This was our first visit to Chimi's. A severe storm rolled in at our niece's home and took out the power in the sub-division and surrounding area. We hoped Chimi's still had power and luckily they did. As you enter you see a colorful mural that surrounds the full bar area, dining room booths, tables, several T.V's and a gorgeous, large fountain. The entrance was congested because you pay at the counter almost directly in front of the door. So folks were constantly coming in and out. Don't confused the two groups in the entrance as folks waiting for a table. When we arrived it was extremely busy but we were seated immediately at an 8-top table not far from the entrance. Our server arrived quickly, was personable, friendly and knew the menu well. He took excellent care of us and never just disappeared, keep drinks refilled and removed empty dishes each time he passed our table. 5 star service. They have 21 premium tequilas and margaritas but our group ordered imported Mexican beers. The menu is extensive from starters through Fajita's. The 5 of us ordered our favorite entrees from burritos, nachos, fajita steak and chicken rice soup. The portions are large with pretty presentations. Everyone enjoyed their entrees with ratings from just average to excellent. I personally ordered the delicious Sopa de Pollo (Chicken Rice Soup) which arrived in a large bowl filled with at least one shredded chicken breast, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, rice and topped with sliced avocado. Even as good as it was, I ended up taking half of it home. I also ordered the fabulous flan topped with real whipped cream. My meal was excellent. We were grateful Chimi's was opened for beers and dinner plus having a pleasant, stress-free dinner experience while having time with our family. I would happily return. read more

Food was good but service was not very great at all. Environment was lackluster and beware of any use of coupons. There's so many around but none are good on weekends when most people would want to use them. You can tell there's been issues because a huge sign greets you upon arrival about how not to use coupons. With as empty as the restaurant was in a prime time Saturday night, I would welcome coupons to bring more people in. read more

I invited 3 friends to join me for dinner for my birthday. This was our first time at this location. I let our waiter, Chuy know it was my birthday upon arrival. Things were OK until we ordered a second round of drinks. It took 15-20 minutes and by that time I told another employee to tell our waiter to cancel the order. We were done with our food. On top of that I did not receive a birthday dessert, I did not get to wear the sombrero, and no one sang happy birthday to me. I was very disappointed. I definitely won't be returning to this location for any birthday festivities as it was very underwhelming. I have had a much different experience at another of their locations on a different date where the service was better and a friend's birthday celebration was fun and memorable. read more

We went here a couple of weeks ago. We noticed a sign that said there was a $1.50 charge for another basket of chips and salsa after the first one. We typically don't finish a basket, much less need more. Then the server brought the basket. The new baskets are half the size of the old ones. The server confirmed it was smaller. I asked if they were serving different chips too, as they definitely didn't taste the same. She told us no, but I don't think so. Our dinners were good, but the new charge for additional chips is a bit off putting, so I doubt we'll return. There are too many Mexican restaurants just as good. read more

Busy Friday night with a long hour+ line at the other restaurant we visited. Short line here. They get you in and out in a flash. We waited maybe 10minutes. Our food was also on our table in 10minutes. I love love love the corn cake and can't find it at a lot of Mexican restaurants. They also have fried ice cream, which is a favorite. My adventurous husband ordered the molcajete. Which is a lava rock mortar (pestle). Wow. Not spicy at all (I can't tolerate spice) and served boiling hot. I've never seen cactus on a menu. They offer complementary crispy tortilla chips with fresh salsa. Their interior is bright. Staff are Hispanic and friendly. Much like other local Mexican restaurants. We two halved a chimichanga combo that included--besides two beef chimis--retried beans, Spanish rice, a corn cake, and a small garnish (not quite a salad) of lettuce and sour cream. It was sufficient for a pair of not-so-hungry adults. The beef was nicely seasoned; the rice wasn't over cooked, the beans weren't dry, and the small corn cake had a fluffy texture. For anyone wondering im sitting eating here right now here, and just heard them sing happy birthday 2x now (Both wearing the sombrero). Food was excellent for being frozen food thrown on a grill. This place gives me the vibeo of a fast food mexican restaurant definitely better more authentic mexican restaurant then this. Chimi's is a local chain with three star food and five star service. The food is ok but it's your typical fare that you can get at any Mexican restaurant with nothing special on the menu, definitely edible but a little meh. The service on the other hand is terrific with super fast service and a very friendly wait staff particularly Alberto. It's nice inside with brightly cover walls and faux bricks breaking through the paint. The upside is their food is consistent the downside is it lacks imagination. We hosted an event here and I can't said enough great things!!! The service was absolutely incredible, Maria made me feel like we were family!! She was amazing keeping our drinks flowing, the food stocked and so delicious, we were able to do a simple set up, and we even went over our time and they were so incredibly patient!! I had the Parillada Mexicana - it was delicious! I ordered the single platter, but it's also available doubled. It was a mixed platter of pork, beef, (chorizo?) and chicken, served with rice, beans, sour cream and lettuce. Enough food for at least 2 people, without doubling! Definitely recommend! read more

