Very good food for a reasonable price. Lunch specials are a great deal. Added bonus, they don't use MSG. Delivery is always quick.

While not my favorite in this area, the China Cafe is consistently good in my experience. There is no weakness, though I do not recall any standout items. The portions are generous which is good on its own. read more

Went here last minute on a holiday with my boyfriend. I got shrimp fried rice, which I thought was very greasy and somewhat average, until I crunched down on something that I originally thought was an animal tooth... in SHRIMP FRIED RICE. Upon closer inspection, it appeared to be a toe nail of an animal, almost like a cat or dog, but smaller (maybe a large rat?). Not sure if I'm more disturbed by the tooth or toe nail possibility, but I am thoroughly disgusted and will absolutely never eat there again. read more

In one word, BLAND. I ordered one of the "Chef's Special", Happy Family. The brown sauce tasted as though it was good--until a large amount of water was added to it. The beef, chicken and krab (yes, crab with a "k" since its imitation crab meat) had a mushy consistency to it, yet chewy at times??? My daughter ordered the Three Kingdoms of the Sea. Just happened to be going by this restaurant, so we thought we would try it. Not much to the decor, but it was clean, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. We had schezhuan chicken and sweet and sour shrimp, with white rice. Both were delicious, not too spicy, the order came out in less than 10 minutes. Once a year I return to china cafe, hoping that they have improved. The answer is no! Broccoli with garlic, insipid vegetables with green peppers! No garlic flavor. Crab Rangoon should not be sweet. read more

Very Disappointed! My wife & I have been ordering from here, both eat-in but mostly take-out for about 2 years. Last night was the last time for us. The food is average Chinese, not great not terrible. We keep coming back because of the location. However, it seemed like almost every time, something was wrong. One example: I ordered Mongolian chicken & got beef, which was chewy & had to throw it away. I love Mongolian beef, but learned on a previous time not to order it from here (chewy,had to throw that one out also). Last night was just an accumulation of disappointments. Ordered the Mongolian chicken again, our order totaled over $24. I always order the white rice with this, only to find out when I got home (a 15 min. drive) that it was not included. Therefore I did not have any rice for my meal. I called them up and was offered a 99 cent credit on my next order. That was the end for me. There was not even an apology for there mistake. They even opened the bag to inspect it before handing over to me. When I told the man that I didn't think I would be coming back, I got a flippant response of "that's fine". I used to enjoy this food, but I cannot stand it when a restaurant doesn't value its customers. Two times in a row now we have ordered online for delivery. Both times we called because it took so long and they claim they "never got the order" even though I received confirmation emails with confirmation numbers each time. When I asked what they would do to make it right, the only thing they offered was to put the order in again. OWN UP TO YOUR OWN MISTAKES! Not expecting to see the same calibre of food as Chiantown or China, this is by far one of the couple among the many Chinese restaurants of this type(semi-take out) in the Quad City that has more pleasing taste stir fry ('Chinese'), noticeable enough differentiaion from competition, not simply sweetening the cooking like crazy for the sweet tooth customers, and enough variations in the ingredients in the resulting sauce of each dish. That is, the food stands out somewhat from the regulars and not every dish is cooked in one of the two ways/formulas therefore taste almost the same! read more

Great food, low prices, friendly staff. Delivery or dine-in. Walk in and pick your own table. The benches and I believe tables have been recently refurbished. The rest of the decor is functional but not especially beautiful. There is a TV on the back wall, never watched it to even see what channel it's on. Food is prepared quickly. Great egg rolls. Steamed and fried rice are both excellent. Large servings for decent prices (~7$ for regular, ~9$ for large). Staff is friendly if not English proficient. read more

I went to China Cafe last Sunday for dinner with my boyfriend we are from Chicago and heard good reviews. This was by far the WORST chineese food I have ever eaten. I ordered Sizzling rice soup which is always brought to the table with the rice on the side for the SIZZLE effect instead I was brought some nasty brown broth and the crispy rice was sitting on top of the soup with a cover which would have been fine if it was not supposed to be sizzling and crispy they brought me mashy goopy soggy rice in a brown salty liquid Every Chineese restaurant I have ever been to serves it on the side or they pour it on as they serve it. My boyfriend ordered crispy wontons they brought instead greasy rangoon I guess they didnt understand what wontons were. The entrees we beef and brocolli and shrimp w vegatables tasteless and the sauce had zero flavor the egg rolls were all oil and no flavor. The waitress came over and saw that I had not even touched the meal and that I had removed all the rice from the bowl she asked if I wanted to save it I said NO she did not even question why I was returming a full meal. read more
