We have had our Rais fireplace for 6 years and after the first year it started giving us trouble. It wouldnt turn on and gave the 04 error message on our remote. We called the shop we bought the unit from over the years and different technicians came and went who got the unit going for a few weeks, but then it would fitz and no one was able to figure out why. We finally gave up on the fireplace shop, after they wanted to charge over a thousand dollars for a third replacement of the maxitrol receiver because of inflation (so the fireplace has had 4 total receivers over 6 years). But like previous times, it fitzed within days, and we got a refund on the unit. We finally gave up on the shop and decided to call Fiddler on the Roof, and we were told Enrique is their technician for the maxitrol systems. The fact they even had a specific technician familiar with the system was a big win. When we met Enrique, our first impression was, "oh so this is what a real fireplace technician is like!" Enrique nerds out on fireplaces the way other guys nerd out on cars. Enrique took apart our fireplace, got in there with a voltmeter, and seemed to identify the issue. Sadly, fireplace fitzed again. I called Enrique, and it was a big relief for me when instead of being defensive (like the fireplace shop) he was genuinely curious and came back without charging and went through the fireplace components again... and realized the "new" maxitrol unit we had bought from the fireplace shop was manufactured in 2016 and actually looked a little scuffed. He replaced it with a 2024 unit he happened to have on hand and im so happy to report our fireplace has been working every day as expected. The cost for the site visit may seem a little higher compared to other fireplace shops, but it makes sense because Enrique is a true diagnostician for fireplaces; he spends the time it takes to understand and fix the problem. I used Fiddler last year to clean chimneys, which they did and they recommended some minor fixes which I passed on. I used them again a few months ago to clean same chimney and this year technician recommended similar minor repairs + additional cleaning for excessive soot in flue. However, when I received estimate following day it was to replace entire fireplace and flue for $20k! When I called Gerardo he did not explain change or revise his recommendation. Accordingly, I checked with another chimney service who showed me that there was no excessive soot build up and only repair required was to instal new cap at top of chimney for less than 10% of Fiddlers quote! As a result I used that service, Chimney Check-up, and will never use Fiddler again! read more

I had consulted two other companies, and one didn't come with the materials he needed, then put on what I learned was a flammable adhesive. Nor did he point out obvious problems with the chimney cap on my roof. The other was a fireplace store, and just said a guy would come in and convert my wood burning fireplace to gas logs-- I had no reason to believe he would be taking time to check the roof exhaust. We had the pleasure of working with Enrique to help us install our gas fireplace. We actually had a bought the fireplace at Fireside BBQ and Appliances. We had a very difficult time with this purchase. They hard sold us on the fireplace and explained that they had someone in house that could install the fireplace if we needed. I contacted Fiddler to install a corner fireplace. Due to HOA and code limitations, what should have been an easy job turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. The owner, Russ, was extremely patient with all my needs/wants. He did multiple drawings and helped me look for the perfect fireplace that looks great as well. Lots and lots of emails and phone calls later it was installed and it looks beautiful. Before I contacted Fiddler I started out doing my own research online and the plethora of details is overwhelming. The process was so much easier with an expert doing recommendations and giving advice. I've since moved, and used Fiddler again in my new place. Since I didn't want to repeat the previous exercise with the HOA, I was forced into buying something that looks a little old fashioned. Russ helped me turn it into something more contemporary. Very happy with it! I just searched my mailbox and found 115 emails from Russ (and I had an email meltdown that so that's not even everything.) Kinda embarrassed to have bothered him so much, lol. Not once did he complain though. Thanks Russ. The tech I dealt with the most was Gerson. He is always friendly and professional. Takes lots of pictures and measurements. He is also always careful with my floors and tile etc. Internal communication between Russ and Gerson is great, so it was just so EASY. My one point of contact was Russ, and he was always fully informed. They use texts to confirm appointments and message when they're on their way, which works well. All of the five star reviews for this company surprise me since my experience was not five star. I had Fiddler on the Roof come out to inspect my chimney. I had it lined and cleaned a few years ago (prior to pandemic) and planned to use it this winter. The person who came out proceeded to give me a laundry list of issues with the chimney that needed to be fixed. He even said I'd likely need to have a section of the chimney removed so they could accomplish the other work that needed to be done. I'm no chimney professional but my internal B.S. meter went crazy. The estimate exceeded $5,000. I subsequently had two other companies come over. My B.S. meter was confirmed. Both companies said my chimney was in excellent condition. I had a flu installed and paid a few hundred dollars. I was told the Fiddler field workers are paid via commission; I can't verify that but the estimate I got sure seemed to support that. Bottom line, if you get an estimate that feels really pricey, get a few more estimates from other companies. Caveat emptor with this company. read more

Just an update: The fireplace had a smell to it and (as stated in my review, safety is a HUGE thing for me). We contacted Russ and he came out the very next day to ensure that everything was good with the fireplace. Turns out that it is just "burn off"... a common thing related to the paint within the fireplace. But Russ was quick to come out and make sure that we were happy, safe and satisfied customers! Also, an updated picture ... we got the tile installed around it and the tile guy commented on the quality of work done by Russ' crew (specifically how perfect and smooth the backer board was). From the moment I spoke on the phone with Reyna about my situation, she suggested that there might be a better solution and fix. Raul (who I now call St. Raul), arrived on a Saturday ready to solve my complicated problem. Sure enough at an extremely reasonable price they fixed my chimney. Not only did they fix my chimney but suggested ways to make the fireplace more beautiful. I ended up purchasing a beautiful gas log. Raul and his team painted the interior of my fireplace black. My story does not end there....I asked them for a second opinion about a double fireplace situation at a rental property. A Fiddler on the Roof once again came to the rescue. Raul and his team repaired both fireplaces and even painted the frame of the old glass doors giving them a totally brand new look. I think these honest, hard working, gracious and competent reasonably priced Fire Place Experts deserve a 10....10....10!!!!
