As West Coasters finding decent Mexican food is a literally rough for my husband and I. We are often craving quick service carne asada fries but this place had something similar - super fries. It was okay, but the fries weren't as crispy as we were hoping. The street tacos were great though AND their breakfast burrito. First, let me say that I love that there is a Mexican restaurant open near us until 3am. My wife ordered the fajitas which is what I usually order and they are absolutely, delicious. I ordered a diablo steak burrito and... Well, let's just say I have a new second favorite item on their menu. The staff always greets you with kindness which to tell you the truth, makes it taste even better. My only hang up was that they put French fries on the burrito and don't give an option to keep them off. Aside from that, I highly recommend dripping in to give this place a try. read more

First time here and was pleasantly surprised on how clean, organized and efficient this business is. They have a large menu and I chose a taco and a tostada for the first visit. The meat was seasoned perfectly and plenty of on the items and they have a sauce/ salsa area so you can choose what you like. Next time I will be more adventurous. read more

I thought I would check out, Abelardo's Mexican rRestaurant that is more of a fast food joint than a restaurant, located in St Peters. While the restaurant, the decor, and its spacious dining area looked great, I only wished I could say the same for the their food. While the presentation of their food looked appetizing, the food itself was very bland. It had no flavors, no spices, or any sauce to add, "heat," to it. I will say, the service was super fast, but with a few added spices, they could have customers rushing to eat faster. read more

Ordered take-out. Good size portions of most items including street tacos and entrees(such as chimichanga). Burritos were good as well, although a bit smaller than you would expect in regards to the other items. Everyone enjoyed their food! Only complaint was that the churro was a major disappointment. It's not often I would say that in a review and it sounds really mean, but my impression was low quality food that was over priced and underwhelming, in terms of flavor and texture. I rully, rully wanted to like it. I was super excited about it. And that quickly turned to super disappointment. I did not like the Horchata. I did not like the fish tacos. The fish was breaded and seemed like it traveled from freezer to microwave to plate. I asked for them on flour and they came on corn tortillas. My mother got the fajitas and they were a mess. The quality of the food was terrible and considering the price, the experience sucked overall. The only redeeming quality was the decor. It's freaking gorgeous inside! Prior to opening, the location was a very crappy Burger King and there are still comical remnants of it. I drove by and their sign caught my eye. Their location is right off interstate 70 and they have a private parking lot. Apparently this is a small chain located in several Midwestern states. I had eaten dinner at another establishment but I'm a sucker for fresh churros. I ordered via the drive-thru. The only thing I ordered were churros and they were quite good. Highly recommend!! Extensive menu with a stacked salsa bar and all the drinks you can find in a California Mexican spot- Horchata, Jamaica, etc. Large portions, fresh food and fast! You order at the front and they bring it out to you. Tons of booth and table options. They also have a drive thru. Prices are more than fair. I had chicken fajitas and chips and guac. This is one of my new favorite spots for sit down Mexican restaurant grade food and quality but the convenience of a drive through. Watch out for the salsa used for chips. It's creeping hot and catches up but alarming if you don't like spicy and heat. I do! lol The torta; a Mexican sandwich with an artisan bun vs tortilla, is totally outstanding!!! Very good food and good for the price! They stay open very late which is nice since there's not many places around here that do. I've been here numerous times and it's always been great- no complaints! St. Peter's got a special restaurant for everyone. Abelardo's opened a second location in STL sand boy is it a great day!! For anyone whose experienced west coast Mexican food Abelardo's is more than just a a great meal, it's a great experience! Unlike the STL location, Abelardo's has inside seating as well as drive thru and take out. Abelardo's had an extensive menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner items that are consistent, reasonably priced and generous portions! I do want give a shout out to the salsa bar, several types of salsa for every pallet who may or may not enjoy spicy! We're from the west coast and tried our go to's menudo, quesabirra tacos and a chorizo breakfast plate. All dishes were made to order and serve hot and perfectly seasoned! Seating area was very clean and tables were serviced quickly. We visited on a Saturday and found plenty of seating. Overall great experience visiting Abelardo's and hope anyone interested in great food, give them a visit! read more

