I don't know much about the Lodge itself, but I'm reviewing the park behind it…read more My son went to the park for four nights in a row for Cub Scout Twilight camp. The Elks really have a great set-up back there. Large sweeping lawns, a wonderful covered picnic area. And a nice play-park. If it's really hot, be sure to bring something to cool down the slide with, as it's sheet metal (you know...the really good old-school kinds)

I've been an Elks member for over 25 years, in another city, while in Chico Ca. decided to visit…read morethe Elks Lodge, went twice, a Monday evening an a Wednesday evening. Was saddened that not one member welcomed us to your lodge either evening, with the exception of the bartender asking for our membership card. Both nights we saw governing members of your lodge, yet not one of them came over to welcome us, introduce themselves, ask where we're from, what brings us to the Chico Lodge?? etc.. Wednesday was your burger night, we thought about staying, but since No one had even spoke to us, we felt unwelcome, we decided to go elsewhere for our dinner!! Your Governing personal needs to pay more attention to strangers in your lodge, If I'd been someone looking to join the Elks, I'd have walked out, not interested in returning!!! Every lodge is struggling to get new members, pay attention to how you treat strangers in your Lodge!!! Also, if I'd been from the ABC, a couple things I saw, I could have shut your lodge down for 90 days!!!!!! Wake up and pay attention to who's in Your Lodge!!!! It makes a big difference!!!! To set an example, went into a Elks Lodge in Oregon, within a few minutes the Exalted Ruler had introduced himself, welcomed us to there Lodge, introduced us to other local members, the bartender housed our 2nd drink, with a welcome to the lodge, was invited to join a group for there dinner!! Such a huge difference than the way we were treated in Chico.... Wake Up Chico!!!!

As Jenn M said "Faith in humanity restored" should pretty much be their tagline…read more I like to donate to this place during Thanksgiving considering how many poor turkeys are slaughtered in factory farms every year. I'm not gonna lie.. you really have to be committed to make the drive up here but I truly think it's worth it. They offer 2 group tours every other weekend for $5 where they show you the goats, turkeys, cows, pigs and more! You also get to walk around the farm at your leisure until 4PM when they close to the public. It was refreshing to be around people who were curious about their food and questioning current industry practices. I learned that pigs were actually pretty clean and loved to be petted! Of course.. I posted pics on Facebook and got made fun of for driving so far to visit a farm but unfortunately ignorance isn't something that today's society is lacking. This place is special.. and if you don't get it then don't come here and go to Safeway, buy your factory farmed animal torture meat, have your BBQ's, and live your life in ignorance. At least I can sleep at night knowing that there are some good people out there who are trying their best to make the smallest difference.

My faith in humanity is restored! I went up to the Farm Sanctuary for thier 4th of July "Pignic"…read morecelebration, a free event with hourly tours and a vegan BBQ. It was amazing. Every animal there has a story, and your tour guides tell you all about them (and where they like to be scratched and petted!). You will really appreciate how much personality and emotion each animal has. And it's so refreshing to know there are places like this and people that care enough to dedicate their lives to helping those who cannot help themselves. The BBQ was so damn good I was a fat bastard and ate a veggieburger AND a veggiedog. There were also endless Alternative Baking Co cookies - a blessing and a curse. The gift shop is neat - they have tons of cooking & resource books, ice cream treats & snacks, and the usual t-shirts and mugs. You can get involved in the "adopt a farm animal" project here, which allows you special visiting privileges and other goodies. The Sanctuary is about a 3-hour drive from the Bay Area, totally doable for a day. But there is a little pet-friendly cabin onsite if you want to spend the weekend. I adore this place. Knowing the horrors that "food" animals suffer through makes you appreciate just watching these animals be animals - grazing, lounging, just roaming around and taking it easy, living a happy life. A very joyful place indeed.
