Hot and spicy chittering
Jay B.

Our family had another wonderful dining experience at this charming Taiwanese restaurant, and I honestly can't understand why it was so quiet on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived around 12:30 PM after our Sunday church service, and the moment we walked in, we were seated right away. The dining room was spotless, far cleaner than what you typically expect from a casual Chinese restaurant, and the ambiance felt warm, calm, and genuinely inviting. Since this is a true Taiwanese spot, we always gravitate toward their signature dishes. The standout for us, as always, was the classic braised pork rice. It's rich, savory, and deeply comforting, one of those bowls that hits every time. We also shared an order of their perfectly seasoned popcorn chicken, which came out hot, crispy, and incredibly flavorful. My wife ordered the beef noodle soup, and it was exactly what she needed on a cold day, steaming broth, tender beef, and noodles cooked just right. Our son went big with the crispy chicken combo, and wow, the portion was generous. It's the kind of plate that could easily satisfy an adult with leftovers to spare. To round things out, we ordered the Three-Cup Mushroom, a Taiwanese classic known for its fragrant mix of soy sauce, sesame oil, and basil. It arrived fresh, aromatic, and absolutely delicious. One thing we consistently appreciate here is the speed. Every dish came out quickly and piping hot, which shows how well the kitchen operates even when the dining room isn't busy. The staff was friendly, efficient, and attentive without hovering. The restaurant's interior is bright, clean, and surprisingly modern. It's the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable settling in for a good meal. Even though it wasn't crowded, the atmosphere still felt lively enough to enjoy. Tai Ke continues to be one of our favorite hidden gems. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful, the service is quick, and the environment is clean and welcoming. We're already looking forward to our next visit, and honestly, more people should be discovering this place. We're definitely coming back.

One of the best places for Asian food if you are looking for flavor. Every dish I've had here tastes amazing. The star is the sizzling beef tenderloin. The sauce is bubbling when the plate arrives. The flavor is delish and the meat is very tender. The fried rice was good, one of the best in terms of flavor and balance. Tried the hot pot and it was good, I liked the regular entrees better. But the hot pot was well organized, great burners, and they refill the soup with water. Service is amazing. Very clean. Plenty of parking in the lot. Highly recommend.

Unseasoned shrimp fried rice. NEVER again.

Not all fried rice is created equal... I've driven past this place countless times and had a craving for some shrimp fried rice. I wasn't sure whether they did carryout, so I called and after they confirmed, went ahead and place my order. Before I continue, let me preface I looked at pics of dishes I'd possibly want to eat, especially the rice, so I'd know what to expect. I went and picked up my food, returned home, and was in utter disbelief at what I was served. Mind you, the dish is supposed to come with peas, carrots, and some garnishment (at least that's what I've seen from the pics). As you can see, mine came with egg, rice, and what appeared to be steamed shrimp instead of fried. On top of there being no garnishment, there was NO seasoning. Not a speck of salt or pepper. It was worse than bland and something not even soy sauce could save. When I placed the order, my only request was no onions, which the person who answered the phone said there weren't any in the dish in the first place. I'm disappointed as I was looking forward to finally trying this place, only to receive unseasoned food. The restaurant looked cool, but if this is how they're selling their carryout dishes, especially fried rice, I can't imagine the other dishes tasing better, or seasoned for that matter. I

We came here for their hot pot. A very different experience since it's a single serve bowl instead of a communal broth for your party. Our server was super attentive and really nice. She made sure the broth was refilled. The meat was tasty, and I'm glad she gave us spice to add to the broth since without it it was a little flavorless without it. The food was tasty overall, and a pretty large portion for one. I would be curious to come again to try their regular menu items. The place seemed to be busy on a Saturday night.

It's been a while. Went there with friends for lunch on a Thursday. Still maintaining the consistency. Food is almost immediately served.

Very friendly service. It was packed when we got there but they quickly accommodated us. They were busy even during an "off-traffic" time. We got several exception dishes, including the steamed bass, short ribs, and 3 cup chicken. We did not do hotpot and opted for family style dishes. Our food came out fast and hot and they kept our rice bowl full. Everything was flavorful. Will be back again the next time I'm in Saint Louis!

Obsessed. So good everytime! I'm vegetarian and had stir fry noodles. Easy parking. Wonderful service and pricing. Full house, but quickly seated and our food came out so fast. Our favorite neighborhood secret!

