I've been buying jewelry from May Martin at the Lab since they first opened. I remember when they had a small pop-up, and I was really excited to support the brand. One of my favorite pieces has always been the Opalite necklace. Over the years I've probably purchased at least five of them. At the time they were around $25, and now they're listed at $48 on the website. Unfortunately, the most recent one I purchased broke within a week or two. I stopped by the shop today to ask if there was anything they could do--whether that meant repairing it or offering a small discount toward a replacement. Nothing was offered, and the interaction I had (I believe with May Martin's mother) felt dismissive and uncomfortable. I was told the necklaces looked tarnished and was lectured about how to care for them. In reality, they had been sitting in a drawer for a year or two because I wasn't sure what to do after the chain broke. I understand that things can break and that policies vary, but customer service matters. Even a simple apology or a small gesture--like a repair option or a 5-10% discount--would have gone a long way toward creating a better experience. Unfortunately, the interaction left me with a bad impression, and I don't plan to return. I'd recommend looking for higher-quality pieces elsewhere. read more

Super cute jewelry, accessories, and gifts! I always stop in on my trips to The Lab and I also just discovered their other location in Costa Mesa on Victoria St.! Beyond this the owner and the employees are awesome! I asked the owner if her team would be able to help me with some soldering in a personal project and they were super responsive and very willing! I was amazed at the speed too, I dropped off my pieces and they were all ready the next day! I have been coming to this location for YEARS - it is such a hidden gem. Eli is alway very helpful and friendly, and I always find the best gifts, trinkets, and jewelry. It's also such a cute location! Picturesque with unique fountains, plants, and a neat tunnel. Walking distance to a handful of yummy coffee shops and other small vendors. Came in to return a gift that was given to me. The woman with blonde hair was rude and super condescending. I didn't have the receipt and didn't want to have to ask my friend for it. The woman said it was damaged ( it was just a smudge from my finger on the white package) and they don't carry this anymore ( implying that's it's old) and saying they only have a 7 day return policy which I wouldn't know because I didn't have the receipt and it was a gift I received 2days ago. I understand having policies but what happened to being polite and kind about it. I have never shopped here before and looks like I will never return. read more

If you have dogs or are a dog lover, avoid this place like the plague. My friend & I were at The Lab in Costa Mesa enjoying some coffee. Taking in the scenery. I went to look at the jewelry because it was across from where we sat. Didn't even go in the trailer. Took a card & went back to my friend because the lady was curt & short with me when I inquired about the earrings. Shortly thereafter, the lady tried to remove us from a public space. Apparently there is some time limit on a public space 50 feet from your store front? Will never shop there now. Shame on you! Rescues deserve the opportunity to learn how to properly behave in public. My shepherd caused no harm. Several people enjoyed his presence & pet him. The Nook (highly recommend) and its customers certainly had no issue with him. YOU scared away this customer; not my shepherd. read more

This place has a lot of cute styles and I had a been coming here for many years, but as of recently they've significantly raised the prices on everything. That's OK if the quality was raised as well, but it wasn't. UPDATE , I'm attaching a photograph of a pair of earrings I bought here that have turned bronze less than a month. I never thought I'd have that issue, also a reason I have bought from May Martin (the real gold aspect). So disappointing. My jewelry from here has always been beautiful. I drove 4 hours to come to this store for that very reason. However, there is an issue with some costumer service and question of cost. I trusted my cost was calculated accurately, but was confused when the prices did not match my receipt. I gave my feedback and they kept asking that I call rather than explaining to me over the feedback thread. I found it rather odd that they didn't want to explain it in writing. The woman who helped me (who I believe is the designers mother) also was very clearly impatient and asked me to pay before I was done shopping, and then wrote in my signature for the payment. This seems to me a very bad practice that could put the company at a liability. I still love my jewelry, but I will restrict my purchases to online, if ever, in the future. read more

May Martin has the cutest dainty jewelry pieces and I am so in love with their cute little shop :) So far, the staff has been very nice and friendly. I love the way they display their jewelry and how they let you try it on before you purchase! If you want it customized, they can make you one. I got a bar necklace and wanted it in an 18" chain instead of the usual 16" chain and they made it for me right there, which was really cool! Their pieces are very quality and do not tarnish. This is my go to spot for ALL jewelry and gifts. Lily and her staff are amazing. They always greet me and answer any questions that I may have! I am always decked out in MayMartin. She has the cutest stud earrings, best delicate necklaces, perfectly constructed bracelets (YAAASS is my favorite), and sweetest anklets. I do all of my gift shopping here and even decorated my nightstand with the art they have. I sent all my friends over to her and now they all brand themselves with MayMartin as well. I'm a total cheapo when it comes to accessories...I think I can just get it at f21 usually but now I see the difference completely and would rather spend the extra money since it is made with quality and love. Her style is amazing, and they sell the prettiest, most feminine jewelry that looks SUPER high quality for low cost! I've had some rings on for a couple months and they still look brand new, and same goes for my earrings! I wear them in and out of the ocean, shower, to hot yoga, and everywhere in between. Jewelry is honestly cute, but pretty bad quality. Looks good for a few days before turning green or rusting. I purchased some of their dainty rings for pretty hefty price tags and they all turned my fingers green. Only select pieces are gold filled but they do not specify which ones, so basically you are at risk of purchasing cheap jewelry comparable to Forever21 products. I posted a comment on a photo on their Instagram account asking if they were planning on stocking rings that were gold filled/plated since my rings from them always turn green. Instead of replying- as a professional company would- they deleted my comment. Definitely seems unprofessional and suspicious. read more

I love supporting small businesses. I even arrived an hour early because I didn't check the hours, and waited until they were open. I found what I wanted immediately. But, aside from a casual hello, when I entered the tiny trailer the sales associate didn't say a word to me and stared at her phone hypnotized. I was searching for the correct initial letter necklace for about five minutes, and she didn't offer to help or help me get it off the display. When I finally set down what I wanted to buy next to her, she finally asked if I needed anything. I thought about not buying because of the service, but I needed the necklace that day for a gift. This little gem has so many amazing items! I've walked past it a few times when I'm at The Lab but never had gone in. BIG MISTAKE. You can do a lot of damage to your wallet in this store. I like the jewelry, the styles are nice, quality is slightly better than average. I used to love this place when I lived in the oc. I came back today for the first time in a while. There was an older woman working and she said her daughter is the owner. I specifically asked if I could try on the earrings. After getting her approval, I went for it. Instantly the second I picked something up, she jumped on me and aggressively said let me help you. The second thing I picked up she said "Be Careful with that, This one I'd rather have you NOT try on" it was not the $100 pair of earrings but rather one of the cheaper under $20 pair of earrings. If you didn't want me to try it on, you should have made it clear, I would not have had an issue with it. But don't tell me yes then make me feel uncomfortable for trying it on.
