This is some of the best takeout I've had in a while. Portions are decent with pad thai at around $12 bucks. Shrimp lo mein at $9 with combo and lunch specials. Very accommodating of adjusting pork fried rice and pork spring rolls to vegetarian versions. The shrimps were huge in the entree items with plenty of veggies. I haven't been to a place that actually does both lo mein and pad thai well and this place does both things excellently. I'd avoid the broccoli and shrimp -type combos if you want flavor packed, as these seem very light on the sauce and possibly more healthy. The hunan, sesame, etc. are the more traditional American-Chinese style if that's what you're looking for. Excellent quantity and quality of protein. Only disappointment is that they have a nice window view of the lake and there are a lot of boxes covering it. read more

I've been coming here for years as I hike in the area. Food is good with generous portions, served hot and fast even when there is a lengthy line. If you're looking for ambiance you are in the wrong place as half the restaurant is a storage area. They have a paucity of drink selections so you might not find the flavor or type you want. We've been coming up here for over 30 years and we've ordered from here many many times. They have pretty much all the dishes you're looking for and service is usually quick. The inside hasn't changed, it's kind of dumpy looking inside with just a couple of tables but most business is take out. Prices are comparable to other Chinese restaurants. We had nice size portions. The combination plates were good and came with fried rice and egg rolls. The sesame chicken was a little spicy which my family loved. I had shrimp and Chinese vegetables....a very mild flavored dish with 5 large shrimp, which I prefer over the little ones. We also had chicken and broccoli and sweet and sour chicken. I gotta say, when you walk by China City it isn't the most appealing of places but don't be fooled by the odd exterior...the food is delicious and fresh! I usually order the Chicken Chow Mein, an egg roll and sometimes the mixed soup (Won To/Egg Drop). My husband orders the Singapore Street Noodles. Not a typical Chinese menu item but he fell in love with it and always gets it! We also like the boneless spare ribs and Shrimp with Snow Peas. We have always ordered take out but there is a place to dine if you'd like. Not the best atmosphere but I've seen plenty of people sit inside the restaurant. The Adirondacks doesn't have many choices for Chinese food. You can count on China City! read more

Let me start off by saying I don't think I've ever given a place only 1 star. But, this place warranted it. We were vacationing at Lake Placid & needed a quick take-out meal. After walking up & down Main Street, our group opted for Chinese as we were all tired of sandwiches. MISTAKE. Food was awful. We had 6 orders; they all were just bad. Noodles were soggy, like they had been soaking in water or something too long. Meat was rubbery, chewy, & in some dishes, tasted rotten (we didn't eat those). There was woeful lack of seasoning; for example, the dish that we asked for "very spicy" had no more heat than the other dishes. We must have used every sauce packet in the bag to try & save these dishes, but they were beyond help. Oh, and 2 people had the runs about 4 hours after eating. Not cool. The only positive: the price was good & it was ready fast. Literally, that's it. Maybe they just had a REALLY off day. All I know, is I wouldn't recommend this place, based on our experience, to anyone. read more

Do not depend on Door Dash for delivery. My husband was not well so we ordered delivery. We kept getting updates, until the order was pushed out 2 hours. No one from restaurant called even though they knew order was sitting there. I finally called restaurant and they told me they could not get driver and they would remake order if I came and got it. However, once the plates were placed on the table and the customers asked to confirm no nuts before consuming, they gave the customers extremely mixed messages. As a result, the customers did not consume their meal because they were scared of the possibility nuts were present (understandably so, as the allergy would have put a child into anaphylactic shock). Then, when asking the restaurant for a refund of the one dish, they gave me an EXTREMELY difficult time and wound up giving me what they called a "donation" (an amount of money of their choice) not the price of the dish that was ordered. read more

after being traumatized by hunan oshaka, i decided to take the extra walk to try this little place. the food here is excellent. reminds me of the great yummy chinese take out places i would go to when i lived in new york. i had the singapore noodles twice, they were excellent. it was loaded with shrimp, chicken, and bbq pork. on another day, i had the general tso's chicken. again, very good. not gristly at all. the egg rolls were wonderful. very reminiscent of new york city. on another day, i had the shanghai chicken which was tasty as well, chicken, bamboo shoots, snow peas, and shitake mushrooms in a spicy sauce. very well executed, as my ger-ger would say. service was good enough. this is a great place to get something different in lake placid. prices are as good as it gets. thank goodness this place exists in an otherwise culinarily-defunct town. read more