FINALLY a West Coast taco shop comes to St Louis! I was so happy to stumble on this place. The rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese, the churros and the horchata! All the way I remember them from the Southwest. The salsa bar with its various styles and heats. I've been waiting a long time for this and now we have one. Once you try this place you'll never want Taco Bell (and many local Mexican sit down restaurants) again. Great food at great prices. Dine in and take out (with a drive thru) available. Stuck between whether to give this spot three or four stars I wondered if I'd recommend Abelardo's to a friend, Considering there are other full service Mexican places and a Taco Bell nearby, probably not. This fast food Mexican eatery has a large and varied menu. It's authentic fare so don't expect a burger. With two combination entrees and a tea at $30 for lunch, it's a tad above fast food pricing. After placing our counter order, our enchilada and taco meals with rice and beans came up quickly. Chips were delivered at the table. A variety of sauces were available. All good until we dipped into our food. Nothing...sparkled. My companion and I both agreed the food wasn't bad, but it just wasn't enticing either. The steak in the tacos was overcooked, rice and beans were bland. Fiery hot sauce and regular red salsa had about the same heat--not much. A roasted sauce had little taste at all. Greasy chips had no seasoning and left a pool of oil in the bottom of the basket. The former Burger King has been remodeled nicely and is light and comfortable. I looked up late night spots in stl one night, and this spot popped up. There are 2 locations, but I went to the location in St. Peter's. There's a drive thru and they're open to 3am, well atleast on Saturdays. I got the little nachos with chicken and a side of queso. I feel like it was overpriced and lacked a lot of flavor for the amount of ingredients that were in them. The service wasn't bad and they made my food quickly, but I'd probably get something cheaper or share with another person. I wasn't able to go inside to get the ambiance of the restaurant, but from my drive thru line it seemed like your typical drive thru spot. read more

The Taco Tuesday deal really is unmatched. 5 tacos for 5.99 before tax, and they are big tacos!! Even if the line is long, I find it goes pretty fast and the food is always fresh. I've had their nachos, quesadilla, tacos, and their bean burrito which is massive. Where do I start? We could have gotten a sit down Mexican meal for the price we paid for this. It's a step above taco bell and that's about it. Their fajitas were not very good, they cut their meat so small it was hard to even tell if it's even chicken. The green Chile burrito was certainly different than any I'd ever had. The service at the counter ordering was ok, they did bring the food out, that went ok too, but other than that, it's Taco Bell. Avoid at all costs!!! Our first impression of the parking lot should've been our warning to leave, but we didn't. The exterior where there was a previous outdoor seating area when it was another restaurant looks very run down with lots of weeds growing up through the concrete several feet high and pieces of broken concrete that someone could trip over! However, we made the mistake of still going in because our teenagers were starving and most things nearby were closed. The ordering is done at a kiosk which as first timers there was difficult to understand since their menu is a little different than most Mexican places and we had questions and also wanted to make substitutions and couldn't figure out how to do it with the kiosk. We also have one teen that's a vegetarian and she wanted an entree that came with beef and eggs item and we couldn't figure out on the kiosk how to specify no meat. The workers were all behind the kitchen window and could clearly see we were struggling and made no effort to try and help us. I finally told my husband I just wanted to leave and at that point a young girl came out from behind the kitchen and asked if we had any questions. We told her our specifications and she said you can't do that on the kiosk you have to just order it like it is and then tell us you don't want meat. How would we have known that? Plus, I think it's unfair that people still get charged the same price when you're omitting the meat from an entree when it's the most costly part of the item. Some of the items we ordered included a chicken quesadilla with shredded chicken instead of grilled pieces, carne asada torta, beef burrito and taco plate with no beef or egg as it apparently came with eggs, and a bean and cheese burrito with extra sour cream with a side of Spanish rice. While waiting for our food we went over to this make shift salsa bar that looked like a Covid germ nightmare. There were two very funny young guys at the salsa bar with us and even they were making comments about how the salad bar looked. It was VERY QUESTIONABLE! Unless you're looking to get sick, I'd stay far away from the salsa bar. Once our food came, the extra sour cream we paid for on our burrito was missing, the beef burrito and taco plate with no meat or eggs that was still full price even without meat had meat, the Spanish rice was dried out and crunchy and the carne asada torta was the blandest torta I've ever had! I was scared to get salsa off the bar to flavor the torta and when I asked the counter for something to improve it they seemed shocked it was flavorless. I also brought to their attention the other issues and the young girl just said, "what do we need to do?" I said we need it remade with no meat. It says right on the receipt no meat or eggs yet it has both on it. Then when I asked for extra sour cream on the burrito she just handed me a tiny little cup of sour cream on the side that we were charged $.99 for. My daughter wanted it prepared inside her burrito just like the normal sour cream came prepared on it. The guys behind the kitchen counter prep window were giggling and looking at me as if we were the worst customers of the night. They took my sandwich back and slapped mayo on it! It was so oily from all the extra mayo that I couldn't even eat it. The sour cream side for my daughter was obviously not what we had in mind and when they remade the vegan plate, they still had it wrong again. They put eggs on it, but did manage to leave off the beef. At this point we just gave up. The only thing that I can honestly say was prepared right and actually was a large portion size with good flavor was the chicken quesadilla. Other than that, we will not be coming back here. They also don't give out chips and salsa like most Mexican places nor do they wait on your table. It's basically like a Taco Bell where you do all the work, but in my opinion Taco Bell which is generally junk is better than this place. Maybe I'm spoiled as I've lived in Southern California and have had the pleasure of eating good Mexican, but this place shouldn't be able to call themselves Mexican food and the health department should be over there checking out some of the conditions both inside and outside especially that salsa bar. read more

