It was definitely locally owned, a Chinese couple was running it, the wife in the FOH and the husband was cooking in the BOH. My friend and I have been trying to find a good Chinese restaurant in the area and we stumbled upon this establishment. I'll say this is by far the best one we have come across in the Tower Grove/South City area. I was happy that the rice was brown. However, I wish that the shrimp and veggies were cooked a little bit longer and that they had green onions (my friend asked the cashier lady and she said no green onions but they had green peppers). As somewhat of a General Tso's connoisseur, I was shocked to taste my meal. I immediately assumed I had accidentally been given a different dish, but it was labeled GTC (which context clues lead me to believe was my order). It tasted nothing like the GT of other dining establishments. It was mediocre, hot, a good quantity, but not what i was expecting. The fried rice was really really really good. Gold star. The crab rangoon was cold and the flavor was lacking. My coworkers all had different meals and felt similarly, the real kicker, was the 5 of us had a bill of 72 dollars. On the recommendation of other yelpers, I decide to try out China Dish. 1 downside, I live in CWE, literally less than 10 minutes from them, but they said they didn't deliver, oh well, had to get off the couch. But, was it worth it. Hot braised shrimp, chicken wings, duck fried rice. OMG. Yes. The duck was juicy, not greasy and flavorful. Okay, so I'm generally not a huge fan of Chinese food, but I wanted a change of pace and this place has always intrigued me since it's technically in the hill. first: this place is speedy. second: I am incredibly confused by the person that said they don't get enough food for each order... I attached a picture of my HALF order of chicken fried rice. Massive (and it was a half order!) third: it was pretty yummy and there was a decent amount of chicken in it (sometimes they skimp and you wind up with 85% rice fourth: I completely agree about the crab rangoons... I'm sad to give a one star rating, but I am not a fan. I've had their food twice now. I won't be ordering again. I've ordered delivery both times, and each time took about 30 minutes. I usually eat a late lunch at about 1:30 or 2 pm. So 30 minutes for a spot a mile away seems a bit long for that time of day. The Cashew Chicken was extremely salty, as noted in a couple other reviews. I'm not sure if it's just this dish - but after one bite I was ready to throw it out. The Fried Rice was extremely dark and very salty - and the egg in it was also over cooked. I subbed Rangoon for soup. The menu said I could do that, and I'd get 3 of them. However, only 2 showed up in my lunch combo special. Doesn't matter really - the Crab Rangoon was savory (not at all sweet) with little crab. So it tasted like fried dough and warm cream cheese, which wasn't really appealing. The fresh steamed veggies with white rice was fine. So as long as they don't add sauce or season your dish you might be okay. read more

You know finding good Chinese in St. Louis is near impossible, but finding good Chinese that is good and also delivers is almost unheard of! That's why when I saw the reviews and the chance that China Dish would deliver to me I had to try them out. Yes, there is a huge language barrier when ordering, but if you are patient and know this ahead of time they are worth having to spell out every single instruction So once we established that delivery was available I ordered a half portion of Mongolian Beef, a half order of Chicken Fried Rice, an order of pork stickers, and a wonton soup. (I posted a picture of half of all of this) Honestly I was concerned they would have issues finding our house since they didn't ask for a phone number or give me a delivery time estimate, but sure enough within 30 mins I had an extremely friendly guy at my front door. Everything I ordered was in my bag, and they even threw in a complimentary Vess (even better since it was peach!). The pot sticker was doughy but tasty, and the Mongolian beef and chicken fried rice were MUCH better than anything I've gotten from the closer option=Park Chop Suey, yuck. My only complaint is why I cannot seem to find a less greasy fried rice anywhere in this town. The portions are truly as large as others say, and easily split my meal with my dad. So if u are dying for Chinese, and happen to live near the Grove neighborhood I suggest skipping the hour long hunt and ordering from China Dish. read more

