Also known to us as the "Scarf and Barf" or the "Binge and Purge"....our alternate titles reflect no qualms against the quality of food here. One does not go here for quality necessarily but rather quantity. There seems to be a constantly changing assortment of motley characters who are regulars. Our favorite item to watch is the chocolate fountain. We watched a child put chocolate on his carrots. How can you not like that? The setting is typical for any fast food type buffet. Most of the choices are good but you can find much better of everything you try here in Marshall but if you want to eat it all at the same time, like say cheese enchiladas with your steak and spaghetti and stir fry, then this is your place! read more

After the remodel, this place is extremely nice and clean and so friendly. The food was mostly great- had fried fish, roast beef, BBQ chicken and all were excellent. I'm truly amazed that these places have stayed open. They were never good but barely decent or at least that's what I thought until I went to this one. This place was simply terrible in every way possible and no one seems to care fact works there in management. I used to love going here as a kid but now it has lost what little bit of luster it once had which is a true shame. The staff treat you like you're the enemy and that's not how that's supposed to go at all. If you don't like your job then quit! The day we had lunch here it's pretty crowded. They also have lots of choices, lots of desserts and salads. Plenty of meat choices as well. The restaurant and the restrooms were clean. The staff was friendly, nice and attentive. read more

It is what it is...there is enough food to find something to eat that you like. I would not eat here by myself, but trying to satisfy a family on a trip it is easy. Have eaten here twice and both times about the same....BUT I would not eat here in evening or weekend again as the prices are higher but they don't add enough value to warrant that. The fried chicken is for some reason always better than most, I like the veggies and my son like the new cotton candy machine (the staff hates making it, so you will have to hunt someone down). Just like the Thanksgivings at Grandpa's house when I was a kid. Good start. I turned the corner and traveled to the Deep South. Chicken friend steak, fried catfish, okra, and pan baked cornbread. My family ate here four years ago during a roadtrip. We liked the vast selection of mostly delicious food and dessert. However, our waitress was the worst waitress we've ever had and only came by a few times while she attended to the couple sitting next to us most of the time. We've always tipped fairly, but this is the only time we tipped unusually little (less than $1) because we were furious with the lack of attention. I'd definitely come here again but I'll make sure I don't sit in the area that waitress is assigned to. The price is very cheap. When my girlfriend and I refer to this place, we informally call it the "slop chute." And that's pretty accurate. Large quantities of indifferent quality food arranged in a helter skelter manner. I claims to be a steak house. Don't be confused. It's a bad buffet restaurant. You pay when you come in -- a flat price as best I gather, and then go get your food. Yes, they do have "steak". It's small quantities of larger steaks that they will carve off a few bites for you. I suppose that you could come back for more, but I've never had a piece that I thought was good enough to want more. Expect well done to dominate. On those occasions I've asked for something rare or medium rare, the carver looks stumped. But fear not!! They have friend chicken, baked chicken, etc. So maybe it's a home cooking restaurant? Well, I'd leave home if this was the daily fare. But wait!! Like Ronco, "There's more!" They have Mexican Food. Don't like it? We'll make it two for one and give you Chinese food, too. You get the idea. If you hunt long enough, you can generally find something fit to eat, but it's lots of work. You might think that veggies would be a good bet in this type of place. Think again. They're not. The salad bar COULD be the one redeeming thing about this place. Lots of options, and who could screw up salad? Well . . . . Yep, they could. Some times it OK. Other times, I'll find slimy tangles of rotten lettuce in my salad greens. Partially in their defense, I'd give the place one and a half stars if I could. You can find something to eat, as Glenn M pointed out. But you really to have to hunt carefully for it. And most of the things that they're trying to do -- setting aside for the moment the Tex-Mex and Chinese -- are basic items that aren't that hard to do well. It's frustrating to see something that could be a half way decent approximation of a cafeteria like Luby's down the road in Longview, be so utterly inconsistent and underwhelming. read more

Marshall restaurant is quite clean and food is absolutely delicious!!!!! Waitress and other staff were pleasant and helpful.