I don't know how this place is in business. Chimi's is literally bottom of the barrel when it comes to Mexican restaurants. The only reason we dined in was the Groupon which they did not honor. There are literally several signs around the cash register yelling at customers about how they won't honor the Groupon they advertised. Place is dead Six o clock Saturday night should be a red flag. We asked for shrimp but was charged $1 per shrimp which was crazy because we have been to so many mexican restaurants never been charged for exactly the number of shrimps on the plate. Before my experience, I would have given Chimi's a 4 or 5 star, but I had a terrible experience hosting a party in their back room. We called 2 weeks prior to a 40th birthday party asking for the back room. Gave someone all of our info, name, number, and number of people attending. Upon arrival, the staff had no idea of our party and were very rude at wanting to accommodate us. At one point, telling us they will not do separate checks for our guests and suggested we "come back tomorrow" if we don't like it. Well, with 20-25 people attending, that was not an option. Our service was slow and tables that were also sharing our verbally rented space were getting much more attention from the staff then our party of 20. We had to get our own salsa/chips 15 minutes after guests arrived, get our own menus, and ask for silverware. We were clearly "unwanted guests" and treated like a burden. Upon getting our checks we were charged 25% gratuity on our bill. Their menu lists an 18% gratuity for parties of 10 or more. We were told we were being charged 1% for every guest. This is absolutely unheard of! They fixed this on our bills, but only after we noticed the large charge, complained, and showed them their own personal policy on the menu. I, personally, have never been treated so rudely by a restaurant. We will be finding a new Mexican restaurant, which makes me sad. read more

What can I say, it's not a 5 star restaurant, the service was not the best. First was taken to the wrong size table, as in was too small for our group. Second, we were given the chips, however it took more than a significant amount of time just to get our drinks orders in. When the waiter came, we gave both our drink order and food order. We got our drinks relatively quick after ordering them. However no straws were given with our drinks, so we had to ask. Significant time passed and we had to ask again for straws. There was not a lot of people in the restaurant, so it was not too incredibly busy. We finally got our food and straws. The food was not bad, the service and as you can see cleanliness of the bathroom was poor. Especially the cleaning chemicals being left out in the bathroom. First off, I'm from California and I'm not trying to brag but I've had VERY good Mexican food living there. I'm a transplant and have been on the search for a decent Mexican restaurant and I finally found it here!!!!!! Their molcajete's is AMAZING! Very flavorful. My kids shared a chicken quesadilla and it was juicy chicken, not dry! Their salsa is pretty tasty too. Well my review won't unfortunately be 100% accurate as I am still in the middle of the food poisoning I received from this restaurant. First off I learned the definition of thumb salsa as the waiter had his thumb in the salsa as he brought it to the table. Secondly Carné Asada was ready in three minutes cold. How you ask? Was craving Mexican food, but didn't wanna take the kids out and didn't want to cook so I called Chimi's to place a carry out order. We got cheese dip, mixed Fajitas, combo fajitas, 2 extra orders of tortillas, chimi chicken dinner, & chicken quesadilla. Everything was great, but not a fan of the chicken quesadilla because shredded chicken is used for the quesadilla which was a wet mess by the time we got it home. No big deal because we had way too much food anyways. Overall everyone is full and satisfied and the order was correct which is usually hard to come by when ordering carry out. And both times it was this chimis location and dealt with the most rude manager his Name is Marlo. He is so rude even when you do eat there to all the patrons and has the owner fooled.
