Dropped in here while wandering around Chico State and checking out some of the back streets. Cool little spot. We were going to have bloody mary's but the the bartender talked us into Tequilla Sunrise. It was the right choice, and we ended up having a couple of cocktails and chatting with Maria the bartender and some of the locals, and having a proper good time! Great folks, friendly service, and good snacks make this place a great little local bar. Will definitely come back here again next time I am in Chico! Great folks! read more

Emilio the bartender is extremely rude. Made rude comments at me and my friends when we came into the bar. We've come here multiple times had nothing but good experiences. My friend and I were there for 3 minutes on Wednesday at 1am on May 28th. I was trying to play "Time" by Pink Floyd on the music machine and when it finally worked.. they came up to my friend and I and said "you guys are kicked out" and we were like wtf?? I feel like the bouncer and bar tender were a little too strict. We were not causing disruption to anyone else and trying to have a good time. Very rude and didn't give us any warning. Got overlooked twice, first time understandable bc maybe she didn't know who stepped to the bar first but she obviously saw us waiting to order a drink; well thinking we were next to order we got completely ignored AGAIN and the bartender chose to help instead a blonde Caucasian person who literally just walked up to the bar (which they saw) over helping a person of color. This is my all time favorite Chico Bar! It's not just the sawdust and peanut shells on the floor, it's not the fact that you can get a 32oz Tecate, it's not even pushing past sweaty frat boys in the tiny ass hallway to the back patio past the bathrooms. I don't know what it is, but I love this place. There is always that hella drunk chick in the back that people are holding up so that she doesn't get kicked out. There's always that loud annoying guy who tries to make friends with everyone. There's always a miss-priss Sorority chick from some other school that can't believe she's at such a dive bar. Best Bar in Chico by FAR. Love the smell of saw dust and the last call rush followed by a group sing along with the every one in the entire bar to "I've Got Friends in Low Places". This is a great bar day or night. It's casual with a "Cheers" vibe to it. You can sit at the bar and BS with the bartender and other patrons or at tables with friends. There is a covered outside patio that comes in handy when it gets crowded or for smokers. Don't be turned off by the location, this is definitely not a frat bar. read more

Ahh, Joe's. The prototypical name yields way to a prototypical college bar. And i loved it. Joe's is just exactly the bar you expect to find in a town like Chico, and when you finally DO find it, you cant help but smile. This is the place to go for any classic holiday revelry. St Patricks Day? Time for Joe's. Getting up early the morning of your graduation for a pre-grad bloody mary? Better find out what time Joe's opens (hint: Early). The sawdust on the ground means that the place isnt very sandal friendly, which is a problem for Chico in the summer considering fucking everyone where sandals in the summer. Why wouldnt you? DO NOT GO! I went tonight to this bar and was rudely denied. When I walked in I asked if they had non alcoholic beer and what the prices were. I decided I would get a hazy instead and when giving my passport the bartender questioned if it was really me. I understand with underage drinking so I gave him my Chico state Id and even health insurance card. Still this was not enough he rudely held onto my passport and asked his woman bartender who shook her head. THEN he asked me to write my signature. I agreed with no problem. I wrote my fast signature and then he pulled me aside saying "I'm going to nicely give this back to you." Then showed my comparison. He told me this was not me just because I cut my hair and had no makeup on? I also smiled for him to show him that the photo was me. I have never felt so uncomfortable and offended. I will let everyone know my experience. This establishment is disrespectful and just rude. If they tried to hold my passport I would have resulted in calling the police. I'm very disappointed and hope no one in the future will go through the disrespect and uncomfortableness I felt. I will NEVER be back. read more

I have been to this bar a few times over the last 5 years. I don't think I have ever been disrespected by anyone like I was when I was here. I was sitting at the bar (5 inch heels on) waiting for my brother to bring us our drinks. The bartender asked me if I wanted something and I said "No thank you I'm getting one from the man right there," (I pointed) He gave me a dirty look and yelled "Well nevermind then!" Wow, I can see how Chico got its booze-town reputation. My first time in town, I was brought here for a post-dinner drink. Good atmosphere: TVs on the wall, sawdust on the floor... nice. And the drinks were freakin' cheap. Not only cheap, but huge and stiff. A Tangaray and tonic cost something like $6, and it came in a glass that would be too big if it was a water glass. Can't argue with that! After a little while, the evening crowd started cycling in, so we made our way out. Gets loud and crowded, but if you're in town to party, I could see this place being a blast.