Ngl was pleasantly surprised with how solid the food here was. I thought most of all we tried was good, but the standouts definitely had to be the popcorn and three cup chicken. The combination of traditional Asian flavors and a ton of aromatic spice made the popcorn chicken super tasty and the sauce, especially, in the three cup chicken was peak comfort food. Favorite dishes: Popcorn chicken, three cup chicken

This restaurant is now where the old Chu Wah restaurant used to be located back in the 1960s and 1970s. It closed many years ago. I came by here to see what replaced Chu Wah's. I went in and tried the food and it was delicious. I recommend it highly.

Excellent food , very friendly and helpful servers and a great ambience . The food was delicious and affordable. I haven't gotten to try Taiwanese food before today and this was an amazing introduction. This place is a gem located in a strip mall in Olivette.

Food is authentically made and tastes wonderful. We ordered four things and everything tastes great. Service was prompt, fast and efficient. Clean place and people started to come in around noon. I will recommend people and I will come back again. Ordered crispy oysters.. they were nicely done. I-need more sauce for three cups chicken... tastes great.

My partner and I were looking for someplace new to try. We got the Bao for an appetizer. SO GOOD. Of course, the bun was so soft, and the pork belly had great taste and texture. The sauce was amazing and the cilantro was the perfect accent. He got the spicy beef, and asked for it spicy. The texture of the beef was amazing and the taste was really good. He ranked the heat at 3 out of 5. I got the Peking Roast Duck Wrap special. The meat was tender and flavorful and it had a lovely sauce in it, as well as some finely chopped vegetables. I wasn't a huge fan of the spinach wrap, expecting something different. The salad on the side was good, the dressing was light delicious. We interacted with 3 employees, and they were all very professional and friendly. Water was brought out right away, and refilled as appropriate. Lovely meal.

Ask the Community - Tai Ke Shabu Shabu

Does Tai Ke serve hotpot for lunch during the work week? I went last year (2021) for lunch hotpot shortly after they re-opened at the new location, but a few months later returned and was told by the manager they were only doing hotpot for dinner.

Sounds like the manager provided you the answer. OR you can pick up your phone and call.

If you look too closely, you will notice that it's not exactly the cleanliest, there's not a lot of attention to detail in the atmosphere and someone is usually smoking downstairs which drifts up into the dining room and is quite unpleasant. I only really notice it when seated at a table that borders on the staircase. My favorites are the shrimp long noodles and they pour a nice sauce over it and cut it with scissors for you, the shrimp and chive fried dumplings that the server brings in the cart that rolls around and makes for you, the salt and pepper shrimp or calamari, the pickled cucumbers, & the duck. We were in for an early lunch Sunday with that spring forward nonsense. And we loved picking things from the steamer cart and others. The flavors are awesome as are the textures. I find the carts are great for meeting hunger where it is -- quick and can order as you eat rather than order all up front. Going with a bigger group is lots of fun for all the things you can try but even with just two of us a range of small plates really hits the spot. The cart folks check in often til you say no more for a while but appreciate that the owner also checks in.

A Great Hole-in-the-Wall Korean Spot…read more I was really in the mood for Korean food, and as Korean culture has become more mainstream, I've noticed that some Korean restaurants have started to feel a bit commercialized. As someone who cooks Korean food myself and spent time living in Korea, sometimes you just want a simple, authentic, no-frills spot that focuses on the food. Thankfully, Asian Kitchen Korean Cuisine, located at 8423 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, MO, delivered exactly that. I knew I was probably in the right place as soon as I walked in and was greeted by one of the owners, whose direct and no-nonsense personality reminded me of many family-run restaurants I've visited over the years. It gave the place a lot of character. I kept my order simple and went with the beef bulgogi, while my sister ordered the chicken bulgogi. Both came with rice and kimchi. We also shared an order of vegetable potstickers, which were fried perfectly. Everything was delicious. The food had a homemade quality that felt comforting and authentic. The bulgogi was flavorful, the kimchi was satisfying, and the potstickers were easily one of the highlights of the meal. We ordered everything to go, so unfortunately I didn't get any photos, but the food definitely spoke for itself. One thing to keep in mind is that there may be a bit of a wait, but that's because the food is prepared fresh. If you're willing to be patient, it's well worth it. Overall, if you're looking for solid Korean food in the St. Louis area and don't mind a straightforward, family-run atmosphere, Asian Kitchen is a great choice. 4 out of 5 stars.

I was going to get omurice, but it's no longer on the menu so they need to either put it back on the menu or take the photo of that dish down near the entrance. Also, it was very warm and a little humid inside.
