I've supplied my handmade sage bundles to the store for years and have always had a positive relationship with the person I typically work with. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was very different. A different manager placed a special order for 16 sage bundles. Because I don't keep that quantity on hand and she wanted to hand-select the bundles, I went out of my way to order additional product, assemble 25 bundles so she would have plenty to choose from, and drive to the store for the scheduled delivery. When I arrived, the person who placed the order was not there, so another employee met me. She selected the 16 bundles and repeatedly commented on how beautiful they were and how nice they smelled. We actually had quite a conversation about the scent. I was therefore surprised when, a week later, I was informed that the bundles supposedly had a "strong, unpleasant odor," that the shop was uncomfortable selling or keeping them, and that I needed to come pick them up. I was also never paid for the order. When I returned to retrieve the product, the interaction was rude and dismissive. Another employee even unnecessarily commented that the bundles smelled like "weed." Having worked with sage for years, I found this particularly surprising because the bundles smelled exactly as they normally do - like dried sage. I had not changed my suppliers or the way the product was made. To make matters worse, the bundles had been placed in plastic zip-top bags stacked on top of one another, which crushed and damaged some of them. I understand that a retailer may occasionally decide a product isn't right for them. What I found unacceptable was the way this situation was handled: a special order was requested, I spent money and time preparing it, drove a considerable distance to deliver it, the product was accepted and complimented at delivery, and then the shop refused to pay for it, mishandled the product, and required me to make another trip to retrieve it. As a small business owner, my time, materials, and inventory matter. I would have appreciated basic professionalism, communication, and respect for the fact that I was fulfilling a specific order for a business that had successfully carried my products for years. This experience was especially disappointing because of the long-standing relationship I had with the shop. I hope the management will take this as an opportunity to consider how vendors and customers are treated, particularly when someone is placing orders for products they may not be familiar with. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would be hesitant to recommend this shop to other small business owners as a place to wholesale their products.

Last Christmas, wifey was gifted a cozy pair of slippers & pajamas via Eberjey, from my stepmom who is a frequent customer. And ever since, we're both are fans of this store by the sea. We make it a point to stop by when in the area...and this most recent visit, I couldn't help but notice the sweet yet subtle aroma that filled the air upon arrival. I'm very sensitive to most scents...but as soon as I noticed this one passed the test, I had to investigate which candle it was. I love candles, and since I cook lots of fish at home, I've learned that the perfect (safe and toxic/chemical-free candle) works like a charm, as the perfect home deodorizer. Fern + Moss makes wonderful candles. The one I gravitated towards is lavender & sage. At $42 it might seem step, but you get what you pay for...and these high-end soy candles, cannot be compared to all the cheap chemical/toxic laden candles sold elsewhere for half the price. It's a double wick and burns for up to 72 hours. Trish McEvoy makes my favorite candle -- Wild Blueberry & Vanilla. It's soft yet fruity...but at $64 a pop for the same size as this Fern + Moss discovery, wifey & I agreed it's worth a try. I was interested in purchasing between two to four bouquets depending on the size. I was told it would be best to come into the store to choose the balloons and colors, and I mentioned that I would be coming in later that afternoon. When I entered the store, I noticed the balloon bar was located in the back corner of the store, so I walked over there right away. At the time, the staff was helping another customer with a wrapping order. While I waited, no one at the balloon counter acknowledged that I was there or mentioned they would be with me shortly. When it was finally my turn, I asked about ordering two to four balloon bouquets depending on size. I was told they did not have time to make four bouquets. I then asked if two bouquets were possible, and I was told they could do two but that it would take about 30 minutes. The surprise party started at 5 pm, so I had a little buffer and decided to move forward with the order. The balloons are definitely on the pricey side, but the overall look made it worth it. One additional issue was during checkout. It's not clear where the checkout line starts and people just wait on either side of counter, creating confusion of who's first.

One of my favorite pieces has always been the Opalite necklace. Over the years I've probably purchased at least five of them. At the time they were around $25, and now they're listed at $48 on the website. Unfortunately, the most recent one I purchased broke within a week or two. I stopped by the shop today to ask if there was anything they could do--whether that meant repairing it or offering a small discount toward a replacement. Nothing was offered, and the interaction I had (I believe with May Martin's mother) felt dismissive and uncomfortable. I was told the necklaces looked tarnished and was lectured about how to care for them. In reality, they had been sitting in a drawer for a year or two because I wasn't sure what to do after the chain broke. I understand that things can break and that policies vary, but customer service matters. Even a simple apology or a small gesture--like a repair option or a 5-10% discount--would have gone a long way toward creating a better experience. Unfortunately, the interaction left me with a bad impression, and I don't plan to return. I'd recommend looking for higher-quality pieces elsewhere.
