We have been coming to China Garden for about two years. At first, we loved it but the last two times the food was not good. We decided to try one last time last night and it was definitely the last. I went to go pick up the food and the girl at the desk was too busy on her phone to look up to acknowledge me. Several people in the kitchen saw me and said nothing to her or came out. There was an open trash can to the side of the counter with the lid open which had flies around it. As far as the food, it was again not good. My husband said his general tso's chicken had no flavor and the rice was dry and had a strange taste to it. The wontons in my soup had a very bad aftertaste and I ended up throwing it away. The soup always seems to make it through unscathed, but the ribs, although large, were tough and for the first time ever, were lukewarm and the chow mien simply one note. Service is always quick but often times the sauce packets are forgotten as are chop sticks or utensils. A nice, bright, and clean spot for some delicious Chinese food take-out right in the center of Branford. You'll find the typical dishes found on most Chinese food menus; however, the quality of food is great. I ordered through their website which lists all the menu items, most of which have pictures attached. It is very user friendly, making it easy to navigate, order, and pay all online. The wait time was reasonable and the worker behind the counter was friendly. I ordered the shrimp with mixed vegetable combination which was served with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The portion was generous, and the food tasted fresh and flavorful. The egg roll had a crispy consistency and not oily. This is a small storefront operation located right in the Branford Green. The menu has the standard offerings: beef, poultry, seafood, veggie versions of the usual plates. Personally, I am fond of their version of Singapore noodles (chow mei fun, 'curry' spice and shrimp, pork, chicken etc.). Egg foo young is nice too, as is the Hunan Beef. Ordered several different dishes for my family. The fried rice was basically white rice with a couple of pieces of meat thrown in which I paid extra for-nothing else to distinguish it from plain rice though. Chinese food is a rare treat for me. I'm glad I waited for this chilly, cloudy day. I was not disappointed. I ordered a meal which consisted of fried rice, three crab ragoons, spare ribs and 3 or 4 pieces of fried chicken wings. I stopped at by this location and it was very clean opened up about a year ago. The food was delicious what I like most about it. It tasty without all the salt especially because I am salt sensitive. The business model here seems to be minimum quality, maximum profit, as the food was pretty much inedible. The soup was too salty. Improperly fried egg rolls were soaked in oil and were still cold inside. The lo mein noodles had no flavor. At all. The overcooked noodles were limp and soggy. There was very little sauce on them and what there was, was extremely bland. All we could taste were the watery noodles. We had to pull out every Asian condiment we had in the house just to give it some flavor to make it edible. It was very disappointing. The store itself has a good setup. Placing an online order was easy, but useless as they didn't prepare the food until I got there to pickup so what was the point? I may try this place another time to see if it was just an off night, but IMO they really need to step up their game if they really want to succeed. Branford's palates are more sophisticated than this place gives credit for. read more

I am a very picky eater. Especially when it comes to meat. But I have to say, since the first time I have had the General TSO w/ broccoli and Vegetable fried rice, and the most amazing spring rolls, I have been addicted. Everything I have had since then, especially meat items, ( I am extremely picky), but their meat is clean, scrumptious, nothing chewy..lol. And their spring rolls are the best!! The people and service, and time wise are also kind and quick, even on the weekends! And they always get the order right!! I can't say enough! So if your picky, especially when it comes to meat, like I am, rip open a piece of chicken and see the white shreds, and taste the freshness, and tenderness. I am a customer forever! Very covid cognizant. Very fast. To the point that I don't know how much is pre packaged. I went there for the first time last night and our food, which was all very good, was ready in 10 minutes. Steamed dumplings were excellent. I tried something I was unfamiliar with- Malawi chicken. Just the right amount of fire. My partner got egg foo young-- not an adventurous eater. He said it was good. We tried this new restaurant tonight for the first time. It is right on Main Street across from the Green. I called our order in and it was ready in 15 mins. They've done some very creative workarounds for the pandemic and the small shop was clean and felt safe. We got egg rolls, orange chicken, egg foo young, lo mein, and shrimp fried rice. The food was hot and good - we esp liked the orange chicken, lo mein and egg foo young. The fried rice would have been better w bits of egg and vegetable stirred in, but was good. We tried this new take-out restaurant in downtown Branford and were very pleased with the quality of the food. We had Chicken and Cashews - excellent, Roast Pork Lo Mein was delicious and Singapore Chow Mei Fun was awesome - spicy, but not overwhelming. The portions(quart size) were so large that we all had enough for another meal, and some. The food was not greasy and it was full of flavor. It was everyone's first time trying this restaurant and it was unanimous that we are all going back again soon. Thank you for a wonderful meal. I had the General Tso lunch special. I thought it was very good. Clean and friendly restaurant for take out only. $9.11 for the lunch specials with tax.