At first I thought maybe I had Covid because I couldn't taste anything but then I realized it was just impressively bland, not sure how you remove flavor from food but somehow it's been done. Spent over $26 but couldn't finish anything I ordered nor did I take it to go as I would most definitely leave it in the fridge to mold. Good riddance to the old Burger King, welcome to St. Peters, Ablerados. This is a quick service Mexican restaurant in the old Burger King on the corner of Veterans Memorial and Jungermann. The menu is quite vast for a place where you order at the counter. Burritos, Nachos, Tacos, Taquitios, Breakfast and more. Make sure you grab plastic ware from the shelf above the salsa bar as your food is not delivered with forks/knives, etc. speaking of the salsa bar, there are a number of choices but they are not labeled in any way. I was grateful for the lady who came up for more and she gave me a couple tips. The greet (tomatillo) salsa has a good flavor, not spicy at all. The traditional red salsa had the slightest of kicks. The other two in my salsa photo: the top two are thin red (I definitely detect cinnamon), last orange-red (most heat of the ones that I tried). I really appreciate having a variety of choices. The guacamole was not my favorite. It was totally smooth, pureed baby food consistency and it did not have a ton of flavor. The atmosphere was clean and clearly updated from the old BK. Nice wide spaces between the tables, so no issues accessing the dining area for those who use mobility devices. I must agree with an earlier review, the dining room was very warm, I took off my hoodie before I came in and I was glad I did. The portions were ample and my combination was served with chips. I ordered #19, taquitios and a side of guacamole and a medium drink. My total was $17 and some change. The cost seems high for a non sit-down restaurant, but given the current state of our economy, it is not horribly outside what I would expect. The food is tasty, good seasoning, not spicy. The beans are deliciously creamy and the rice is moist and fluffy. The staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. They did a great job. I will definitely be back. read more

They're open! The Burger King that was at this location has been recycled into an Abelardo's. The interior has been very nicely redone. The booths in the dining room are much nicer than I would have expected. The only cut corners I noticed were the Burger King logo on one of the doors and the black painted ceiling tiles. Black does go with the theme they have in the dining room, but you can tell that paint is covering up some stains if you look closely. It looked like they replaced the roof right before they opened, so I'm sure the cause of all those stains has been fixed. They'll probably get around to replacing the tiles eventually. Service is fast and friendly. The food is excellent and affordably priced. It's a very large menu and picking just one thing to try is going to be a challenge. Don't try. Get one of the combos or assemble your own meal a la carte. You get a lot of bang for your buck here. I should take a star off for the dining room being so warm on a hot day, but...Winter is coming. Hopefully they get that figured out and fixed by next summer. It was fine up by soda fountain and salsa bar, so they may just need to tweak the vents. read more
