Haven't been here in over 12 years and it's as good as I remember! Great service, clean nice atmosphere and great food. The salsa is my faavvvoorrriitteee. Not super chunky but a nice little kick without being overpowering. I I always love the chicken veracruz. So good. Nice and creamy. The guacamole leaves a little to be desired. The sweetbread is so tasty and being included with the chicken veracruz is like dessert for free. Nice size portions. Just a great little local spot. read more

The food here was quite delicious and you get a good sized portion! The chips and salsa were very good, as well as the queso. I had chicken enchiladas and the sauce and cheese on theme was very good. The ambiance in this place is very quaint and cute, especially as someone who isn't from a small town. When you walk in the place smells like sewage that should have been enough to make us leave but my 90 year old Mother likes their taco salad so we stayed .I ordered the chicken Quesadilla and OMG they used canned chicken on it when I told the waitress they should inform people that it's canned she said it wasn't but I sure know the difference. We drive 45 minutes to eat at Chico's. It is a wonderful little hole in the wall restaurant. We eat with friends there once and they took home some salsa. The service is quick and we have passed by several Mexican restaurants to eat here it is one of our favorites. read more

I've been eating at Chico's for probably 20 years. Food is always fantastic. I've probably tried everything on their menu and have never been disappointed. Portions are large & I usually take half home. Their salsa is the absolute best I've had anywhere. Service is good but they do get really busy at certain times. It's ok. Average. Not great. Not bad either. Only tried this place once so far. I think what put us off initially is they charge you for a refill of chips & salsa. You get a small basket, and that's all you get. Really? Refills on chips and salsa is a pretty standard practice at most Mexican restaurants across the country. Especially if you're drinking as you wait. Oh well. Food was ok. Not great. Not bad. The best part of the evening was our server. Tall charismatic young man. Don't remember his name, but he's memorable. He had a wedding table of 18 ..... and us ..... and he never missed a beat. Great service. Then ...... surprise! They add a 'service charge' to your check. 18% I think. Can't remember. Really? Average 3 star restaurant. Not high end at all. I think it's family owned. So basically the 'extra charge" is going to the restaurant and not directly to the server as it should. That's too bad. We would have tipped more because our server was great - but they shot themselves in the foot. The prices are not cheap, average restaurant pricing. Just be aware they will nickel and dime you for 'extra' anything. I don't typically ask for a lot of "extra" anything, but I really hate that feeling. Takes away from the fun of having a margarita when you have to count your chips. lol. Oh well. We'll probably give it another go at some point. read more

We love this little gem! The food is always fresh and the waitresses are always great. There's great options on the menu and if you have someone in your party that doesn't care for Mexican food they have a awesome hamburger. They do you sell wine and beer. After years of visiting Chico's for the occasional meal it seems as though the prices have been going up and the food quality down. Portions are also smaller. It looks like a dive on the outside but inside is good solid Tex-Mex food. Good chips and salsa. I usually get the enchiladas and they are very tasty. Husband likes their tamales. Mexican beers include Dos Equis and Tecate. No liquor, only beer and wine. Taco bar, which I have never tried but looks decent. read more

Visited this place yesterday while I was in Palatka for a pool tournament. The waitresses were really talkative and nice- so the service was pretty good. I've been to literally hundreds of Mexican restaurants all over the United States. I love Mexican food. This place is probably the most expensive Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. I had to upload photos of the menu so you could see for yourself. OUCH. To add insult to injury, their ala carte menu was minimal too (limited to burrito, taco, enchilada, and one or two more items). The chips that they served with the chips and salsa were way over seasoned. They had WAY too much salt and other seasonings on it, and it was really off putting. I ordered a couple of tacos and an enchilada. The food was pretty good. The enchilada was really greasy and cheesy (just the way I like it.) The ground beef in the tacos were also over seasoned, just like the chips. I was going to take away one star for the over seasoning and two stars for the price, but the friendly staff kept me from giving it 2 out of 5 stars. read more

The best chips and salsa I have ever had. Bought 2 quarts to bring home with us. For a very unassuming and low key home in the wall the food was excellent. A very attentive wait staff and quick service. For where this is located and the look of the building you would almost expect much less. What a great find for us Ohioans. Will be back every time we are in the area. It was a bit expensive so that is why only 4 stars, but again, would recommend to everyone. read more

Good food, I always ordered the San Diego dinner and my wife the chicken fajita. Very quiet plane little place, prices are high compared to most. This is one of those hole in the wall places, and I would probably never want to go in the back BUT it is hands down the best Mexican Food I have ever had. We lived close by for a couple years and went there every time we got the opportunity. We live half way across the country now and we would drive there this weekend if we had enough time to get there and back before work on Monday just to have their Cheese Enchiladas, salsa and white cheese dip with the home made chips. YUMMMM. My in-laws live just down the road from here and bring us salsa when they come visit. Watch the parking lot its pretty rough but I promise it is well worth the visit. Staff is very nice but the food is terrible. Rice is instant, beans are obviously canned, and the dishes are covered in yellow American cheese which changes the taste. When this hits your palate the sensation is more like hamburger helper than anything resembling Mexican. The salsa has an overwhelming sweet taste. The guacamole is made from a mix. Wait--it gets better! As we were slowly picking at our food in disbelief, we kept hearing chiming bells. We soon realized that it was several microwaves signaling that the food was ready. This was confirmed when we realized that our plates were as hot as the food. To top off this horrible dining experience, the prices were very high. A basic burrito and enchilada dinner cost about $14.79. The check for two of us before tip was $41 and change. Take my advice and try one of Palatka's other Mexican options. read more

I have eaten here once before but last night I got horrible service. I was charged 13.99 for a chicken quesadilla with none of the extras. It was just chicken and cheese. We orders nachos with onions and bell pepper, came home and they were burnt and had mushrooms. We were charged for to-go chips with our to-go order and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I have never been charged for chips. We order 3 meals, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, 2 sides of rice and a drink and we were charged $65!! That's outrageous! I have never paid this much for Mexican food and would not recommend this place to anyone. Especially if you're getting your order to-go. When we called to talk to a manager we were told they weren't there, they called us back 6 hours later and told us that we should know the prices and the up charges when we order over the phone. We are also supposed to know how their entrees come. The only issue with that is, when we pulled the menu-It tells you that every entree comes with tomatoes and lettuce and none of ours did. Very small place but really good, authentic, Mexican food. It's a little pricey for a small mom and pops type place but they give you plenty of food and its really really rich, tasty and not to spicy. Defiantly worth a try! read more
