4-stars? Really Brownwood? I only give this place 3 stars because it is actually a good place to get shitfaced on cocktails (if you want beers, go to Duke's). The margarita chicken is ok, but this restaurant is the poster child for chain food. It's the McDonald's of sit-down chain restaurants. There is probably enough MSG in this food to put a Chinese buffet to shame. More than anything, I judge a place by the steaks. The more sauce I have to put on a steak to be able to eat it, the worse it is. I guess you really can't expect much for $10 an entree, but I can't imagine giving the place 5 stars. Also, the ribs here aren't near as moist or scrumptious as they are at Pete's. For $10, I'd go to Underwoods or Pete's. It's Chilis..probably the only chain sit-down place to eat in town that isn't fast food. I always get the chicken crispers and the wife always gets the chicken tacos, and we usually split a margarita. If you're afraid of the local joints, go here for safety. They do have a smoking section, so they get a star for that. read more

Chili's has always been one of our favorite places but this location is not up to par. We even tried going just for dessert, how can they screw up a chocolate lava cake, right? well, they did. it looked awesome. took such a long time then was totally disappointing. Our meal the night before was along the same lines. We ordered a cheese nacho entree because someone in our party was vegetarian. It came out and had meat under the cheese. We asked for it to be taken back and the manager did oblige, but when he returned to give us the nachos overheard us talking about the non-working table register device and asked "what else is wrong now?" just seemed unprofessional and unnecessarily. Food was good and the service too. The cook on the other hand, messed up the meal preps, daughter had Cajun pasta no veggies or chicken. The server noticed he made it with both when she had him remake it he did the same thing, 3rd time was a charm he got it right. I had a burger with roasted jalapeño, he left off the peppers. Was going to be 1 star, but beer was cold, so +1. Sat at bar for 5 minutes being ignored by wait staff. Manager came out and was greeting people in bar area and asked how I was doing. "Not worth a damn, no one will wait on me". So, for the rest of the night, the manager was the only one who even spoke to me. I am so impressed. I ordered a steak medium & it came out rare, my waitress took it back to be cooked a bit more & it came out rare-medium rare. Without having to ask she brought her manager over and her manager confirmed how I wanted my steak cooked and went and got me a new one. I had to leave in a hurry so she brought my steak out, let me cut into it and then boxed it up for me. She even gave me a side of A1. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Don't order curbside from this location. I've done this twice and neither time did they have my food made or delivered to me outside. I had to go in the location and re order food or take it home cold. Today when I called to let them know I was here (after waiting 40 minutes) they said "O, our to-go person just left, sorry". So does that mean if you order and yal don't have staff you won't get the order your paid for and ordered online.... very poor customer service read more

I've been eating Chili's elsewhere for 20 years. Brownwood is about the worst of the lot. We had to seat ourselves and wait for anybody to notice us. Donna Summer was blasting, mixed with other 70s disco music, loud enough to stop conversation. We ordered appetizers only. SW Eggrolls and what was evidentally supposed to be fried Cheese Curds which are good elsewhere. Both appetizers came to the table in square, bare plates with some kind of ranch dressing. The Eggrolls were as expected, 6 halves, warm, identical, boxed from frozen, obviously. The "Cheese curd" things were basically the size of peanut M&M's, batter dipped and fried. We were left to open these pellet things and look for cheese bits. These were crap. I sent them back. The "manager" comes and questions me. I explained why we sent them back and she instructed me on the dish, tried to explain it to me as if I had not understood the meaning of the menu. She was indignant an sullen and I could see the thought in her face of arguing with me. I finally told her she should be embarrassed to serve them to people. She took them off the bill. When we paid out, I discovered that there was as $1.99 charge for "entertainment". THIS was because my wife had messed with the kiosk games while we waited for the food without realizing Chili's charged for playing with their table terminals. Went to Chili's in Brownwood for lunch after church. The restaurant was filthy and dingy. The greeter was UN....unclean, unkind and unfriendly. Chilis can do better. It will be desperate times for me and family to dine at this location again. read more

We've patronized Chili's numerous times over the years but this was our first visit to the B'wood location and it will definitely be our last. Order was taken within a reasonable time but ... This Chili's may be small, but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for with great service and good food. I love Chili's in general, and this one is especially close to my heart, since it has been one of the only really sit-down chain restaurants available in Brownwood. The bar service lately has been particularly exceptional. My only complaint is that they seem to constantly have new, inexperienced servers. Their training seems thorough, but it definitely is noticeable when you have someone waiting on you who hasn't ever waited tables before. Still, anytime my food hasn't come out correctly, they have ALWAYS been quick to genuinely apologize and fix it. I understand that waiting tables is a hard, thankless job, and servers are not in control of how long it can take a kitchen to prepare the food. Probably your best choice for a casual dining experience in Brownwood. The food here is decent, and the atmosphere is what you would come to expect from a Chili's. My only complaint is that every time I visit this location I feel like the waitstaff is extremely unenthusiastic about being there, and it usually takes forever to get refills. After informing my server of my gluten allergy, and her 'checking with the kitchen' to make sure it would be, and the guy who brought the food saying that yes it was gluten free. . . It was not. As others mentioned, staff encourages use of little kiosks to check out. Followed by a survey. Outrageously, my waiter changed my survey answers in front of me before scuttling off. This is after payment and tip. No doubt the guy was trying to meet some quota. I was angry to be corralled into a survey and shocked to see my answers changed. Really not good. Hamburger patty was cooked until it resembled a hockey puck. The restaurant is NOT CLEAN. Floors are dirty. Bathrooms are dirty with mold and bugs. Worst part is that you have to walk through a very very very smoky bar to get to the bathroom. Food is decent and the service is good, if you are planning on going in and sitting down. If you are looking to get food to go, you had better find somewhere else to get your food. If you try calling there is a one in ten chance that they'll actually answer the phone. If you look to use the app, your ordering will go just fine but you'll stand at the counter waiting to pick up your food for at least fifteen minutes. It's not that they're busy, four or five of the employees will stand there and look at you and then go back to their conversations. Usually the person that makes their way to the counter to help you is one of the shift managers. Often times the take-out counter has a sign stating that you need to signal the bartender to take your order, but they apparently can't be bothered with you if they have one person sitting the bar. Usually the girl that's there will just hold a finger up at you saying that you need to wait a minute. This will happen about five or six times.
