This place is a perfect spot to start the night off with your friends before bar hopping. Drinks are good but the food is hit or miss. I got the nachos and it was truly the most disappointing nachos I've ever had in my entire life. The nachos consisted of a few tortilla chips, few pieces of chicken, lots of fake cheese and large slices of onions throw on there and that's it. It was just overall disappointing. My friend got the burger and it was ready an hour after we ordered it. Once it arrived, both the burger and fries were cold. However, my other friends got the steak chimichanga burrito and the chicken burrito and it was truly amazing. Again, I think it's a great pregame spot but don't have high hopes. read more

My boyfriend and I love going to Chimy's whenever we're in San Marcos, it's become one of our favorite traditions for our anniversary since it was one of our very first date spots. We always come back for the cold drinks, especially the DP Shootouts, which are a must-try. The food is exactly what you'd expect (in a good way!) big portions that are perfect for sharing, like the nachos, and pretty solid Tex-Mex tacos. She was escorted out of the restaurant not because of her behavior, but because of a personal issue one of your employees had with her. This is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I don't visit San Marcos often but needed to come to campus for a test today. I just wanted to eat a snack and maybe have a margarita while studying. Getting to the building Was a little difficult and parking is confusing. I asked the girl inside if I was ok where I parked she said yes but they tow after like 30'min to an hour. I said ok where can I park if it's past that time. She said the street. But I wasn't gonna walk. She said we can just keep an eye on your car. WORST ESTABLISHMENT EVER!! * Customer Service was god awful. I had received my margarita which was ok for $6 but no food for almost an hour. My order was rang in incorrect and when asked to be replaced it was an issue about running out of queso for my nachos. I then asked to be substituted for something else and the manager told me no. I would not receive a refund or any food that night. I was utterly upset because you charge my card immediately but you cannot give me what I paid for. * Cleanliness is horrible in there bc no is wiping the tables, picking up trash or drinks. You just have to clean up yourself even though you ask one of the two servers walking around for a busser to be called. Chairs are sticky and on their last leg. No space at all since it's normally crowded I assume by my college peers. * Staff is okay. You have some who are polite, attentive and then others who rush and don't speak at all. The lady who wears a bow in her hair was entirely so rude to us for no reason. Every-time we ordered a drink, she would check our ID's to "make sure" and nothing would change on our ID to check after every single drink. I can't say enough great things about this place. We've visited before and enjoyed it, but this past weekend was the best experience we've had there so far. We are used to the Lubbock and Fort Worth locations but the service this weekend really put this one at the top. Service was fantastic and kind (from the help at the bar to the manager to the waitstaff). Everyone seemed to enjoy working there and it showed! Even when my kid spilled a drink, they didn't seem annoyed but were instead helpful. Alex the manager was great too. I needed to give him a personal shout out for being so kind to me and my family. We came in on a Saturday and enjoyed it so much we came back for another round on Sunday! We had the fish tacos (grilled and fried), beef fajita nachos, burger, and the chips and queso. Maybe I'm biased but I have, and always will be, in love with the San Marcos Chimy's . They have amazing drink specials every day and are one of the places on the square where 1 margarita has me feeling GREAT! Hahaha. ( but really ... so much tequila.) I'm also a huge fan of their nachos. They come on a giant almost trash-can-like lid and you can fill them up with toppings at their topping bar free or charge . I definitely recommend this place for drinking more then eating , but if your doing both this is the place to do it !!! read more