It was a Sunday night, right around 7:30pm. We had come from Shreveport and needed to find something to eat before making the almost 6 hour drive back to Austin. We stopped at Golden Corral. It didn't take us long to wish we had kept driving. The waitress was really nice and offered to get us anything we needed, but the rest of our experience left a lot to be desired. There were only 5 other tables being used (maybe) yet there were empty/dirty tables here and there. The food on the buffet had obviously been there a while. If it looked appetizing, it certainly wasn't when we got back to the table to take a bite. I had the fried fish, which was ok, but the hushpuppies were so rubbery, I couldn't even bite into them. The meatloaf was cold as was the fried AND baked chicken. The vegetables had a skin over the top of the broth they were in and from 10 feet away, I didn't even want to look at the salad bar. We sat by the dessert bar where they have the chocolate fountain. The chocolate was really thick and almost smelled burnt. I wonder how many hours or days that thing has been on, using the same chocolate. The place was dirty. We sat next to a half-wall, dividing two areas of the dining room. There was a layer of dust on the top that I could see as I was sitting there eating. The miniblinds on the windows were dirty and had been totally damaged by misuse. I was afraid to go into the restroom, however it seemed cleaner than the dining room. For $27 and some change, my boyfriend and I had a few bites to eat and went on our way. We went to the gas station right up the road to wash our hands and 'clean up'. It's bad when a gas station restroom on the interstate feels cleaner than the dining room of a restaurant. If we're ever through there again, I think there is a Whataburger a little further down the road. We'll stop off there instead. read more

The reason for the one star is the lack of care in what you are serving people. We stopped while traveling and I got the green beans. They were spoiled. I asked my server to confirm the taste of the beans, in which she did. She took it to the serving manager who is over the food. They both tasted it. I watch them both walk away. Sometime later my server came and confirmed that there was definitely something wrong with the green beans. Thirty minutes later they still had not changed out the beans, so I ask to talk to a manager. The same manager who was over the food came to my table, at that time I asked why would she leave food that was obviously spoiled on the buffet. She then says they we're cooking more, not answering the question asked. She kept avoiding the question, finally saying if the food makes anyone sick, then the health department will come. I don't cook, so I eat out - a lot! I try to eat healthy, but with all the choices Golden Corral has, I generally 'graze' through the selections. Big Jack was quite helpful and very pleasant as our waiter. Since this was a business trip, I had my business partner with me. He enjoyed the steak and various foods while I did the salad bar first. Very good! The choices were quite varied, and everything I ate was quite good, as were my partner's choices. Good conversation, not rushed, and good food. If you're looking for date-night dining, this clearly isn' the place for you. Its a bit loud and informal. It's casual buffet dining. For what it is, it gets 4 stars. There is plenty of selection, to the point of being a little ADHD about the food choices. But that means its perfect for large groups and families that may not agree on a type of place to eat at (Mexican, Asian, American, etc.). So, if you've got a group with divergent tastes, Golden Corral is a decent place for casual dining. Everyone can find some greasy good food to fulfill their hunger. If you're looking for a waitress to be super attentive or to have a more traditional dining experience, GC isn't for you. For the first time, we held our annual holiday luncheon for our Public Services, Support Services, and Water Billing at the location on East End Blvd South in Marshall on Tuesday 12-17-14 and it was an awesome experience!! I cannot imagine any negative comments about this location because EVERY aspect of our event (65 people) was perfect; food was great, service was great, and management bent over backwards to make our event a success - we will return! read more

I visit the establishment weekly. I am surprised at all the negativity regarding it. It is true that have an extensive variety for food, salads, and deserts. That's what make is attractive to me. Being a picky eater and having grandchildren that are just as picky, we can go here with others and never feel that we can't find something to suit our appetite. I love their steak medium well. While it is served in small pieces, there is less waste for the business. Since it is a buffet, the food is replenished continuously and is mixed with the food still on the buffet. With the price of the food and drink being between $12-14 per meal for all you can eat, it would be ridiculous to think it would be served to one in large quantities or for food be thrown out every time it is replenished. I love the food and the kind, attentive people. Only one time have I been dissatisfied with the service and it was because one waitress was too busy trying to get off. Being in small towns, I will take this restaurants over most any time. Since I eat out daily, I spend $10-15 to order from the select menu, wait as long as 20 minutes for the meal to be prepared, and then have inhale the food because lunch is almost over. I guess if I want perfection, I will have to cook it myself because there is no chance everyone will be happy all the time when eating out since we all have different concepts of what taste good as well as the expectations of how others are supposed to act. My husband and I ate there on November 29th, 2013, and we had a very bad experience. Although the food looks so plentiful, it was obvious when we tasted it that they mix newly cooked food in with what is left over. For instance, I ate some broccoli which had some fresh tasting pieces, and then bit into others in the same serving that I had to quietly spit out which tasted grossly old and "funny." I did the same with other items on my plate. My husband, however, ate what he got, and had to suffer through food poisoning for two more days on the road. Another thing that bothered me was that several buffet serving tongs had dropped down into the food where someone would have to fish them out with their hands to use them. The restaurant needs to use long enough tongs so that unsanitary situation wouldn't happen.
