was down for trying the place. Husband was skeptical but we both LOVED the food. They have glasses on every table just in case anyone forgets theirs and cannot see the menu. There was a plate of toast & crackers wit what I'm assuming was an artichoke dip that was amazing. I've never been a big mushroom person but the owner suggested the stuffed mushrooms and said I needed to at least try one, and knowing my husband loves mushrooms was willing to give them a try. I could have eaten them ALL! They were AMAZING! Salad was great, I had blackened chicken and it was so moist and flavorful! I would go back the next day if I were there. It really is a 5 star restaurant coming from this picky eater! read more