Our group all ordered separately up front and only 2 out of 10 had their correct order. This place is a joke. Bartender was nice and efficient, she placed our order and served us our drinks at the same time. That's the only time we had an amazing experience. The micheladas were amazing! I got the steak fajita nachos and it was disgusting (I am not kidding). The meat and cheese tasted old. Looks like they used shredded cheese and had them microwaved and then put it on my plate. Don't, just don't. Saying the kitchen is a "little behind" means it will be over an hour to get sub par food at best. The cheese is cheap and oily. Food comes out lukewarm. If you are under 25 and looking for a loud party place to meet up and drink up, this might be the place for you. Did you know that you could get a margarita worthy of the Texas Monthly Top 10 right here in San Marcos? I didn't, but thanks to my awesome freelancing gig over at BobcatFans Magazine, I found this fun fact out as part of a story I was assigned which focused on local bars and their signature drinks. On my first stop on the tour, I headed out to Chimy's Cerveceria at at 217 E. Hopkins St., I have to say, I wasn't prepared to be impressed. I was prepared to taste and photograph just another margarita, that was all. I wasn't ready for what was to come. When I got there, I ordered the The Cadillac, one of the six top shelf margaritas they feature, and the one that made its place on to the Texas Monthly list. What it is, as it turns out, is a magical, mouth-watering, refreshing and simply delicious blend of Cazadores Reposado tequila, Cointreau Noir, fresh squeezed lime juice, sweet-and-sour mix and their secret ingredient, a splash of Sprite! Impressed, I was. Man, the sips I took won me over, and I have a new favorite take on the classic margarita. Don't forget to get your glass with a salt rim, and indulge in one of the best drinks in the state! We have been eating here about once or twice a month for about 9 months. The food was delicious at first but the last several times it is slowly going down hill. We had pork tacos and two orders of nachos. The pork tasted like BBQ sauce. Figured I would eat it anyway. I couldn't eat half of it. It was way too spicy. Husband finish it up and we both ate on his order of nachos. Our had just Bean and cheese nachos. Both nachos were cold. Only three other people were eating when we went and it was noon so there should not be a reason for cold food. The food has made us all a little rumbly in the tummy. National Margarita Day at Chimy's Cerveceria (my favorite margaritas in San Marcos)? that is exactly what happened. Their happy hour deals are solid and every time I go in between 4-7, I want to order their $.99 tacos but always end up getting the nachos. Onto the food, for $7 you get an insane, seriously enormous amount of bean/cheese nachos w/ your choice of meat (steak is my preference). The salsa bar is my favorite part of the place because it's like a build your own nacho bar. I was heavy handed on the corn/balck bean salsa and wasn't mad at it because it gave life to my otherwise bland plate of nachos. Their salsas are just "OK" but you'll need some to add flavor to your food. Overall, I'd go back because its fast, easy and good for groups of people but its not the kind of food you want to eat over & over again. I love Chimys but recently when I've gone for lunch I get the crispy chicken tacos and the chicken comes out cold and within, I swear like 2 mins. Which is great and suspicious all at once. But cold. They used to grill the chicken upon ordering and those were BOMB. I won't be going back for lunch bc of the cold taco ( which has happened twice now). Right off the square in San Marcos. Quesadillas excellent. Lots of meat. Wife had two tacos and there too, they weren't shy about adding some protein! Good flavors to all our food. Salsa flavorful and not too hot. Didn't realize the fish tacos were a specialty or we would have tried them, they looked awesome at a neighboring table. No free chips so don't forget to add them to your order like we forgot! It is a bar atmosphere and the music was way too loud. 4.5 stars if available but I do like to converse in normal tones when dining. Friends and I were looking for a relatively cheap place to eat after our first day of school at Texas State University, we choose Chimy's Cerveceria. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it seemed like a hybrid of a bar and restaurant. This isn't where you want to take somebody on a romantic date: it's WAY TOO loud, not really meant for comfort type of seating, and dimly lit. It's more of a sit down, eat, and drink beer kind of place. I also saw margaritas being served, but I don't know the extent of their alcohol menu since I ordered none. The menu is posted right about the cash register, so you order and wait for your name to be called out. I ordered a Chimy Burger with a jalapeño bun & cheese, I was expecting to be crap quite honestly, but it was SUPER GOOD! I couldn't taste the jalapeño in the jalapeño bun, but it did have an interesting sweet taste and texture to it and I liked that. The fries were nice and crunchy in the form of waffle fries. Portions are meant to please! My friends ordered chips & queso with their meals, we soon found out that one order of chips would easily keep four people entertained! The best part is they come around and offer to replenish your chip supply. The queso is somewhat more runny than the thick consistency I'm used to seeing, but tasted alright. While it's not the fanciest of places, I do see myself coming back for their burgers! read more
