Chimney Experts did an amazing job on our two fireplaces. We had never used our fireplaces before and the previous owner had only used wood. We hired Chimney Experts to install gas logs in both fire places and clean them up. Both fireplaces looked like they hadn't been cleaned / coated in a while. Chimney Experts came in with 3 people and gave both fireplaces a serious upgrade. Only took them a 1/2 day. The new coating made them look brand new. The suggestions they made on the log set for one and crushed glass in the other worked out really well. They also installed the gas installation on both. It's looking great and we've been using the fireplaces every night for the past 2 weeks. Great service! Two guys came out - showed up on time. Quickly determined one of my fireplaces needed a part that was obsolete and would have to be replaced however there was no pressure to do so. The Chimney Experts saved our lives! Well maybe not literally but it sure felt like it! It all started innocently enough, I was home and thoroughly enjoying my first excuse to turn on the fireplace at the sign of any weather below 60 degrees! As I was upstairs pretending to be productive but really just getting some quick shut eye before the kids got home, I start smelling smoke! Then I start SEEING smoke! They did not give an honest evaluation of my chimney. Overpriced. Whatever inspection they do for you, get a second opinion; do not trust their evaluations! They were hired by a buyer at my property and their images were enlarged out of proportion to make two small seams in the metal lining appear larger than reality. They presented this to my buyer making him believe that my chimney is unsafe. They estimated $3200 in repairs which are not necessary. I had a second inspection & evaluation by another licensed chimney company. All items were found to be satisfactory. The other company has an honest reputation & reported that my Chimney & fireplace are safe & in good condition, not requiring any repairs. read more

Engaged company to repair my town and country fireplace. Upon calling them the office confirmed they were an authorized dealer. After a month of runaround about how Town and Country would not respond to them to get the part I needed I reached out and T&C and they responded with an hour. They do not sell parts directly to consumers and only to authorized dealers. Chimney Experts then tells me they are not an authorized dealer and cannot get parts. Don't waste your time with this company. Save yourself the aggravation and deceitful practices of this company. They are now threatening to place a lien on the home for rendering services that were never rendered. read more

Truly a terrible experience. A 3 day job took weeks. They had to take the siding off twice because they did the work incorrectly. Each time I was first told that they did it right, then i would send a video of what it looked like and I was told that the owner can't believe what his employees did. He would fake shock and horror and say he would fix it himself. Then he's sit in his truck while his employees did it wrong again. It was truly insane. Once they left and I had someone out to inspect the work, I ended up having to pay more to have it fixed. Not to mention having to pay to have it professionally painted after they used the wrong color then barked at me that it didn't match because my paint job was just "old paint" (it had been painted two months prior. They simply used the wrong color paint) and we're now fixing the three places they stained the floor with paint. Their work is atrocious and the treatment is worse. I was lied to, given every excuse, barked at, then gaslit about the whole situation. Worst part? They didn't cap the gas line to a now non functional fireplace (something that was in the contract) leaving it unsafe. Something else I had to pay to have fixed. read more

I've held off on writing a review of this company because I really don't enjoy writing bad reviews. I'd rather tell people about a great company than about a bad experience. But honestly, my experience with The Chimney Experts was so bad and I am unfortunately reminded of it every time I sit in my living room and look at my chimney. First off, they ran several weeks late beyond when they told me they'd be done. And on top of that, the owner had the nerve to ask me for payment in advance of the schedule we'd agreed to in our work contract because it was taking so long and he needed to pay his workers. Oh, the workers who only show up about 50% of the time that they say they will? You need me to pay you the last payment early to pay those guys? Fantastic. I can be a bit of pushover sometimes, and agreed to pay him some of the final payment, because I was worried if he couldn't "pay his guys" I'd be left with an unfinished chimney at the end of the experience. But the fact that he asked at all told me everything I needed to know to confirm that I'd made a big mistake in hiring them for the job. Okay, now for the worst of it... I have an original Batchelder fireplace mantel from the 20's. It was one of our favorite things about the home when we purchased it. But in order for us to feel safe, and to be able to use our fireplace (on rare exceptions... mostly just holiday time), we needed to fix the chimney which was cracked. This included taking it down quite far and rebuilding. In order to keep the soot from covering our entire house (something it did anyway), Greg and his crew taped plastic over the fireplace opening as well as the entryway to our dining room... and they used duct tape. That's right duct tape directly onto original, untouched Batchelder tile. It ripped the original paint right off and now we have a duct tape strip that spans several tiles across the middle of our fireplace. But wait, it gets better! The wall also lost its paint to the duct tape. Greg then said he'd fix it by repainting that entire wall. He said he used to be a painter. Not only was the paint job worse than anything we could have done ourselves, complete with rippled paint along the line where the walls meet the ceiling (made even more obvious because we have gorgeous original crown molding there), but he broke one of the wall sconces while doing the work. I spent several hours trying to find a replacement sconce that matched the two still on the wall and we were fortunate enough to find one, but it was the most accurate depiction of a bull in a china shop I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the china shop was my home and I just kept wondering what was going to be broken next. The good news... at least my chimney works now and it hasn't fallen in. Plus Greg has a very sweet and charming personality, which makes it even more difficult to write something negative. However... The bad news, I spent over 10K... the most I've spent on anything ever outside of my home, car and education... and I see evidence of their shoddy work whenever I look at that Batchelder tile, as well as the sloppy stucco work they did on the exterior of the chimney. If I could do it all again, I'd pay the extra couple of grand and go with the other quote I got for the project. It would have been worth it. And as much as I truly don't like giving bad reviews... I wish there was a Yelp review to warn ME back before I signed a contract with these guys. read more

