It wasn't too bright, or sweet. Just perfect. Meatballs were a little dense, but well formed and tasted well seasoned with herbs. The lasagna was also executed exceptionally. The slightly caramelized end bits of cheese were a chefs kiss. My 9 year old son described it as a "sweet succulent dinner". Bravo. Needing to stop downtown St. Cloud because my granddaughter needed a bathroom I decided to stop for a bite to eat but there weren't many choices on a Monday at 7pm so we went to the only open place on NEw York street; Chimentos. I haven't been there in years so glad we stopped. They have new ownership and somethings are the same like the great tasting salad dressing I always enjoyed but I thought the sauce was heartier and more delicious than the previous spaghetti sauce they had. We shared the spaghetti dinner which included 2 meatballs and a sausage link, salad and bread. It was a hearty portion and tasted delicious. For those who grew up going here, the recipes were very specific to this spot. I could get the best chicken-salad salad and my husband got an amazing ham roll. Kids loved the sauce. Since new owners purchased the restaurant, food quality has gone downhill significantly. Decided on a chicken alfredo this visit after looking over the menu. THe menu is a mix of pizza, pastas, and sandwiches. I was given a table number and sat at a table. I was brought bread and a delightful garlic butter. It was really good. The pasta arrived shortly afterwards. It was a good portion, creamy and delicious. An interesting note on their menu was that they offer a pizza of the week. They have a creative flavor that rotates weekly. That week it was chicken Marsala pizza. I've been coming here for many many years when Jim and Linda Chimento were the owners. Found out recently they turned over the rein's and the new owners have kept everything the same. I was not disappointed with my visit there today. The menu is the same and the food is delicious as usual. I was used to giving my order to Jim and being served my food by Linds but the ladies that took over those roles were very polite and attentive. Chimento's makes me feel like I walk out of St. Cloud and into New Jersey or Long Island. I love it. I had the gnocchi with sausage. Holy saucy goodness. This was so yummy and filling. I made sure to save sauce to bring home and slather on some biscuits. I usually come here because my kids love Italian and I do too but don't always want spaghetti (which always what they want.) Here we can all have what we love. The subs are good, the pizza is good, chicken parm is one of my faves. I have yet to find something here that does hit the spot. What really makes Chimento's a go to spot for me is the employees. They are always so kind. I watch their interactions with the array of people that come in and they are kind and genuine with everyone. Is Chimento's fine dinning? No. It doesn't need to be. Recently moved to the area and came here based off all the great reviews. So happy we did. The customer service was great, the food was even better. They brought out fresh soft bread with their garlic butter that was so delish! We had the cheese bread for starters and you can tell the mozzarella was so fresh. The establishment was nice and clean the owner asked me if I've been there before I told him yes and he thanked me for coming back. So I ordered a meatball and steak and cheese subs for dinner instead of pasta. The order took about 15 minutes. My husband and I shared dinner because they were huge. The steak sub was a little tough and oily, the meatball sub was delicious. Prices are about average, service and staff was good. Next time I go back I'll stick with the pasta and meatballs.
