I am a huge Chicken Express fan! I have never really had an issue with any of the other locations across the state when I visit them. I typically plan to stop at a Chicken Express when traveling because all of the locations in Houston are in the suburbs and not truly convenient for those of us who live in the city limits. I was traveling to Jefferson, TX from Houston on Friday, May 8, 2026. My grandmother had passed way the week before and I was coming home to lay her to rest. I was not in the best of spirits and had not been eating much. I skipped breakfast this morning and decided to do a late lunch at Chicken Express to boost my spirits. I stopped around 2:30pm. The line was about 4 cars deep. The person who took my order at the speaker was the typical Chicken Express friendly and made sure I got everything ordered correctly. Things changed when I pulled up the window. When I get there Christina opens the window and just stares at me. After about 5 seconds of us simply looking at one another, I finally say "Hello. How are you?" since she wasn't. She says "Hi. You total is..." I ask her if they have tap to pay. She says "no" flatly. I say "Oh ok." and had her my card to pay. She takes it and after the transaction hands it back. She gets the food and hands it to me. No here you, thank you, have a great day, nothing. No soft customer service skills at all. While I understand this is not standard anymore and a reflection of company values and standards, it truly disappointing. I emailed the location about the experience and apparently it is not worth a response. Definitely disappointing. Definitely feel this location is a major no go. Might as well go to Golden Chick next door. Same thing but better service. read more

We were in town to visit Caddo Lake State Park the following day. It was already late in the evening. Our original dinner plans had already gotten canceled. At that point, we just needed something quick, filling, and affordable. Chicken Express was the answer! Part of what drew us in was the fact that they were offering a special. Six rolls, green beans, mashed potatoes, and six pieces of fried chicken all for about $20. What a deal! We waited for about five minutes in the drive thru and got our order. Honestly, we did not know how much food was in the deal since the advertisement didn't specify the amount. We were pleasantly surprised once we were handed our order. Once we got back to our hotel room, we tried everything. The mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls were standard. The fried chicken, though, was easily the star of the show. The exterior was crunchy and the meat was juicy and moist. Plenty of flavor. For a family of three, we could not finish all of the food. All in all, considering the value and the tastiness of the chicken, I believe that this was a phenomenal value! read more

My family lives in Longview, Texas. The past few years, we have made it a tradition to go to Wonderland of Lights in Marshall with our kids and grandkids and then eat at Chicken Express....the Friday after Thanksgiving Last night, we did the same thing. We arrived at 7:10 pm only to find all chairs on the tables. I asked if they were about to close (since it says open until 10:00 p.m.) and they said, no they were open. So, we put 3 tables together (there were 13 of us) and the young man took our order. There was no ice in the drink station and both tea dispensers had BLEACH WATER in them. So, they had to get our tea from the drive thru area. Our chicken was ok, but semi-warm. My mashed potatoes were cold. We got no utensils and napkins and had to hunt them down. We fed 13 people and it was like it was an inconvenience for them.........3 HOURS BEFORE CLOSING!!!! Wonderland of Lights is a big deal in Marshall and they could have a booming business. As I was leaving, I asked to buy a gallon of sweet tea and unsweet tea to bring home. They said they had no unsweet tea. The experience was awful and I will never be a customer at this location again. They acted like they didn't care and should NOT have been "closed" (no ice, tea, tables with chairs on them, etc.) THREE HOURS before closing on a holiday Friday night. Absolutely ridiculous service. First, the dining room is still closed. Second, we tried to order fish in the drive thru. Person on other side of the speaker said we could but it would be more than a 10 minute wait. As we are traveling with a dog, and have quite a ways to go still, we opt for just already prepared chicken. We order our food and there is one pickup at the window , one car behind it, then us. 9 minutes later, the pickup finally gets their food. ( They/CX) did not have customer pull out of the driveway and wait like EVERY OTHER fast food restaurant does. The car between us gets their food immediately and leaves. We pull up and of course I am angry because I obviously could have ordered fish at this point and dealt with the wait. We get our food, I check it because it's a drive thru and that's what you have to do for obvious reasons. No napkins, salt or silver ware. Glad we looked because eating the mashed potatoes without utensils would have not been pleasant. As it turns out though, it probably would have been easy since they were cold and gravy congealed. The jalapeno pepper we received was not even a single inch long. Usually a place will give you two when they are small, not here. I've been to plenty of CX to know this is not the norm,., So this one gets the one star review. read more

