I'm really sad to have to do this but I think people should be warned. La Tapatía has been my favorite in the area for quite a while. I love their food. However, an incident happened recently that has now complicated my love for them. I ordered two burritos for delivery recently and one ended up being wrong. It was supposed to be a Burrito Americano with shredded chicken, something I've had before. What came had ground beef and no red sauce, so I figured it was an entirely different burrito and called to let them know mine might have been swapped with someone else's. I understood that there was a good chance it wasn't getting replaced because I couldn't drive up to get another one, and yes that ended up being the case, but what got me was the guy on the phone said "oh sorry, on our tablets where we receive orders, we couldn't see that you made a meat selection so we just chose one." I confirmed that wasn't the case on my end. So one, that's crazy. Two, we've ordered from them before and that hasn't been a problem. Three, if that's true, how am I supposed to trust that I'll ever get what I ordered? So I don't know if they're not taking responsibility for their mix up for if they have a new system that's going to cause a lot of issues. But either way, I'm not thrilled and I'm probably done with them. read more

This is an average Mexican restaurant. Food was served hot and fresh, but nothing extraordinary. Lunch portions are pretty small, and I guess you only get one basket of chips and one bottle of salsa at lunch. No refills. The server was attentive and the restaurant was clean. read more

Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 I ordered steak fajitas and they came out hot, but the pan was missing the signature sizzle. Unfortunately the veggies were super greasy, but I did appreciate the red bell peppers - I like them a lot better than green bell pepper. The tortillas were thicker than I like them but the salsa was above average with fresh cilantro. The restaurant was clean and was less than half full on Saturday night, but we were there pretty early before a movie. There was only one server and she was also the bartender so it took a while for our order to be taken but she did a great job the rest of the time. The music they were playing wasn't the typical Mexican restaurant music and it was more like EDM/high energy pop which was being played way too loud and was weird. LOL. This restaurant is on par for the typical Mexican American restaurant with a few unexpected menu items such as ceviche tostadas. I think I would like to try something like that next time, but we wanted to try the basics for our first visit. read more

My nine-year-old demanded I post this review. I'm not usually in St. Charles very often, but on this fortuitous day I found myself at a ball game in the area. My husband requested tacos for lunch and a brief yelp viewing pointed us in the direction of La Tapatia. Located in an unassuming strip mall, this Mexican restaurant has some authentic eats and Americanized items as well. My son thought his chicken fingers and fries were outstanding- but that's not why we're here... Husband ordered a taco plate with the choice of two meats. He ordered the lengua (only available on weekends) and al pastor. The tacos were filled to the brim, the meats were flavorful, and the tortillas were the star. Honestly, i can't remember having better tortillas; they were so fresh and melted in the mouth! I had the quesabirria tacos because I'm basic at times. These were not basic tacos. They were massive and loaded with cheese, onions, and cilantro. The chips and salsa were good also; chips were substantial for dipping and salsa was fresh and smoky. I almost forgot that we ordered a chile relleño as an appetizer. It was delicious and its sauce was also chunky and fresh. Our waitress was awesome, our food came out quickly, and everything was terrific. I couldn't imagine a way to improve this restaurant. If you're in the area, I highly recommend La Tapatia, and my family does too! read more

Update review as of 6/5/24. Convenient location in St Charles which had a full bar area, daily lunch specials and is family friendly. The steak tacos were delicious as was the taco salad Definitely works a visit and we will be back. read more

Food was good. The live music was good but it was loud and made it hard to talk. The restaurant was clean and service was good.

Service was 10/10. We were able to get seated right away. It's basic but their arroz con pollo is amazing! I wish they did have some more chicken on the top but the amount of queso all over was worth it. Their margaritas are SO strong, i highly recommend!! read more

First time here, and it did not disappoint! The chips were fresh, and the smoky salsa was delicious. I had a Guava Margarita and the Carnitas--while the rice and beans were excellent, the carnitas were just okay; I've had better. My husband had the Fello Burrito, and the queso it was drenched in was so good we could have licked the plate. Outstanding across the board. Dinner on a Wednesday night started with chips and fresh salsa, and we ordered queso and guacamole. All were great! My wife , two kids, and I got tacos al la carte (x2) and "choose 2" (x2) (burrito/quesadilla and taco with rice and beans). Again- all were awesome. Drinks were good. Service was top notch.
