Came here around 4pm with my two kids and I have to say so far I think I've finally found the right Chinese restaurant after living here for one year. I had combo#14 and my daughter had combo#3 along with honey walnut shrimp and fried cream cheese wonton. Our dishes came out fresh and huge portions. Will sure come back again. Grabbed lunch here with my husband, the service is great. The drinks they give you are refilled which is sometimes rare at Chinese restaraunts around here (sometimes you're given a can of soda). I ordered beef broccoli and steamed rice, my husband had a giant combo plate and we shared an order of egg rolls. The food is fresh and delicious. If there's just one complaint it would be our table - it was sticky. That really grosses me out. Everything else was marvelous! read more

I'm a bit surprised that this place doesn't have many reviews. I've been here 3 or 4 times, and the food is decent. They give you a large portion size for a reasonable price. It's not top of the notch quality however. The fried rice is kind of dry and is nothing special. It fills you up and is better than DC food at UC Merced, but that's about it. Same goes for the chow mein. If you just want to fill your stomach up with food but not so much with taste, then this place is for you. :] read more

Is the name a typo, or was China Cafe already taken by another business? I'm so confused by it. I agree with other Yelpers. The bathroom and other areas are not very clean, which is a little disconcerting. It's definitely on the divey side. The food is not "authentic" Chinese, it's just your standard American Chinese take-out fare. Portions are huge. I'm normally not a fan of any of the flavored chickens: lemon/orange/strawberry/pineapple, but my friend ordered the orange chicken, and I thought it was pretty good. The fried wontons are interesting, a little different than what I'm used to. Their filling is more sweet than savory, tastes more like cheesecake and would probably make a good dessert. Overall, service was good. Quick, friendly, and polite. read more

Ah China Caff. I come here fairly often whenever I'm craving Chinese food, because they give you a lot of food. Fair warning though: the food is fairly oily, and it's one of those types of places where if you go more than 2 times a week you will most likely get sick of it. The combo plates are obviously the best deal, and they taste pretty decent for the little money you spend. The combo plates to-go seem to have MORE food in the to-go containers, and this has fed me for lunch and dinner before. I recommend replacing the fried rice in any combo dish for chow mein, as the fried rice is pretty dry and the chow mein is standard chow mein. The choice is yours, but really why eat dry rice when you can eat pretty decent chow mein? The owners, and waiter/waitress are all really nice and the music gives the place a nice feel. I also like the amount of space China Caff has, it's quite spacious compared to other restaurants I have eaten at. This place is a huge step up from Panda Express, so please eat here instead of Panda, not only is it cheaper but it's at least a little bit closer to Chinese food. I noticed that if you order separate dishes, and plain rice or anything else that's not a combo the food quality seems to improve... The only problem is so does the price, so for most (myself included) this happens extremely rarely. Also the Walnut Shrimp is REALLY worth your money, it comes with a bunch and I'm pretty sure you will get sick of eating shrimp before you finish it all. read more

