We had a lovely cruise celebrating a birthday last weekend! The boat was in perfect condition, our group of 10 to fit very comfortably with room to spare, and Captain David made us all feel right at home and taken care of! We got super lucky with a sunny day, nice wind, and hardly any swell - great conditions for a Saturday cruise with friends. Captain David quickly and easily felt like part of the fam! By the end of the trip, you might even start to consider a career as a sailor yourself!

My girlfriend had her birthday party on the boat and that was my first experience with Chill Out Sailing. It was an incredible time on open water, floating toys of all sorts and the paddle boards to explore away from the boat. The captain was very knowledgeable about everything sailing/boat related and also about the City of Long Beach. We brought our own food and alcohol, bathing suits and towels. Besides that, everything was taken care of. On my second experience with Chill Out Sailing, I went on the smaller powerboat and we saw pods and pods of dolphins and had a more intimate experience on the water. Top-notch! My girlfriends and I chartered this boat for our birthdays and it was exceptional! We were taken out during sunset and not only was the captain amazing but his first mate was so helpful. This year my birthday fell on Thanksgiving and all I wanted to do was to be on the open water. It was planned very last minute but when I reached out to David he was available and eager to make my birthday wish come true. He took me and a good friend out early Thanksgiving morning and we had an absolute blast! Captain David is an incredible host, very respectful and down to earth. His co-captain Remy also added to the experience! Together they make a great team and I wouldn't have wanted to charter with anyone else. For the touring experience he gave us plenty of options to choose from, in this case we just wanted to be on the open water. He is very familiar with the local area as well as the LA beach areas and Catalina. Next time we will definitely be taking a trip to Catalina Island. I would not hesitate to recommend Captain David to anyone. I spoke with a few other captains but as soon as I got on the phone with him, I knew he was who we wanted to charter with. I can't wait for my next boating adventure. I highly recommend this chill out sailing experience! Xo read more

My group of friends and I had a great time celebrating our birthdays on the boat with Capt. David! We had reserved 4 hours for a sunset cruise (330-730) per David's recommendation. The boat comfortably fit our group of 10. We got to bring food/drinks. We went in the open water then stopped around one of the islands and we had the option of getting into the water if we wanted. The boat has a kayak and paddle board that is free for guests to use. Definitely would recommend this to others! P. S. We Ubered/took Lyfts to the dock. I'd recommend arriving early because one of the cars missed the exit and delayed our departure. read more

Ruined Father's Day and my mom's birthday!! Bought food and drinks and drove my family out an hour to get here only to be told they didn't see my email booking that I booked and paid for a week ago and were already out at sea with different guests and nothing can be done. Love this boat and this captain! This is best most perfect idea for birthdays, bachelorettes, engagements, anniversary's etc. A few friends of mine and myself chartered this boat for 4th of July. It was absolutely incredible. Captain took us to see the fireworks smack dead in the middle of the Marina. It was absolutely breath taking. We had our very own private show. All I can say is WOW!!!! David thank you for always being so sweet, so nice, super helpful with everything and just the coolest captain ever! We will definitely be coming back for more. read more

We had an awesome day in the water with David. He was prepared, on time, and a fun guy to hang with to boot. Bonus - being a Frenchman, we all got to join him in celebrating his home country's World Cup victory! He managed to get 2 yachts with 24 people up to Malibu on a beautiful day without a hitch. We constantly found ourselves saying "Why haven't we done this before?!". Needless to say, we will book with David again soon I'm sure. read more

My friends and I had THE BEST time with Capitan David! He took us from the Marina all the way to Malibu. Once we dropped anchor he provided us with paddle boards and a floaty!! On our way back, he spotted a huge group of dolphins and turned the boat around to put us right in the middle of it. The dolphins came right up and swam along side the boat. Such a magical experience I'll never forget!! We will be back! read more

Established in 2013.

It all started in the South of France when I was living on a sailboat. I wanted to share our passion for sailing, so I created a bed and breakfast on a boat and offered chartering services. Life brought me to California, and now I am a certified captain for the states. I have several boats to propose and can do sunset cruises on a sailing catamaran and a luxury motoryacht.

Meet the Business Owner: David C.

Sailing has always been my passion since the age of 10. After getting my Master's degree in International Business, I decided to specialize in the yacht industry. In France, I was a yachtbroker and business owner. My wife and I were living on a sailboat and conducted a bed and breakfast chartering service. We decided to move to California in 2015 and I am now a certified captain for private charters and also a yachtbroker in Marina Del Rey.