Not very happy with the customer that was provided. I booked an appointment approximately 1-2 weeks ago. I was called approximately 1-2 hours prior to my appointment, and told that an emergency had come up and the workers would be on it for a while. I was offered to be "placed on call" for that day. I explained to the representative that i took the day off for the appointment. I was then offered an appointment for 8am the next morning . I told the representative I would have to call back (had to check on work). To shorten this story, after the call back I was told I could be placed "on call" and the next day appointment was gone. Later I was told the workers wouldnt make, and the next appointment available would be weeks out. Very interesting my business wasnt important enough to fit me in sooner. I understand that emergencies happen, but some accommendations should have been made for a sooner appointment especially since I mentioned thay I took the day off for the appointment. I needed a chimney inspection done on a home I recently purchased, and after not much looking around, I decided to give the chimney experts a call. As soon as we got started, I was told by Greg, the owner, I'd need to sleeve the interior of the chimney with stainless steel. The chimney was an old brick chimney, and I was told unless the bricks were 8" thick, I'd need to sleeve them to protect the home from damage from the heat. While I'm being told all of this, Greg's younger assistant comes down from the roof with good news, "the bricks are 8" thick". I'm relieved that I will not be having to spend all the extra money to sleeve the chimney, only until Greg continues to insist that it would need to be sleeved either way, and that he would be able to do it for me. He even tried to convince me to push my agent to just get the seller to pay for the job. To top it off, because my chimney had a double sided fireplace, he charged me $400 instead of $250 for looking on the other side of the fireplace for about 3 whole minutes. Upsell, upsell, upsell. I wouldn't recommend these guys. read more

Do not let them into your house. They will charge you just to find out what the problem is, then order a replacement part, then charging you again for that visit after finding out the wrong piece was ordered.Then return in a month to install part after finding out that wasn't the problem. After scratching his head, he thinks it's the sensors and orders new sensors. Another 3 weeks go by and comes back and installs sensors then he hears something pop and burning. He blew the transformer. I told him to kindly to leave. I swear I better not get billed for that visit. How I would correct this? Company pay for transformer to keep customer. read more

We ended up using The Chimney Experts due to the competitive quote amount (approx. $3800) and the stated warranty on the labor. Scheduling the service (2 step process: first to chemically clean the chimney, second to repair cracks, resurface interior, add spark arrester and damper) was great, especially since there were several issues complicating life at the moment: closing escrow, completion of termite tenting, getting gas turned back on. First I want to say that I can only imagine whoever gave these guys a 5 star review has some sort of arrangement made with them. Having recently purchased a home and doing some renovations I contacted the Chimney Experts for a quote on a fireplace removal and remodel. This would end up being the *biggest* mistake of the entire process. There's not enough space to write down all the issues we had. Their "10 day job" ended up taking 6 weeks and throwing our entire remodel off schedule. We actually had a single contractor re-do an entire bathroom with plumbing and electrical in the time it took these guys to "finish." Greg, the owner, quoted and missed no less than FOUR deadlines throughout the job. The crew would show up around noon and leave by about 3:30 on the days they actually showed up. They would constantly hit "snags" like needing a gas line moved or having electrical put in. In both cases we ended up contacting our own electricians and plumbers and getting both "snags" resolved in less than 24 hours as to avoid any more excuses. We learned very quickly that the only way to get our fireplace finished with these guys was to call and actually show up daily to babysit them. Despite giving them multiple photos and measurements as to what we wanted nobody seemed to ever be clear on what the finished product was supposed to be. This included them: - Putting the framing for the fireplace at a different height than we requested because they thought it "looked better." - Removing an electrical outlet without asking us. - Thinking they could leave the fireplace area unfinished as we apparently said we were going to tile everything. (We had never even looked at tiles). Given all the constant hand-holding we were at least holding out for a decent finished product. What we got was an uneven ugly monolith disaster in our living room. The finished job is so uneven that when we went to put down new baseboard the nails wouldn't reach. Now everyone that comes in our house and spends more than 2 minutes looking at our fireplace asks us either "what happened here?" or "so, when are they coming to finish it?" I'm happy to provide photos, documented communication, and further details to anyone that wishes to contact me about these guys and thinks I might be too harsh. I had an incident where someone was buying my house and the chimney company came out and did an inspection and spotted a crack in my chimney, their only option was to rebuild it. I had just had another chimney company come out and repair the chimney a few years back. I was so confused that there was work needed. Greg Butler was refereed to me as a professional inspector for a third opinion. Greg spent a long time at my home with my realtor, going over the inspection with the video scan. He found that it was broken and showed us the codes and gave me options on how to rebuild this. I was pleased to know that I did not have to spend a tremendous amount of money to get the work done.