Cream cheese wonton were freezer burned, filled with a pea-sized bit of gelatin, and very rubbery. The shrimp and chow mien were just okay. This place is really good. Menu is a little hard to decide if one person out of four wants their own dinner and the other three will order several plates to divide for the other three but I guess we will get the hang of it next time. Hot and sour soup, lemon chicken, chow mein, rice and two seafood dishes were great. I didn't care for chicken cashew but we gave it to the dogs and they liked it. Girl waitress was so nice and bent over backwards to make sure we had everything. Tea pots were too small. Really tasty food and place was very pleasant to eat at. My husband ate so fast as it someone was going to take it away from him so if he at like that it was great. He isn't a big fan of this type of food but he gobbled it down. We will be back. I don't know why all these people are saying how amazing this place is. I feel super lied to. I went on Nov 24th around noon with my boyfriend and two siblings. They all got the lunch special and I got a combination plate with the green bean chicken. They ordered orange chicken, sesame chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. First off, the chow mein and fried rice were really bland, with no real flavor. It just seems like filler, more than usual. I tried a few bites of each persons plate, and I have to say it wasn't just my food that didn't make the cut. The best out of the four was the orange chicken, but even panda express tastes better than this place. The customer service was terrible. Of course they can barely speak any English. I asked if I could remove the veggies from the chow mein and she told me it would be a dollar extra. They wanted me to PAY to REMOVE it. Which just shows the chow mein isn't made to order, they cook it up in the morning and microwave it or something. Again, I have no idea why there are so many good reviews for this place. I went to China Caff because I read these reviews about how great it was. I feel lied too. It wasn't just one bad meal, there was 4 different meals that tasted bleh. Maybe I came in with too high of expectations, but it was terrible. I'm usually not one to complain, but this was a really bad experience. The worst part is that my waitress was SO sweet that I felt too guilty to say anything. The flavors were all honestly all very good, but the meat was prepared so poorly that I couldn't eat any of my food. The pork tasted awful and was an even worse consistency, the chicken was overcooked on the outside and had fat in every bite, the beef was gummy, and the fried prawns were 90% batter, and the prawn itself tasted undercooked. The only thing I finished was my fried rice, which was just really dry. BUT! the szechuan broccoli was DELICIOUS. Probably because there was no meat in the dish, and was all the good flavor. To be honest: they do not even deserve a star. This was by far the worst food I have ever encountered in my life. To begin: When my food came out, it literally smelled like sewage water. I tried a couple bites, and there was almost no texture and definitely NO flavor. I didn't even try the chicken on my plate because I could tell it was under cooked. My boyfriend's appetite was almost completely ruined just by the smell of my food. He was completely dissatisfied with his as well. He will eat almost anything. He could NOT eat his food. Then when we tried to send the food back, they tried to force us to keep eating it. They insisted that we just "don't like Chinese food". We both LOVE Chinese food. This place was just terrible. They also wanted to charge us for the food that we didn't eat. I took one bite of Chow Mein, and one bite of Rice. My boyfriend has one bite of chicken, and one of chow mein and rice. I have never encountered a restaurant that wants you to PAY for something that you didn't eat. I think the worst part was their children. They had two children running about the restaurant. The little boy was screaming the entire time we were there. I have a horrible headache now. Oh, and my boyfriend is feeling very sick. In Summary: The food and staff were both terrible. To start things off, my table had an egg flower soup. This soup was actually rather good. It did not seem as if it was heavily made with msg. The flavour did not overwhelm me in saltiness. That's a good start! For my main dish, I had the No. 1 combination plate which was garlic chicken, fried rice, and chicken chow mein. It was really cheap for the large portion served. However, you pay for what you get. The quality of the noodles was a bit mediocre. The fried rice seemed to have no flavour so I added my soup to it, which instantly solved that problem. The garlic chicken was pretty wonderful. This combination plate overall was still enjoyable. You really can't argue with how much food you're getting. Now... one thing I felt that could be improved, it was cleanliness, the table was really sticky even before my party had arrived. It'd be awesome if the table could be cleaned a bit better and not be terrifyingly sticky. The restroom was a typical sort of Chinatown-ish restroom. Not exactly clean... Not exactly spacious... Not exactly the best smelling... But that's forgivable in my opinion because it just seems to come with the small Chinese restaurant dining experience... It'd be great of it were cleaner, but for the most part it is what it is. The people working at the restaurant are really nice. This is definitely a good place to go and try out. Although I have yet to try everything on the menu, so far my faves were the garlic chicken and the orange chicken; I am not a big fan of the chicken in foil, which are small, boneless chicken thigh pieces wrapped in foil ; it tasted very bland, in my opinion. I have ordered for take-out, and the portions are very large, and can easily feed 2-3 people. Prices are affordable, which I liked a lot. The service is prompt, and the restaurant is small and quiet . Food is very greasy (of course), but isn't that what makes Chinese food good? Besides, if you eat it only once in a while, then I see no problem with this. I prefer these types of little locally-owned restaurants over franchises like Panda Express! The food was very bland. Ate take out with 7 people. We all agreed the food was average at best. King pou Chicken barely had and flavor, a thought when place order they asked normal or more spicy. So I guessing normal spicy would actually cool your palate. To add insult to injury it might as well been vegetarian, only a few chunks of dark Chicken. Good place to get cheap Chinese food. Boyfriend and I were both starving and did Rock, Paper, Scissors over whether to have burgers or this place, Boyfriend won. We ordered the orange chicken combo and sweet and sour pork combo. Boyfriend loved his sweet and sour combo, he killed his food in no time, complementing the food the entire time. Not impressed. Sorry guys. No veggies or egg in my "egg fried rice", just plain diluted tasting. Asked for veggie chow mein, received plain chow mein, noodles only. Had them bring me a new dish of "veggie chow mein" which was actually quite good.... Sweet and sour chicken was scary, over fried dark meat. I agree, over battered shrimp appetizer. I will say the service was great, and the staffs' kids mentioned in the other reviews were present also. They were well behaved this time fortunately. Food came really really fast...I would have happily waited longer if that had meant tastier food. I wont be back, but thats because I am an out-of-towner.
