I'm updating my original review because it's only fair to give credit where it's due. Our other experience wasn't great, but we've been back several times since then, and they've completely redeemed themselves. The service has been consistently friendly, and the food has been amazing every time. It's actually becoming one of our go-to spots when we're craving Mexican food. As someone who's used to Southern California Mexican food, I usually find a lot of the Mexican restaurants in Reno to be a bit bland. Chihuahuas is one of the few places I've found that has those bold, authentic flavors and reminds me of home. We're really glad we gave them another chance! read more

Update: This place is still as amazing as I remember. We decided to come during the Connor McGregor vs Max Halloway UFC fight since every place in town was full so I called Chihuahua's and they said they weren't busy and was showing the fight. We got right in and I asked to sit at the bar right in front of the tv. The staff were super friendly and the bartenders chatted with us the whole time while also enjoying the fight themselves in between making their drinks. The food was super delicious. We ordered Aguachile (really good but super sour), pineapple jalapeño wings (too sweet and not my fave), ribeye chicharron........be prepared to cough and have the people sitting near you cough non stop lol. It was spicy and a bit dry but good. My favorite was the roasted bone marrow with garlic bread. Insanely good. We had a great time and will definitely be back. read more

Wifi was very hungry so we found this local Mexican restaurant. It was a good location with plenty of parking and beautiful interior. Fast and friendly service. Areas for improvement. This was my second time visiting, and it was just as wonderful as the first! The staff was incredibly friendly and kind, and the food was delicious. I ordered the Bandera Burrito, and it was so delicious. The group next to us was having a blast with their tequila, so I'm definitely ordering that on my next visit! read more

I am eating all my past words about this place. I first came here right when it opened in Reno and wasn't impressed. On 4th of July I was craving Mexican food and all my regular stomping grounds were closed-Chihuahua's was OPEN! I rolled my eyes and said fine. So happy all the other places were closed! This is now my new Mexican go to!! Not sure what changed but I've been two days in a row now and can't wait to go back. I am disabled and most of my dining "out" is ordering in. Ordering from Chihuahua's never disappoints. My favorite is the bean and cheese burrito, wet with red or green sauce. My husband's go to is their pozole, he LOVES it. My son always orders a burger and is always happy. I have never had an order that disappoints. The portions are more than generous, two adults could easily split an entre. Orders are quickly prepared and special instructions are never missed. Truly a great experience. read more

3/21/26 So to start we had reservations for a large party of 13. FYI they have a reservation charge that they apply to bill. 1st time I heard of this but good to know. We all arrived and we were seated and a large nice table by Anna the Hostess. Karen was our server and she took great care of us all. We all ordered drinks and they came quick We got 2 pitchers of Margaritas 1 spicy and 1 reg. Both were really good . Everyone ordered food and came pretty quick . Everyone seems to enjoy their food. I had the 5 Tacos pastor w/ rice and beans and was delicious. They also had live music which was cool just had a little feedback with mic every once and while but was still nice . My daughter and I were in Reno to meet a family member and she found this restaurant on Yelp. The server, Eduardo was extremely nice and helpful. We ordered ceviche off the Happy Hour menu. My daughter ordered the shrimp tacos. She said they were excellent. She is still talking about them. I had the tacos birria and they were outstanding. Fresh, the meat was cooked to perfection. What a refreshing, welcoming place. So different from what used to be at this location. Outside seating available and a large bar area. Plenary of booths and tables as well. Fun selfie area in the bar. Friendly bartenders! Large drink menu ...top shelf margarita on the rocks was needed and it was amazing! Salted enough to last for the whole drink!!! Had a great experience last week for a business meal, we had around 20 people and everything went incredibly smooth. Drinks were flowing the entire time, chips were kept stocked, all the appetizers came out quick as can be, and every single plate came out correct and piping hot. I had 2 days of Mexican food leading up to this so I opted for a ribeye steak. I can't lie, this steak was one of the best I've had in Reno, anywhere. I was quite surprised by it. As far as ambiance they had us seated in the room toward the back which was pretty private, great place for a big group. Hubby and I really enjoyed our dinner at Chihuahua's Cantina and Grill. Lovely ambiance inside and made us feel like we we're immersed in a Cantina! We loved the street tacos; they were really flavorful. And, we loved the chicken wing marinade (pineapple jalapeños) but the wings were overcooked and only thin slivers of grilled pineapple were plated. Chips and salsa were fresh and tasted good. It's been so long since I've had a chance to stop here. We moved out of town for an awhile. Now we are back. We were Looking forward to seeing Oscar, our favorite bartender from the past. But apparently he's no longer working here. But that's OK because we still had a great time and a great bartender. His name was Eduardo. Very friendly, polite, and professional. And he made it perfect Cadillac margarita. I really miss this place. The best Mexican food in town and really great workers. First time here and I really enjoyed it! The restaurant is very nice and they played good music. They were able to seat us within 8min or so. Our server, Flori, was very nice and recommended great selections when we asked. Flori checked in on us a lot to make sure things were going great. I got the chimichanga and it was really good! Let me tell you... it did not disappoint! The service from Jesus was fantastic, and the patio was a perfect ambiance for us and my dog. My date and I tried every taco - yes, every one. I had such a great experience here overall. Starting with our waitress, she was absolutely the sweetest, shoutout her. She answered all of our questions and was so attentive. Our theory: if the salsa is good then the food will be good too. Well, the salsa is good here! And so is the food!!! From the moment we walked in the staff was beyond incredible! We came all the way from California and had a dinner party to celebrate our mom's 80th birthday. My wife and I had just come back from a Whole Foods trip and decided to grab dinner at Chihuahua's. It wasn't our first time there, but this was the first time we didn't have a great experience. The restaurant is amazing, and the interior decor is perfect. When we walked in, the hostess greeted us, and we were seated in about two minutes. We got our drinks and placed our orders. The food was delicious! Our waiter, though, wasn't so great. He didn't bring extra napkins, and another staff member brought them to us. The wait time to get refills on our drinks was way too long. He checked on the table behind us but didn't check on us. I noticed he spent a lot of time at the front station chatting with the hostess. We waited for almost fifteen minutes after we finished our meals while he was hanging out with the hostess. I was getting a little frustrated with waiting, so I raised my hand to get his attention and waved him over to get the bill. I couldn't help but chuckle when I got to the tip section of the receipt. I'm not saying we won't return, but if we get him as a waiter again, I'll politely ask to be moved. read more
