food the restaurant is buffet style, with one buffet bar in the room where our party sat and another, to the right from the entrance, that i did not raid, pun intentional, for the locals. nevertheless, the buffet bar in the room where we sat was plentiful and bountiful, and transitioned smoothly from the salad bar half to the main course food items. i got a plate and started eating fairly early upon getting to the table, but the two plates stacked at each place on the table helped me pace the meal, first with a course from the salad bar portion, then moving to the main course items, and dessert, obviously, a favorite of the auntie ma among our group. so, in order, i got a salad bar plate including a family favorite, beets, a main course plate with influence from lunch conversation and personal fav, chicken of the southern fry variety, and drumstick and thigh variations. and then, a generous half, including a perfectly flaky crust, also of a light texture. service the service was really good, with the two workers who served our table both displaying excellent service and customer interaction skills, and the worker at the register maintaining a steady flow in the waiting area up front. ambiance continuing from the service section, the steady flow of customers is especially significant considering the location of a spacious gift shop just past the waiting area, which has a limit on space and seating, and of which includes fashionable clothing as well as snazzy knickknacks, and what have you. i'm also appreciative of the tasteful you of chinaware dishes, which as i mentioned to a unky of mines, the restaurant uses practically as well by stacking 2 at each place to pace the meal in courses. read more

Wonderful buffet...great value, good food, cheerful service...we came in starved, left stuffed and satisfied. Momma said the chicken noodle soup rocked..taking her work since I'm allergic. I had chicken fried steak and ham...with smashed taters, yams, Mac'n cheese, fried cabbage/onions and fresh baked rolls...topped of with a slice coconut cream pie...although their were a LOT of dessert options. Decor is a bit dated...but it matches the name.... I have yet to taste decor, so it doesnt bother me at all. Small boutique when you come in...lots of fun gifts, clothing, jewelry... We stopped in after a weekend of camping...the Sunday after church crowd was finishing up, and we came in...tired, dirty, smelling like campfire...and we were welcomed like we were family...maybe the stinky side, but family none-the-less.. My wife and I stopped here several years ago. So we had to stop again while in the neighborhood. Things have changed very little over the years. There is plenty of parking. The restaurant is designed to look like a Victorian house. The decor inside also reflects the Victorian era. This is a buffet style restaurant. With a nice salad bar. The buffet is well maintained. The food is American style. You won't find half empty trays of food that have been on the buffet for too long. The service was friendly, efficient and professional. I hadn't been to Country Cottage in many years and had been told it was better than ever. We had a basketball in Locust Grove and took the chance to give it a try while there. Let me say it did not disappoint! The fried chicken was some of the best I had ever had! It looks like a an old family home and is welcoming. They do have a menu for those that don't want to eat off the buffet which my son did. Next time he said he will be eating the buffet because he said ours looked so good and he is 10. Country cottage is one of NE Oklahoma's best kept secrets. It's family owned and operated, and it's the best home cookin' ever. You can order from a menu, but the buffet is incredible. They have different themed options each day, but they always offer fried chicken and chicken fried steak. I tried some of the Mexican choices on the Friday buffet at lunch, and it was delicious too. I've never had a bad bite! It's all so good. Wait staff are nice and attentive. And the inside is decorated just like grandma's cottage. The desserts are amazing, and they have a huge selection. Stood leaning against the wall talking to one lady for almost 15 minutes. First, GO! Good food and good service. Met the in-laws and other relies here for lunch. When we got there the place was decorated for Christmas and gave you a very homy feeling. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by every staff member we saw and they seemed to go out of their way to make us feel welcome. Once seated our server was immediately there. She was very friendly & personable. Once our drinks were ordered we had a set of nice plates on the table to choose from. And not some regular restaurant style plates either. Rather they seemed sort of like something you'd see in your grandma's kitchen that she would bring out for guests. They were pretty nice plates. Anyway, we walked up to what we thought was the main buffet only to find out it was the 2nd one, that was smaller, but had some food there. After seeing the main one who had was double the size, the small one seemed like a it was just added as a nice gesture. But I digress. Prior to our attendance at the Cottage, we cheated and looked up a Youtube video about the place. Our take away from that