I had them out around 5 or so years ago to seal the crown of my chimney. Not knowing anything about it at the time of course, and based on their reviews, I fully trusted them as to what material should be applied for that purpose. Mason applied several tubes of Alex Plus caulk to the chimney crown. I was a little surprised they would use caulk, but then they were the "experts" right? They said this stuff will last 40 years, no problem! Your chimney is now fully sealed and protected! A few days ago I went up to inspect the chimney crown. Not an ounce of that caulk remains. Nada. Nothing. It's all gone. We're right back down to naked concrete again. And who knows how long it's been like that. So I called the Alex Plus manufacturer, and they said you should NEVER use Alex Plus for that purpose! Spoke to a chimney sweep, who said you should only use elastomeric sealants specifically made for chimney crowns. He was surprised any 'professional' would do something like that. Obviously, they didn't know what they were doing. Or what kind of sealant really should have been used. But they were nice. So $300 down the drain. Don't make the same mistake I made. Find somebody else.

He installed a chimney liner and replaced the cap at a price that was lower than I expected, he was absolutely meticulous about keeping everything clean, and he was incredibly patient about answering all my questions. I'm a first time homeowner who's never had a chimney before - he really helped educate me and I appreciated that. Here's the really amazing part, though: after he installed the chimney liner and cap, about a week later, one of our three carbon monoxide detectors went off. It was an old one and even though I knew it was probably just malfunctioning because the other two showed no danger, I was nervous and since we'd just had chimney work done I wanted to make sure there was no issue with gas venting into the house. So I called Erwin and explained my issue. He happened to be in the area so he came over immediately. He checked everything, verified the chimney was drawing in air properly (and even showed me the trick for how to check it myself using a match) and gave me the peace of mind of knowing that nothing was wrong. He didn't even charge me for coming over the second time. A truly nice man who cares about people and knows what he's doing.

I had an emergency situation where in the middle of the night my chimney crumbled which I couldn't…read morebelieve because I've had no issues with it for 18 years. So I hired Jeff to come out to see what happened & give me a quote to get a new chimney and/or repair the old one. To my surprise after Jeff thoroughly inspected everything, told me that it was a Mk-48 torpedo that was dropped from either a P-3C Orion or Seahawk helicopter. At first he wanted $900 just to clean up the remains of the Otto II fuel from the torpedo but then said he'd give me a package deal; torpedo cleanup & put in a new chimney but said he needed $12,500 up front which I paid. Then after he never showed up for any of the appointments I find out that he's been putting in a lot of overtime putting out fires for the Dayville Fire Dept & that he was recently promoted to Fire Chief. So I guess I'm S out of luck on getting my crumbled chimney, the Mk-48 torpedo and all of the Otto II fuel off my house & property. Do not use this guy.