Because I asked why my total was so much for a couple of soups etc. She said the price of the item I wanted to order and because I changed my mind before I could order something else she said "sorry we can't deliver" and hung up on me. This is our go-to spot for Chinese delivery. It is small. It is fast. It is cheap. And, as other have noted previously, it can be difficult to communicate depending on who answers the phone. But we have never had a bad meal there, and we've been ordering for at least 5 years. Favorite item is the crispy cashew chicken, which is as close as you can get to Springfield style cashew chicken in St. Louis. Hunan and Szechuan chicken are both very good too. My daughter loves the vegetable lo-mein. The hot and sour soup varies from not very hot to ridiculously spicy, but always pretty good. Bonus--every delivery comes with a random Vess soda. Went out on a limb today and tried this place, although I was skeptical because it looks kinda sketchy. It was absolutely awesome. The guy who delivers is awesome- last week I had been waiting a long time for my order to arrive so I went downstairs to see if it was here. It turns out the guy was calling the wrong number and my buzzer doesn't work, so he had been waiting there 15 minutes just knocking. I felt so bad!! But I appreciated that he hadn't left. Great stuff! We are still seeking out a go-to Chinese delivery place and this could be it. I got the crispy cashew chicken and my hubby got the curry chicken. I loved my meal and Greg said he had finally found the curry flavor he's been looking for since we moved here. Delivery was freaky fast, in fact, they arrived 7 minutes ahead of the quoted time - major bonus points! The only thing I took off one star for was that I felt the portions could have been a bit bigger. Went over to a friend's house to watch the Cardinals playoff game and they were regulars of China Dish and wanted to order-in. This is some solid Chinese food. Sampled the Lo Mein, the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the General Tso's Chicken. Really liked the Lo Mein, and the General Tso's was one of the better versions I've had. It wasn't sweet like I've experienced elsewhere, but (bear with me, here) almost somewhat of a Chicken Marsala-type sauce..? I definitely recommend that. We always read reviews before choosing somewhere to eat and the reviews here seem to be a mixed bag. We ordered sweet and sour pork and chicken, beef with broccoli and sesame beef. The total for four dinners plus an egg role, order of crab rangoons and pot stickers was less than $30, plus came with soup, so it's a great value. The sauce was already on the sweet and sour, which we tend to not like as much, but it wasn't bad. The beef with broccoli was pretty good and that's my standard, I figure if the beef with broccoli is mediocre nothing will be fantastic. The sesame beef wasn't what my husband expected, it was more like beef in brown sauce with sesame seeds but he said it wasn't bad. The crab rangoons were mediocre. I've had a lot that were too sweet but I'd prefer that to just a dab in the bottom. I also like ordering beef or chicken sticks which weren't on the menu. The soup wasn't bad either. We will try other places but this wasn't bad and we've certainly had worse! read more

She answered and sounded annoyed (they don't have a website with a menu to look at). She asked me again "is that all?" I said yes and she slammed the phone down and hung up on me. After reading all the 4 star reviews on yelp for this place I was excited to try it since its just down the street. Boy I was way underwhelmed. I ordered this as pick up over the phone, the telephone greeting was a simple "Hello" nothing that indicated that I called the right place. My food was ready in about 8 minutes, so they were definitely fast. My main issue though, was with the food. I ordered the crispy cashew chicken combo, which came with egg drop soup, white rice, and two crab rangoon. The portions were much much smaller than what I am used to getting at a Chinese place. Typically I can get two meals out of a single order, the little soup container I got wasn't even filled the whole way. Their crab rangoon was super disappointing, they were small and filled with very little cream cheese, also just for your info their crab rangoon has a savory filling, not a sweet cream cheese. The cashew chicken was way way too salty, couldn't even taste the flavor in the sauce because of how insanely salty this was, and the cashews had a weird, almost dirty, taste. So, while they are fast, I am definitely not interested in eating from here again, alas my search for the best Chinese food in STL continues. read more