was that they were known somewhat for their Country fried steak & fried chicken. So it was obvious what I was looking for when I got there. They were both really good. I think most of our family responded more to how much they enjoyed the country fried steak than the chicken but we all agreed the chicken was good too. I also had some grilled chicken strips and they were delicious. While the line at the buffet was decent it moved along at a steady and easy pace. They seemed to keep every thing pretty clean which was probably pretty easy as they replaced trays often. As I started to get towards the dessert side of the buffet there was a lady waiting who said they were getting ready to bring out grilled pork tenderloin. I didn't take it due to the amount I already had but my wife had some and her words, "amazing." Everything I had was good. Cornbread with turkey dressing, chicken, seasoned red potatoes, country fried steak, gravy all just worth the trip. Desserts did not disappoint either. And tons to choose from. We had been once about 3 yrs ago, and again Tue evening. We had good memories about our first visit several years ago, but not this time. None of the 3 of us thought the buffet items looked very good, and the entire dining area was very worn down and dirty. Waitress could only find one filthy greasy menu for us to order from.... Obviously most people pay the $13 for the all you can stand to eat buffet. Two of our party got chicken Caesar salads and while not bad. It certainly wasn't good, the Romain lettuce was not cold, and the Caesar dressing was something cheap out of a bottle. I got a chicken fried steak sandwich, and the pathetic little chicken fried steak patty was obviously something that had been frozen and thrown in a microwave before being slapped on the Texas toast. It was barely edible. Low rating is mostly for the cleanliness of the place. Won't be going back. But if you like all-u-can eat buffets, you still might like the place. Locust grove is so lucky to have this place! Such a cool restaurant to take a trip to enjoy. We found this place on yelp and decided to take a road trip and try it. This restaurant looks like it was built into an old house and felt like you are enjoying a family dinner. Once you walk in, they have their own shop with assorted items from clothing to toys. There was no disappointment in the food or the service. All of the food is homemade and fresh on the buffet line (yes, this place is a country cooking buffet!) and was so delicious. There is a salad bar and a dessert bar with many choices. The Swedish meatballs were sooo good, and the fried chicken tastes like my grandma made it! We drove 40 minutes to visit Country Cottage for lunch today and we were not disappointed. They were busy but not crowded. Staff was friendly and attentive, kept our ice tea filled. Very reasonably priced for delicious home-style cooking, $25 for two. We will definitely be back! A nice selection of salads, main course, vegetables and desserts. Fried chicken was tendered and delicious. Smoked pulled pork also perfectly cooked. Of course as I tend to do at buffets, I ate too much! This used to be the great place to eat up until our last visit. The restaurant is now charging a fee to use credit or debit cards. When I went to the buffet there wasn't any chicken fried steak just an empty pan. Generally staff are very good about replenishing the food but not this time. I waited around awhile hoping some chicken fried steak would come out. When I ask one of the staff members about the chicken fried steak not being on the buffet she kinda shrugged and said but we have chicken over there. I waited a while longer and saw some things that made this my last visit. A staff member brought out a fresh pan of gravy. She picked up the pan present on the steam table, emptied it into the fresh pan, stirred it a bit and put the pan on the steam table. While I waited hoping some chicken fried steak would arrive I watched several other items on the steam table where a remaining portion was mixed into a new portion. A new pan of chicken was brought out and I watched as the items left on the steam table were put in the front of a fresh pan. I stood waiting for the chicken fried steak to come out for quite awhile. In addition to seeing older item from the steam table mixed in with fresh items I never saw any of the staff use a thermometer to check the temperature of the food. I did witness fresh salad dressing brought out and again the salad dressing that was on the buffet table was emptied into the new container and mixed in with the spoon by the staff member. Who knows how many times today this has happened. My previous visits I had not seen the mixing of fresh items with items that were on the steam table. This is a way for customers to get very sick. We love a buffet and we're not even that old! Anyway let me tell you about the fried chicken!! The breading was light, crispy, and fresh, and inside was tender moist chicken. Really took me back to my grandma frying chicken in her cast iron skillet. Yummy! The rolls were divine, as were the mashed potatoes, cheesecake, and homemade blue cheese dressing (creamy, garlicky, and mild). We even bought some to go! Those things were exceptional and everything else i had was really good.