Poor service. We place order at drive thru, order 3 pc chicken combo and 4 tender combo. We proceed to the drive window and was told there will be a 5 minute on chicken- which we should have been told when placing the order; not to mention we saw numerous of cars leaving due to long wait time. We finally got home to realize the order wasn't right. This has happened to us twice- worse service ever. We're never going back. I'm being nice giving 2 stars the people and employees were nice but the chicken is dry. It's like since the new owners from the ones that opened the location are cheap. The chicken is over cooked and the grease doesn't look or taste as if it has been changed regularly. It's a shame how management can ruin a business. Some of the employees were dancing in front of the food behind the counter where customers could see it all. Very disappointed overall. read more

Location, location, location. Any time you set up show at the intersection of two highways, you should do alright. Again, this is a dine-in fast food chain and not a five-star restaurant like others seem to be expecting. I enjoyed it. It's good to see new businesses in Marshall. read more

The worse service ever the day after Christmas, ordered 8 legs family meal and received 4 breasts and 3 legs and tried to exchange, only to get the same pieces from the manager. Prices are too high for the quality of cooking. Customer service was the worse with the manager and short staffed on that 26th of dec. would not recommend. read more

Every time I come to this location I get the worse service and the worse food. My tenders are never how I expect them to be. The customers never know why they are doing and I'm waiting 30-45 minutes just to get my food, even though there's no one else in line. Fix it chicken express! read more

Typical light crust fried chicken. The chicken meat itself was juicy and well seasoned, but really, what you want is that crispy crunch of the crust. Well this crust was more on the soft crunch, a very floury tasting crust. I will say though, that the livers and gizzards are spot on, the livers had a great crust, and we're juicy and tender. The gizzards were succulent, not those hard rock-like things you get at some other places. Being a brand new facility, will give it another shot, perhaps they were having a bad crust night when we were there. read more

The fish was just okay the 1st time we got it but looked better the 2nd time when we got the chicken. Fried pickle slices are bland and boring. Macaroni and cheese and the mashed potatoes are okay. It was not a heaping serving of macaroni like on the picture. At our last visit we ordered a 4 piece number 1 and they gave us 6 pieces each which was nice. Atmosphere is okay, small but okay. The parking lot out front will blind you unless you are wearing a blast shield. Price was excellent! Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Coke and their sweet tea make the drink selection for us one of the best around. Service gets a +0.5 for their speed and bringing it out to you. We will go back. It is good. Stopped by on a 2 hour trip to my mother in laws to bring her lunch and ordered 15 tenders W/gravy and a large okra to the tune of $26.72 only to get to her house 20 miles and realize there was NO gravy! So I called and their solution was for me to drive back and get it (40 miles round trip) OR that they could give me the gravy (only) the next time I'm in town! Not impressed. The food was mediocre, the service polite but not impressive, the restaurant was very clean and the staff cleaned the entire time we were inside eating. The worst part was the smell! My first visit was my last because the inside smelled like rotten chicken and bleach and they had not even been open a month. read more

This is probably the worst Chicken Express I've been to in regards to service. While I, and many of the people in Marshall, we're excited to learn of the arrival, I have had more bad experiences than good. Tonight I decided that since the manager on duty, Atoya, could not be concerned with the service or provide me with a customer line and or head manager number, which I requested, that I would voice said concerns on Yelp. I waited 15 mins for 2 meals that were to include 7 chicken tenders, fries, okra, and a roll. When I received the meals, with no apology for the wait, the fries were cold and the rolls were burnt. When I brought this to her attention, she replied that all the rolls looked that way and that they could drop more fries. Needless to say this would mean the rest of my food would sit and get cold during this time. There was not even an offer of a drink for my extended wait. I proceeded to ask for the managers info, since the one on duty was not courteous enough to return to the window and apologize, and was simply given a menu with the regular store number listed on it. Had this been the first concern with this location, I would not be writing a location and possibly not even known that I had subpar food, but as I stated initially, there have been other issues. On more than one occasion I have gotten home or down the road and realized I was missing a side. When I call, I'm always given the option to return and get said side, of course still leaving me in the predicament I was in tonight, with cold food or to return to the location on another day to get okra/fries/corn nuggets a la carte. I was once told by another manager that they really couldn't do anything about the concerns, but take it out of the employees pay, as if it doesn't mean that the "responsible" manager should just do a better job in training the employees. I hope this review is helpful to someone, in particular, that the manager sees it and does figure out a better training method and/or improved checks and balances. read more

We had overnight guests and my hubby wanted their gizzards. I got their fish, I cannot eat wheat flour. I loved he fish and returned to get part of the order that was missed about a week layer. The fish the second times was much better. Golden fried the second time, inconsistent cooking between shifts. Still very very good. Their cole slaw is the best I have had in a long time from fast food places. Our guests loved their chicken, this was their first time eating Chicken Express, I/we will continue to get their food. They went out of their way to make up for the missing meal. Very satisfied with their food and customer service. read more
