Stopped here when desperate for lunch Thanksgiving Day while on our way down to the ferry to Vermont. Beggars can't be choosers, and so we weren't expecting much from this off-the-main-road-side pub and restaurant. We had called ahead to make sure they were open, and were told they were serving their special Thanksgiving buffet dinner. When I was going to hang up telling the nice lady that we really only wanted a sandwich or burger (our Thanksgiving dinner was coming later), she checked to see that we could order off the regular menu. So on we came, happy for whatever we could get. We were very pleasantly surprised by our two burgers - hand made patties of juicy well-charred beef, nice sharp cheddar and accompanied by very good hand cut french fries (not at all greasy, and not a huge plateful of them either.) The staff appears to be all family - and you get treated like family too. They are adding on a larger room off to the side, so perhaps they are moving to situate themselves more as a restaurant and less as a bar. Either way, we were very happy to discover them and will be making them our new lunch stop for our now-traditional Thanksgiving run up to Stowe. read more

We had arranged to have the funeral reception here for my Mom because it was their favorite place to eat a long time ago. Also because there was plenty of room for our party. Steve was very accommodating to make sure we had what we needed for the guests and extra tables to display memorabilia. The pizza and wings were cooked to perfection! Food was excellent, service attentive and delightful location. Wife had gorgonzola pear and salmon with shrimp pasta. Both were memorable. Cousin had beef nachos and commented he ran out chips before the toppings. Clam chowder was good. Oil wasn't quite hot enough so the calamari didn't puff up much. My blue cheese and bacon burger was top tier. Would recomnend. read more

What a great surprise and what a great menu, one of a kind in the ADK! We had no idea this gem existed and only 10-15 minutes from Westport. Authentic Spanish food, great seafood, Portuguese food too, plus burgers, sandwiches, pasta and some nice apps. Full bar too. We booked a room through Booking. Com at the Halfway House. I called to confirm right after receiving a email from Booking.Com saying we had a room. The owner assured me the booking had gone through. We showed up on the day we were registered for and the owner said no- we didn't have a room booked. He blamed Booking. Com and said he had sent an email but we never got one. He offered no ideas of someone else who took overflows. Locally we weren't stranded- we could turn around and drive home. I was very disappointed. read more

Reuben and burgers great. Really a pleasant surprise driving home from Montreal. Very close to highway 87. They have free jute box, pool table, darts,etc. Decent drink selection. Family run business- great service. We were traveling in the winter with our dog. They allow pets in the dog restaurant/ how nice when it's so cold. We stopped here for lunch on the way to Vermont. I was very excited to find this place, easy on and off to Route 87, great food, great atmosphere and great people. I actually left my favorite shirt there and after realizing it a week later, I called - not only did they still have it but they took the time to ship in back to me in NJ. Visited this "restaurant" with 2 friends on the way back home from Montreal. The staff was friendly and welcoming, but the positives ended there unfortunately. First, the service is SLOW! The restaurant was completely empty when we were seated, but it took a good 30 minutes before we were served bread, then another 25 minutes for our salads, and over 30 minutes later our entrees came out. The food was not worth the wait. Salmon burnt to a crisp and not edible with Uncle Ben's rice. Chicken parm with burnt cheese and tasteless pasta. "Stuffed" shrimp that was gray and with slop unceremoniously thrown across the plate. Add in the obligatory mix ups with sides and you have a failed dining experience. We prayed for the remained of the car ride that none of us got sick and thankfully I don't have any illnesses to report. That's worthy of 1 star. I really hope they step up their game as the staff seems like they care about the place. Maybe since there's not much else to eat around here, serving barely edible food at a snail's pace flies with the locals? read more

The owner Steve is a very pleasant and knowledgeable fellow. He is very accommodating and cares about his guests. Food is stellar and home cooked so be prepared to wait, but if you don't want to wait, get what you pay for at fast food restaurant or substandard restaurant that cuts corners. The soups are to die for especially the split pea. Rates on the rooms are quite decent for what you get. He poured alot of money into these rooms, the beds are extremely comfy and all is clean with a nice view. If you like to take a bath, can't beat the oversized tub. Will definitely be back again. Nice place to stop in you are wanting to visit Lake Placid but don't want to be a part of the so called rat race there now. read more

Been there 3 times. First time ok. Second time not so good. Apps came out with dinner. Third time sandwich ok, service not. Bartender didn't speak English good, couldn't understand her, she didn't know how to make a rum and coke. Got bread after we got our meal. Customers at bar waited a good ten minutes to get served. Amazing surprise on a late drive back from Ausable Chasm. The food and service were impeccable - we'll be returning soon. I strongly recommend you stop in as well. Exit 31 from the north or Exit 30 from the south, just follow U.S. 9 and you'll find it on the East side of 9. FRESH food and good people make this a winner. I had the Costa Rican Sauté with rice and carrots , and the seafood was better than anywhere I ever ate in Florida. Our family can also strongly recommend the burgers, honey glazed chicken, and the fresh fish special with mango-ginger tapenade. Sooooooo delicious, I don't mean to oversell it, but the staff and owners were wonderful too. A great experience in the North Country. read more

I came here while in the Dacks camping 2x and had decent meals here. the last time I had the hot open turkey with cheese and it was good. I like the atmosphere and the owner Steve is friendly guy who cares about his place..the locals like to hang there and have their beer and food the place is upbeat I would eat there again. I really want to like this place, really. The place is great. Decent dining with mountain views. Good size bar and bar area. Great FREE game room with pool, foosball and table-top shuffleboard . But for 3 years the service SUCKS. You have to beg for a beer. The waitress leaves you hanging for 45 minutes after that and when she finally shows, she doesnt care about the situation. If you hate your job, it shows. I think she may be affiliated with the owner not sure. But it is too bad. The place could be a gem. Food is average, not exceptional. We went here yesterday with a large group. Most got summer salads with some kind of meat - chicken, shrimp or scallops. A couple got sandwiches. Everything was excellent - service, food, atmosphere - but I only give them 4 stars because the salads were too small for a meal. They included delicious, homemade bread and the sandwiches were plenty big - we actually ended up sharing them. But be warned about the salads - bery good, but over-priced and not enough for a meal. read more

Order dinner from here fairly regularly and the food is good if you can get them to make what you want. The order is almost always the same and still they struggle to get it right. God forbid you call to bring errors to their attention because no matter what it's always your fault not the attitude to have to draw in local business. Oh dear. We went here after reading J.d.k's review on 7/13/14. Figured since it was a rave, and recent, we'd be ok. Sadly, we were waaaay too trusting. I got the same dish J.d.k got and it was the exact opposite. Shrimp was overdone, 1/2 of the fish fillet underdone, rest of the dish tasted like an all you can eat buffet. The service was attentive and they did bring out two small appetizers which was a good thing since it took ONE HOUR from the time we sat down until our meals reached the table. It looks like it is a popular bar scene though if that interests you. Stay away. read more

Our party of four recently had a wonderful lunch here. The menu is astonishing. We kept asking ourselves, where else in the North Country could you get escargot? They were delicious. The service was excellent (the bar appeared to be well occupied but there was no one else in the dining room where we ate). We were on a motorcycle ride from Lake Champlain Upstate Vermont to Lake George via Route 9. We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant halfway down Route 9.