And all though we still made the best of it it really did not live up to what was promised and the amount of money we paid. So let's start with m: 1. The address did not match what was listed on their Yelp page and created a lot of confusion and frustration especially since we had kids with us. I had to text the owner, Mario, and he gave us another location to charter form which was not at all what was listed on their page. 2. Not sure if the captain of the day,Noah, was having a bad day or what but he was definitely not in the mood to greet us properly. He was very short, not so friendly and barely spoke to us during our ride. 3. The boat was not like the photos they presented or posted on Yelp. I even texted the owner and asked him to send me a few photos of what the boat will look like. It was definitely dirty, the coaches were so damaged and dirty they had black clothes over them. One of inside couches was wet, my uncle sat on it unknowingly making his pants wet and him uncomfortable for the rest of the ride. 4. The table surfaces were all damaged & chipped. We had to be careful for the kids not to get splinters when they would approach the table to grab something to eat. 5. Worst of it all was that we only watched cargo shipments for 2 hours!! On our phone call with Mario mentioned we can go through the canals and even get a far glimpse of the Queen Mary but we didn't. We even asked Noah to take us the other way around into the open water and he said no he needs to this way first (meaning by the cargo shipments). It was very disappointing since it was my dads actual birthday and the experience was completely robbed from us. It's very sad that we wasted over a thousand dollars and didn't receive what we had paid for. And I even texted Mario afterwards telling him our concerns but didn't get a reply back. Poor customer service.

Long Beach Boat Rentals

Finally a place that rents boats that you can take into the ocean! Although you're not allowed to…read morego too far out. And they're phasing out their most powerful boat, the 75hp, because of too much abuse and the associated high insurance costs. But they still offer the 40hp boat and that has plenty of power, with a top speed of about 20 knots. It comfortably seats 4 people in designated seats, but can fit an extra two people sitting up front sideways on bench seating. I had a great time. I saw seals sunbathing on the buoys, and I even saw dolphins near the first oil rig island by the Queen Mary ship. Of course you can also get a nice close-up view of the Queen Mary itself. You're allowed to go almost to the Seal Beach Municipal Pier, but not quite. 1hr duration is enough if you want to do a quick single lap of the designated ocean area. 2hrs is highly recommend if you want to take your time and not be rushed. Be sure to bring a light jacket, hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the wind and sun. The designated driver is not allowed to drink. I'm not sure if the rest of the guests are allowed to drink. Park near the Yard House restaurant and then walk to the back of the restaurant and you'll see the little hut with the staff in it. If nobody is there then look over the edge to the docked boats because the staff might be down there instead.

It was uplifting to see so many people creating memories, and I even had the opportunity to meet a few genuinely kind and interesting people along the way. The upper deck was poorly covered, wet, and uncomfortable, which made it difficult to eat or enjoy the evening. The food quality was poor, items ran out multiple times, and plates and utensils were unavailable at points. Overall, the operation felt overcrowded and disorganized, and it was not an enjoyable way to spend New Year's Eve. After significant back‑and‑forth, Spirit Cruises did eventually issue a refund by check, which I appreciate. However, that does not change how disappointing the actual experience was. I would not recommend this company for a special occasion.

The Bluetooth connection worked fine but the speakers were a little blown. Despite the condition of the duffy, we still had a blast. The staff was very nice checking us in, getting us started and parking the duffy. I'd totally do this again!

What wasn't made clear is that the $10 only covers one hour. After getting inside, I learned you have to keep paying for every additional hour. For comparison: Castaic Splash Park 2 kids = $70 total Parent = free Adventure Lagoon (calculation based on 3 hours - though I chose this place to come for 4 hours since it was advertised as same price for all day) 2 kids admission = $70 Water park fees = $60 Parent admission = $35 Total = $165 So instead of spending the day at a beautiful lake surrounded by nature, we paid more than double to be at a small water park surrounded by warehouses. The website prominently advertises the day rate and has a big "BOOK NOW" button, but the hourly water park fees are not made clear upfront; you have to literally scroll below the pricing and "Book Now" to see them. Captain David does everything to make us having an amazing time on sea ! For sailing lovers, he masters the sails like no other and it is so nice to feel the breeze without hearing the engines, or smelling the smokes.
