Yes, discrimination is alive and well in Abbotsford! The staff seem helpful except for big bald guy who treated us disrespectfully and unfairly. He talked down to us when we asked questions and kept walking over to our lane to watch us but was friendly and respectful to the 'other people'. My family wasnt loud and was respectful to other customers on both sides of us. We thought the big bald guy was just having a bad day but other customers even noticed how he was a bit of a bully by the way he stared at us and kept coming to our lane. Some customers even sympathized with us and recommended we take further action but I'd rather just warn people of what to expect. We don't play bowling often and we were hoping to get into bowling regularly but if we do it definitely won't be here unless that bald guy gets fired, retrained and takes a culture sensitivity course. In Canada, every person has the right to be free from racial discrimination and harassment. You should not be treated differently because of your race or other related grounds, such as your ancestry, colour, place of origin, ethnic origin, citizenship or creed. This is the cutest little bowling alley you will find…read more Alder Lanes used to be one of those sad old alleys that had stained carpets, and smelled vaguely of a time when you could smoke and drink as you bowled (ah those were the days). Last year they gutted and renovated the place. It is done up in "nouveau diner chic" complete with red leather stools and loud rock and roll. LOVE IT. Yay, you made it! The bowling alley is cute and cheap. Nothing you wouldn't expect with lanes, balls, shoe rentals, that funky "bowling alley" smell that they all have (it's charming, like sitting in an old library). And the price is right, so that's awesome. The adjacent bar is little more than a watering hole with the usual people propping up the bar to ensure it doesn't go anywhere. There's a pool table and on of the those punching bag game things. There used to be a foosball table but it retired about a year ago and according to the bar staff was "kind of super gross". We came super far out to Sandcastle for the 10 pin bowling. It was a super fun place. There are things that this place should consider improving: -The bowling balls were very dirty-- -We showed up on a Friday night at 8:30 pm and we were told that there were no lanes available until 9:30 pm. We asked if we can put our name down and we were told that its not doable. We were very confused. The staff there then told us to wait and then we were told there is a lane available. -The laser was faulty and didn't count the pins that were knocked down correctly -The ball got stucks a couple times and it took them 20 mins to fix. -Food was so so here but again they are not a restaurant At the end, we had a great time. There are free parking at front. This place is super busy so do make a reservation. Again, they do have 10 pins and 5 pins bowling. Good experience. They just need to improve the above. Their system looks high tech but we noticed we were not the only groups who were having issues. I would say we have a pretty good chance that we would come back.
