I have never left a bad review before for any company but my experience has been so awful I find it necessary. DO NOT RECOMMEND! The owner (Richard Balliger) claimed my fireplace was unsafe and that it would cost $30k (or more) to repair or $5k to install an electric fireplace (they also said the flue was very dirty and recommended it be cleaned, which they did not actually do themselves during their visit - it would be an additional charge on a return visit). I asked numerous questions about what they found an issue with as their diagnoses did not make sense to me (we have a gas fireplace). They also did not even bother to inspect the actual chimney from the roof (I had hired them for a hefty fee to inspect both the fireplace and the chimney - how do you do one without the other?). After getting the run around and asking for a detailed estimate that was never provided, I contacted another inspection company and told them what Chimney Saviors had advised me - the new company come out, performed a detailed inspection of both the fireplace and (from the roof) the chimney and said the fireplace, flue, chimney were all in great shape (the flue did not even need to be cleaned) and the only thing they suggested was to replace the metal flashing/chase at the top of the chimney to bring it up to current code requirements (for a total cost of only $1k). read more

He then came out to inspect my chimney and presented quotes for different options. The original contractor who remodeled our house installed our new fireplaces. The venting looked really sketch. It had tape and a ton of screws around it. Naturally, I questioned the work that he did. My dad works for building and safety and took a look and told us that we would have basically died of carbon monoxide poisoning the way that it was originally setup and could have possibly caused a fire. Really serious stuff. Chimney Saviors came out. Their staff was extremely friendly. They installed new ventilation in 2 days and cleaned up after themselves. Very professional and nice people. If I could give this a negative star I would. On Friday May 26th I called this place to make an appt. the guy on the phone said to text him with my request and he would process it. On Saturday I texted him to confirm. No answer. On Sunday he texted back and said the day/time would be fine and Richard SR would call me to confirm. Tuesday they Day of the appt I haven't heard anything. I called Richard SR and he said that we didn't have an appt. I then called the so called 'office'. The man on the phone said he would never confirm a time when it wasn't working hours. My time never changed. It was always 5:00pm. I told him I have allll the texts he sent me. Then he was trying to say he didn't read the text carefully. This is very unprofessional. If you can't do it fine. Don't confirm and string someone along and say it's confirmed and use that they didn't read the text carefully to not show up for the appt. All of us are busy, and had to set a time aside in my day to go. There are better inspectors out there. Use them instead. read more

They came twice to my house and were amazing...did not overcharge and were cheaper to sweep my chimney then the competition. For years, we have used another company to clean our chimney, and I have recommended them to others. No longer. When I called re: a stuck damper, they sent a guy out who couldn't access the damper (high up in our chimney) because the cap on the chimney was stuck on and said he'd have to send another guy. Both the appointment person on the phone and the second guy who came out said the first guy is still training.... Fine. But then the second guy informed me that accessing our damper due to a stuck cap on the chimney would likely require replacing both the cap and the damper. They also both said our chimney had a dangerous level of creosote (the sticky stuff) and needed a deep chemical clean, which requires 4-5 visits. All that was estimated to require about $2,800 and take a couple weeks (during the holidays!) of no chimney use. I got recommendations (from three different people) for Chimney Saviors. Thanks to a cancellation, they came out the day after I called. They not only accessed the damper and fixed it (without damaging the cap), they assured me that the chimney doesn't have remotely the amount of creosote that would require a chemical clean. They charged $330 for a cleaning and the repairs to the damper. We didn't tell Chimney Saviors we had an estimate from someone else -- we simply said "the damper's stuck." And they fixed it, and cleaned the chimney. Easy peasy. ALWAYS get a second opinion on chimney repairs. read more

This is a two-part review. First, long overdue but we brought JR in as a second bidder for chimney repair as we were having a smoke leak. First bidder essentially wanted to tear out walls and rebuild chimney from scratch (in a 10 yo house) and Chimney Saviors fixed the problem in a morning with no more smell of smoke. We brought them back to a house we were remodeling in Highland Park in Fall/Winter 2015. After having three different chimney/fireplace companies look at my fireplace, Richard from Chimney Saviors was the only one who correctly diagnosed the problem (didn't say I needed a completely new firebox and chimney, for $12,000, as another company did). Two guys from Chimney Saviors came out and fixed the problem, painted the firebox, cut the chimney walls to correct what had been done incorrectly, and installed a beautiful gas system, embers, logs, grate and all. I am selling my house and received the chimney estimation conducted by Richard. The buyers used the estimation to request for credit. From the items listed on the repair report, I felt that the total cost was a little high. The chimney has been in working condition and I was pretty sure the repair should be minor. I called Richard to get more information of his estimation. He did not address my question nor disclose more details. He said the buyer paid the inspection and I need to obtain authorization first. Which makes sense, however, he was quite arrogant over the phone and insisted that this is industry specialty. and that I would not understand it even though he explain to me what the fix will be. Further more, if the fire get out of chimney from the crack, it may cause fire hazard to the house. MY agent sent me a document and tried to ask us to agree on the credit requested. I decided to get a second opinion for the chimney repair. I hired a reputable local company. It turned out that the estimation from Chimney Saviors is THREE times higher. I had Chimney Saviors come out to check my fireplace and chimney after getting an expensive , half measured overview from the company used for my home inspections while in escrow. Chimney Saviors charges around $300 for the inspection so be prepared but you will receive a full report including camera videos- and the transparency of what needs to be done is worth it. As a result, I hired them; they scheduled me within the week and they repaired and prepped my chimney and fireplace cleanly and in a morning. When it was time to light a fire in my new home- an old home- I was sure there would be issues, but NONE whatsoever! It worked and has been working perfectly! Work for us included an initial estimate followed by completion of a chimney cleaning, crack repairs to the mantel & fireplace surround, and a conversion from wood burning to gas. These guys are great! They came out to inspect our chimney when we were in escrow. Two other companies had quotes us $18K for a chimney rebuild and $4K to make the fireplace safe to use, but Chimney Saviors came out and quoted $1700 to put a coating on the chimney and restore it to workable condition. When we were ready to do the work (5 months after the initial inspection), they were available to do the job that same week. They arrived and completed the work in less than 3 hours. They provided us with a grate, a chimney cover and gas key, and even offered to patch up a crack on the exterior chimney wall on the side of the house. Even though I couldn't find the paint, they found it and patched it up for me. The service comes with a 10 year warranty and now we have a beautifully working fireplace just in time for the Fall/winter. Highly recommend! read more

I just met Richard from Chimney Saviors at a property that has a chimney built from the 1950's. He was on time, thorough and is the chimney inspection company that I have ever seen build a fire to see how it works. I would highly recommend him. My 89 year old mother called Richard to come out to the house because she thought the wind that was coming through her chimney was the result of it missing a cap. Richard explained to her and then later to me that that all we had to do to block the wind was close the flue. Richard did come out to the house to put a cap on her chimney to bring it up to code. He arrived on time and completed the work quickly. While on top of her house, Richard noted that a tree had grown close to the chimney and was a potential fire hazard. He also came in the house to look at the flue for me as I had been unable to close it. After attempting to close the flue, Richard explained that it had fused and would need to be replaced. He also noted that the chimney was very dirty. I'm not sure it has ever been cleaned. He recommended not using the fireplace until the necessary work had been completed. He did not in any way pressure my mom to do the work but gave her an estimate that he said he would honor through April. I found Richard to be a very kind and honest man. I look forward to having him come back and complete the additional work. read more
